This will sound harsh, but learn something different ASAP. Automated cars are getting better every day. Trucker won't be a job in 10-15 years at most. All truckers will be unemployed and won't be able to find a job. Get a head start while you still can. https://archive.fo/BT5XO

Yeah, it's quite hilarious. OP: you can defend slavery with this exact line of reasoning, too.

I couldn't agree more. A very large percentage of all posts and comments on the TRP subreddits include very dumb statements. People want everything to be easy, including the way the world works. So they over-generalize, enabling them to have a simple belief-system that covers just about everything. It's easy to have a very mysoginist/racist/backwards belief system overlap with TRP. To really get something out if TRP, one has to become adept at finding the nuggets of wisdom floating in a sea of b…

You can touch on how uncomfortable Germans in general are You sound like you've never been to Germany, or have never even talked to Germans. This doesn't represent the general sentiment whatsoever. Even basic fact checking would clear this up. The only political party that supports your POV hovers around 11-12% of the general population. There was just an opinion poll in which 80% of Germans said that they want the EU to become closer. On the other side, only 22% of Germans believe the US to be …

Soylent is too simplistic: Consensus amongst nutrition experts is that multivitamins are useless. We get more from eating the food that contains a certain amount of a nutrient than we do from taking the same amount im supplemental form. 1600 calories is too little if you ever get out of bed Eating is pleasure, I don't see how anybody can enjoy consuming nothing but this stuff for ages Tl;dr There's no easy way to eat healthy. Read up on the topic and learn how to cook.

You're like the fat chick who goes out with her hot friend, proceeding to get angry because she still doesn't get late. The problem isn't her friend, but that she's fat.

Sounds like he's being a really good friend, and you're too busy being a bitch to realise it. If you distance yourself from him, you'll probably never find a friend as good as him.

Move out. I've been in a similar situation and it was the best thing to do. Felt a lot better afterwards. If you can't reason with him, you can't help him, anyway. Sucks to lose a friend, but what can you do.

You're still committing a logical fallacy. Breathing is obviously a ridiculous example, which is precisely why I chose it. My comment was about the structure of your argument, where 'breathing' fulfills the same role as the examples you gave.
/r/askTRP18/09/16 07:45 PM

Breathing is also considered healthy and safe. That's not a good argument. All the anti porn 'evidence' is sketchy, at best.

The effect of masturbation on testosterone levels is negligible at best, despite what NoFap tells you. You're just horny when you don't come. Your psychology on the other hand can influence your testosterone levels.

Google for voice coaching in your local area, you should be able to find something. I had such a coaching years ago and was very happy with it. There's obviously a limit to how deep your voice can go, but most people don't use theirs correctly and thus speak in a much higher and more annoying pitch than they could. After a few months my coach even asked me whether I wanted to record a demo to send to radio stations – wasn't my career of choice but still amazing what kind of results I was able to…

Good that we're clear on that point. But I think there are still some issues with your view. 1) "An introvert will never receive a chemical reward from the social interaction itself" Yes, introverts do receive this award, it's just much less potent than it is for the extravert. 2) You seem to have the underlying premise that introverts hate social interactions in general. The response is two-fold. First, introverts don't hate the kind of social interaction you're referring to, they can enjoy it …

This is mostly a terminology clarification, but it seems that you're confusing shyness and introversion. One can be a non-shy introvert, shy introvert, non-shy extravert, shy extravert. Talking to strangers is much for difficult for the shy than the non-shy, whether they're introverted or extroverted. I agree with you that it's a good idea for pretty much everyone to get over that – something I haven't accomplished myself yet. But there's no training yourself to be an extravert or "getting over"…

I still don't understand what that point is supposed to be, since I could think of a number of points you could be trying to make. Whatever.

Isn't the definition of overtraining something like "training when you should be resting"? E.g. Wikipedia, "Overtraining is a physical, behavioral, and emotional condition that occurs when the volume and intensity of an individual's exercise exceeds their recovery capacity. "

Work on actually having other options, that's how you get an abundance mentality. Keep improving yourself, the more things you have going the less one chick is actually going to affect you.

I don't need to tell you my life story, it should be enough to say that you're wrong about me and that I don't appreciate you making accusations even though you know exactly nothing about me.

My point is that you can train introverts to engage and enjoy engaging in a normal environment.(as much as normal people do) So introverts are abnormal? Right, they only make up 1/3 to 1/2 of the population and it's largely determined by genetics whether you are one. What does that make gay people in your book? Introverts do enjoy engaging socially, just to a lesser extend than extroverts. They also fatigue much quicker.

You're choosing your world-view over scientific facts, instead of adopting your view to account for the facts. That's exactly what we so frequently accuse feminists of. Your accusations of me are also completely unfounded and happen to be false, too.

If anything, it would be easier for a philosopher to consider a different point of view. More difficulty to blindly adhere to an ideology? Certainly, but I don't think that's something any 'red-piller' would propagate anyway.

Okay, but that makes the US the 9th overweight country in the world, it still remains the most obese.

What are those statistics/when are they from? The US are #1 on every obesity list I could find, and that's not just 2014 but goes back quite a while. Edit: E.g. http://www.oecd.org/els/health-systems/Obesity-Update-2014.pdf

I'm in no way trying to speak for OP, but I think you're slightly misinterpreting what he means. I've talked to quite a few of my friends about it and it seems that attraction works differently for different people. I often think a girl is very hot, but talking to her makes me lose that attraction. I like to calls this a 'derection', a term I've picked up in a slightly different context. But many of my friends don't get such a derection if they find a woman boring in the way I do. For them physi…

I'm an INTP. I've occasionally met interesting women, but they're rare. I've pretty much given up for the moment and just occasionally spin a plate when it doesn't require much effort. I feel like I've endured enough boredom in such conversations and don't see why I shouldn't require similar standards from women that I require from my male friends. And though some might call me rather intellectual, that's not something I require from my friends at all. I have plenty of friends with whom I've onl…

You don't understand my point, which is that this is a terrible study. Show this to anybody you know who works in science or regularly reads studies. They will laugh at this study because it's so poorly designed. It's more or less equivalent to me saying "yeah my testosterone rises on the 7th day after ejaculation and then goes back to normal, bro". A study like this does not support any point of view on the matter.

Hahaha I'm in exactly the same boat, both in terms of looks and how I handle it. I did nofap for six months and stopped when I realised that I was very seriously considering having sex with a whale.

This study is a paradigm example for bro science. Tiny sample size, unknown journal and authors, no replication. Yet it always gets cited by nofap advocates.

Yeah, I just wanted to point out that what you're saying is a minority opinion. David Chalmers, who I believe is quite respected amongst non-analytical philosophers as well, has given an interesting talk on the topic of progress in philosophy that is available on youtube. I don't really understand what you mean by your last sentence, but maybe that's because I'm a core realist myself.

British philosopher Bertrand Russell was a solipsist for a time (why does that not surprise me?), and he once received a letter from a woman who found his arguments very convincing. Well, I suppose it’s not so hard to convince a figment of you imagination that your arguments are brilliant. Anyway, the woman commented in her letter that his description of solipsism made a lot of sense and that, “I’m surprised there are not more of us.” source To be fair, I know a few women who do genuinly enjoy p…

Unfortunately, academic philosophy is largely analytic and as a result, progress has stagnated for the last 20 years. Anybody who is trained in analytic philosophy would disagree. You can't just stipulate that the main philosophical tradition of the last century doesn't produce results. The only other way one can read your argument is that you're claiming that it is the interaction between different philosophical schools that leads to results, which is also easily refuted,

I don't know, I did philosophy for my undergrad and am now doing the same as postgrad. About 80% of us are guys, but the women could hardly be distinguished from the men based on their words alone. My undergrad experience was more similar to yours, with a few exceptions. But most guys were quite disinterested as well, so it's really not like all men are into these things.

Average height in the US is about 5'91⁄2, but I couldn't find reliable data about the height distribution. In Germany average height is 5'10", but about about 43% are 6ft+ tall, so the number is likely much bigger than 10% for US citizens. source

I actually learned this from an ex-gf. When things were starting to get rocky, she told me to dress in a way that shows off my body more. I'm pretty athletic, but wore everything one size too large. Most guys do that. It didn't safe the relationship (not that it could have), but I since cringe at how most guys dress while receiving plenty of compliments from both sexes. For comparison, look at these dresses. They're very sexy despite hardly showing any skin, because they're form fitting and hint…

Philosophy is really hard and not that likely to lead you to a really high income. You're also unlikely to do well in it unless you really have a passion for it. The skills you learn if you do commit to it are very useful though, and I feel like I'm far ahead of my non-philosophy peers in some ways. Although having a philosophy degree is generally quite underrated by employers (though I've seen some that value it highly). Just to be incredibly nitpicky, philosophers these days generally agree that unicorns are impossible. See e.g. http://plato.stanford.edu/entries/possible-objects/#Uni , though I recommend reading Naming and Necessity for a better picture as this is a rather complex issue. I wouldn't normally post this, but it's a pet topic of mine and you sound like you might find this interesting :D

I completely abstained from masturbation and porn the first 5 months of 2013. Apart from increasing my baseline horniness and thinking about sex a lot more it didn't seem to change me profoundly. It did force me to go out and date more, and when I started to have sex again I also fell off the nofap wagon. After dating lots for a while, I went back to masturbating to porn regularly. I honestly don't think I was feeling better while having frequent sex or abstaining than I do now. I've only recent…

You're completely wrong and have a very simplistic and factually incorrect picture of what people are like, as well as little understanding of the science involved. You sound like you're an extrovert who used to be shy, got out of his shell and feels better about it. Good for you, but not everybody's like you.

Do you really care that much about a woman who has cheated on her boyfriend several times? If you were her boyfriend she wouldn't be any different.

Yeah thanks guys, I thought so. Since it takes a few hours for me to get there I just wanted to make sure it's the right play, and was looking for a way to increase my chances if there is one.
