We are trying to settle things equitably through mediation. One of the sticking points is that I want to stay in the marital house. I feel it will provide more stability for our teen girls than both of us moving into condos or apartments. She is the one who wants the divorce and she makes twice as much money as I do. We had a great interest rate and low mortgage payment until she pushed for a refinance three months before telling me she wants a divorce. this refi allowed her to get a new (Used) car and pay off her debts. It also doubled our mortgage payment which she committed to paying half of. We bought the house in 2012 and I put down the $150000 down payment and have made every mortgage payment since up to the refi. She has stated in mediation that she will not be able to pay half the mortgage if she is going to get an apt/condo. This is in Colorado. I'm wondering if I as a man have any legal legs to stand on in getting her to at least pay as significant portion of the monthly expenses of keeping the house. I should also add that the plan would be to keep the house until the girls have graduated HS about 4-5 years from now then equitably split the proceeds.
