I didn't know that piece, thank you. Then, the adult should have known better in this scenario. I still think the woman is more of a scumbag because she preyed on a child very knowingly, but the man ignored the clear evidence that she was underage so he should be ruled as guilty as well. But the woman should definitely be in prison, that's the bigger issue here.

The adult should have known better in the case of the guy. In the case of the girl, she lied, so the adult couldn't have known better.

What are the actual polices that this article is fighting against? I can't find them
/r/MensRights15/10/14 04:32 PM

There are a fair amount of women who don't want to be associated with feminism
/r/MensRights15/10/14 04:28 PM

Ergh I hate that last one, just instilling more gender roles
/r/MensRights15/01/14 02:29 AM

I lean towards MRA, but still think Egalitarian is more accurate to my approach
/r/MensRights15/01/14 02:27 AM
1

Well I don't identify as a feminist, but I do care about women's issues, so I figure calling myself egalitarian encompasses everything more easily.
/r/MensRights14/01/14 09:54 PM
1

Nah, kinda like how calling yourself a "toast eater" would imply you only care about toast
/r/MensRights14/01/14 08:26 PM
12

Same, I think MRA or Feminist are both labels that would imply I only care about one gender

Funny, I just get really happy and tell my friends how much I love them
/r/MensRights10/12/13 02:00 AM

He didn't say "women need a safe space from men" he said "men and women need safe spaces from each other" (in summary). I still disagree with that idea BUT it's not what you're arguing against.

TRP is hateful to both men and women.
/r/MensRights23/11/13 01:45 AM

Plenty of people here insult /r/SRS. TRP is arguably worse. Fucking hate both of them.

Oh I agree, this video is definitely a step in the right direction though.

I'm glad this judge called her out and didn't let her get away with it!

I personally think that the patriarchy used to exist in the U.S. but doesn't anymore, because there are issues that affect both men and women, and therefore it's not a system that benefits men and harms women. There are patriarchies still in the world though. I'm open to have my opinion changed though.
/r/MensRights03/11/13 06:36 PM

Yeah I've never heard my male friends call a girl a slut as a negative label, but tons of my female friends call other girls sluts as a negative thing out of jealousy.
/r/MensRights11/05/13 11:36 PM
1

No? I'm not sure what you're arguing with. The point isn't that it's not okay to be sexually attracted to someone, just that it's not okay to call a girl a slut because she's showing off her legs.
/r/MensRights11/05/13 11:32 PM
0

You can still find legs attractive, without labeling showing them as indecent or slutty. Okay I totally agree there, that's kind of the point I was trying to make but doing a bad job of :) so you're right here
/r/MensRights11/05/13 04:07 AM
3

Well I was getting the impression that they meant that people sexualizing each other was a bad thing, but looking at it in a different light if girls were actually told in public that they were sluts or something for wearing short clothing then I agree that's ridiculous, but again its not necessarily due to how people naturally experience sexual attraction.
/r/MensRights11/05/13 03:22 AM
3

If anything saying that short shorts are fundamentally indecent or that boys can't control themselves is sex-negative. I completely agree with that, I think we're arguing the same point.
/r/MensRights11/05/13 02:58 AM
3

"TEACH MALE STUDENTS AND TEACHERS NOT TO OVER SEXUALIZE NORMAL FEMALE BODY PARTS"
/r/MensRights11/05/13 02:46 AM
5

Basically - It's okay to sexualize, everyone does it, but its also okay to wear whatever the fuck you want and its not okay to slut-shame.
/r/MensRights11/05/13 02:25 AM
4

Totally agree its not okay to slut-shame someone for wearing certain clothing, I think that saying that women aren't trying to be sexy when wearing certain clothing is just not true, and insulting to some women who want to dress sexily. Men dress well to attract women too, why have a sex-negative attitude about everything?
/r/MensRights11/05/13 01:12 AM
3

The gay men were also given support, am I missing something?
/r/MensRights25/02/13 12:04 AM
0

Well I think it's because to include everyone, it has to be acknowledged that men are losing rights, which other groups of people who feign equality ignore.
/r/MensRights24/01/13 11:42 PM
1

Is there a source for that? If so then it's a whole lot of self-loathing going on in there.
/r/MensRights24/01/13 11:41 PM
1

Exactly, "objectification" is totally okay to them if it's a woman "objectifying" a man. Or they just pretend that women don't think men are attractive. (I don't think that objectification is the right term, I'm just using their term).
/r/MensRights24/01/13 11:39 PM
1

I guarantee that if they do come up with a female version like they said they were going to, THAT'S when people are gonna start to become outraged.
/r/MensRights19/01/13 02:51 AM
1

No problem!
/r/MensRights16/01/13 06:13 PM

I think the fancy word you're looking for is egalitarian
/r/MensRights15/01/13 09:43 PM

I think India does have a patriarchy
/r/MensRights10/01/13 08:05 PM

This entire fucking article is a strawman, she doesn't back up ANY of her claims about MRAs and completely ignores what the movement is really about, which is equality.
/r/MensRights14/12/12 03:35 PM
22

Also both men and women can lose wives, mothers, and daughters in combat as well.
/r/MensRights13/12/12 12:14 AM
9

Make sure you never get mad at women as a whole, it's just as unfair as when feminists generalize all men as evil!
/r/MensRights08/12/12 11:10 PM
1

If I was a woman I would take offense to this as well, it cements the whole idea of men going off to fight for their country while the women stay home. Women can be soldiers too. Of course, it goes without saying that it's insulting to men too.
/r/MensRights07/12/12 11:34 PM

Whatever happened, I'm sorry.

Call the police, she sexually and physically assaulted you repeatedly.

WOW. Wanna talk about victim blaming? Here's a prime example.

/r/MensRights21/10/12 05:16 AM

Okay that's not the point, whatever.
/r/MensRights15/10/12 07:59 PM
2

Which I disagree with on the work one, which was my point.
/r/MensRights15/10/12 07:41 PM
1

Well of course it doesn't necessarily mean its sexist, I just think that particular generalization is. Also I guess my language was unclear, I meant that the average woman is weaker than the average man, but that doesn't mean that all women are too weak to even lift something for themselves.
/r/MensRights15/10/12 07:22 PM
2

Right, but the point that the image is trying to make is that they are only harmful to the men in the situations.
/r/MensRights15/10/12 07:18 PM
2

That's reasonable, I interpreted it differently but it could definitely just be that.
/r/MensRights15/10/12 07:14 PM
-10

On average, yes, but certainly not as a rule. The sexist part is the generalization. I understand the picture's example is heavy lifting, but the caption clearly says "work".
/r/MensRights15/10/12 03:31 AM
-5

It implies that women are always weaker than men and always need a man's assistance. It also says "work" not just heavy lifting, which is even worse. EDIT: for clarity.
/r/MensRights15/10/12 02:58 AM
7

The work one is actually really sexist against women
/r/MensRights15/10/12 02:39 AM
5

This is what I love about /r/MensRights. Differing viewpoints or arguments aren't downvoted to oblivion like in some subreddits (cough /r/feminism cough)
/r/MensRights30/09/12 01:08 AM
7

dude I almost forgot, thanks!
/r/MensRights28/09/12 08:35 PM

I'm not debating that, I'm just saying that I don't think this particular comic is using that particular trope
/r/MensRights24/09/12 06:34 PM
-2

I think it would be, I don't think this comic is trying to comment on gender
/r/MensRights24/09/12 06:00 PM
15

Yeah I was like "no, why are you doing that?"
/r/MensRights18/09/12 01:20 AM
44

Lot of respect for Whoopi, but it pissed me off that he said "A man should never never never (etc.) hit a woman unless it's in self-defense" instead of "A person should never never never (etc.) hit another person unless it's in self-defense". And just everything he said really.
/r/MensRights17/09/12 10:44 PM
2

Let's not generalize!
/r/MensRights09/09/12 05:40 PM
4

Women are put down repeatedly by the religion itself as well. Just saying.
/r/MensRights09/09/12 03:55 AM
1

I agree, even if she was abused by men that's not all she said, so that's not what the response should have been.
/r/MensRights20/08/12 05:21 PM
2

I agree, it's ridiculous that if someone is accused of rape they are automatically assumed to have done it, and the fact that questioning that somehow equals misogyny is ridiculous. Still, the women in the post said she's had men start having sex with her ("dozens of times") while she was asleep, which could be categorized as her having been abused.
/r/MensRights20/08/12 05:07 PM
3

Now hold on, having sex with someone while they are sleeping does seem like rape, or at least sexual abuse, to me. There was no consent given.
/r/MensRights20/08/12 04:22 PM
6

Well I think the any drunken sex is rape is a completely bullshit idea. If a man was drunk and had sex with a sober woman we wouldn't call the woman a rapist would we? I see that issue.
/r/MensRights04/08/12 06:09 PM
2

Do you think I'm a feminist? Because I'm not. Also, the separate ads for men and women instills the idea that only women can be victims and men perpetrators.
/r/MensRights04/08/12 06:08 PM
-1

Yes drinking and driving is a crime, having sex while drunk is irrelevant, and being raped while drunk makes her a victim. I don't see the issue to be honest.
/r/MensRights04/08/12 05:27 PM
-6

Well yes, but the ad specifically talks about rape and not the other dangers. A more appropriate ad would be one aimed towards both men and women telling them to drink responsibly so that nothing bad happens to them. That way, it includes any risks around getting dangerously drunk and doesn't seem like it's blaming one gender.
/r/MensRights04/08/12 05:13 PM
-6

It says that rape is the victims responsibility, whereas even if someone is intoxicated they shouldn't have to worry about being raped.
/r/MensRights04/08/12 04:56 PM
-16

It puts the blame on the victim which isn't an okay thing to do.
/r/MensRights04/08/12 04:11 PM
20

So it looks like she's on the side of "let's actually worry about women's issues instead of stupid shit".
/r/MensRights23/07/12 06:14 PM
2

I wasn't big on the message of the original post, but holy shit. That "Karen!" girl needs serious therapy, she's taking out her anger at the police who didn't take her rape seriously and her rapist at all men. This is not healthy.
/r/MensRights19/07/12 02:03 AM

That's a pretty pessimistic attitude...I have issues trusting people myself, but it's not a great attitude to have.
/r/MensRights17/07/12 12:22 AM

This just feels like encouraging mistrust

I took a look at her Tumblr and saw a lot of ridiculous posts, here are some of my favorites: ANONYMOUS ASKED: i think you are amazing even tho you're white heheh. i do what i can since the majority of my people are really embarrassing and awful We all should thank this girl for her efforts. Thinly veiled racism on the asker's part as well. all right, look, i’m done. cis men are privileged. get over it, cis men. white people are privileged. get over it, white people. straight people are privileg…
/r/MensRights09/07/12 04:37 AM
51

That's not even the real definition of sexism though, I had someone say something similar about racism, it's just made up bullshit that they somehow believe.
/r/MensRights09/07/12 02:07 AM
4

But...no one said women don't have it shitty in some areas. We're just saying that men have it shitty in some areas too.
/r/MensRights03/07/12 02:56 PM
1

Every time I see a post about women doing something shitty to men because they cheated, there is a very negative response, which there should be. However, every time I see the same kind of post about a man doing it to a woman, the guy is supported. I don't understand it.
/r/MensRights03/07/12 02:51 PM

They also called the girls crybabies
/r/MensRights23/06/12 04:49 PM

smells like bullshit
/r/MensRights18/06/12 02:04 AM

A couple people are trying to define these points: don't try. The whole point is that generalizations aren't good.
/r/MensRights17/06/12 01:18 AM

I usually really like Jim Sterling, but this is where he and I completely and utterly disagree
/r/MensRights16/06/12 01:11 AM

Arguing that this makes girls sexist is like arguing that Grand Theft Auto breeds killers
/r/MensRights01/06/12 08:30 PM

"It looks like so much fun though.." What a misandric attitude
/r/MensRights17/04/12 09:42 PM

This is great to see

What if someone chooses to grow a "neckbeard"? Should they be shamed because they don't uphold certain standards of attractiveness? I just realized that
/r/MensRights29/03/12 09:13 PM
2

I feel like this is a strawman fallacy
/r/MensRights23/03/12 01:59 AM

Why do people scoff at any sort of Men's Rights movement? Yes, in general, and more in the past, men have been more priveleged, but that does not mean there are zero discrimination issues.
/r/MensRights21/03/12 01:04 AM

Let's not compare all feminists to SRS
/r/MensRights20/03/12 12:05 AM

This reminded me of when my little brother told me how he got an argument with a girl (I believe he was in 2nd grade at the time) because she said that "It's okay for girls to hit boys, but it's not okay for boys to hit girls". It's amazing how it's so ingrained that even some children have that attitude.
/r/MensRights08/01/12 01:09 AM

I now have another reason to be glad I'm uncut: I can avoid women like her.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
