Ehh...man being violent to a woman is seen as abhorrent, woman being violent to a man is seen as funny/deserved. That's what I take from the media/people. I went looking for a birthday card the other day, and as I was browsing there were several cards that depicted violence against men, threats or violence or abuse, sexual abuse/violence, but all in a 'humourous' way. It's a huge double-standard, but I never hear anyone talk about it (outside of MRAs).

In my experience women have far higher expectations of a man than vice versa. Most men I know would like a partner who's attractive and fun to be around. Women I know demand a partner who's attractive, has a good job, and nice car. That's fine, you want what you want, but what gets me is when those same women then complain about men who want an attractive partner. Yeah, 'cause that's asking for far too much isn't it. Men should lower their expecations, but not women. Classic hypocrisy.

Yeah, Janet Street-Porter, for those who don't know her, is renowned in the UK for being pretty crazy. It's not just her advocating for the whole 'we shouldn't send women to prison' thing, I've seen other people say it as well. What bafffles me is that every argument they use can be applied to men just as easily (first time offences, suffered abuse, child without parent, etc). There's genuinely no reason that women shouldn't be sent to prison, and I can't see how they can argue for it.

Aye, always seemed odd to me. Women, kids and dogs allowed, but no men! Quite why they need a fund-raising event to be gender-specific I don't know, particularly when it's mainly associated with breast cancer, which men can get too of course. Because we (society) are supposed to protect women and children, but very few people care about protecting men - we're meant to do it ourselves, and if we can't, tough. You lose. I never see homeless women. The idea of it probably outrages some people. A woman? Homeless? How terrible! Homeless man? Oh well, nothing new there.

Yeah, I consider myself anti-feminist but pro-women's rights. Women should have the same opportunities and treatment as men, and vice versa. The problem I have with feminism is that people tend to want to pick and choose which opportunities or treatment (only the good things) or actually seek to have privelege in some areas (which is surely what they're against when the shoe's on the other foot). Well, why let evidence get in the way of a woman's rights, eh? There's a law in the UK which grants women some protection if they murder their husbands, if they've been subjected to domestic abuse. Think it reduces the sentence from murder to manslaughter. Because murder's okay, as long as your partner's been an asshole.

Ehh, there's all kinds of slogans like that in the UK. "Mums are heroes" "Proud sponsor of Mums" "Approved by Mums" "Thank you Mum" They just pander to the daytime TV audience, which is primarily women. It's where you see all the "it's so easy, even a MAN could do it" type adverts, with the bumbling husband who can't do anything vaguely related to taking care of himself, let alone looking after a child or somebody else.

Just another double standard isn't it. sigh No issue with not naming the victim, most people would see that as common sense. Shame the same doesn't apply to the accused. What happened to 'innocent until proven guilty'? The usual argument I hear is "well naming them might encourage other victims to come forward!". Well, perhaps, but naming them might also have a hugely detrimental affect on their lives if they turn out to be innocent. But they're only men, so fuck them and their feelings, right? I find it pretty frustrating reading the comments on that page. Such little consideration for the boy's body and future-feelings. To dismiss the concern around circumcision as "new age" and "hippy-ish" just shows massive ignorance. One of the comments came from a woman who didn't have her son circumcised, and says he feels like the odd one out at school and self-conscious. There are 50 countries in Europe - you can't really blanket them all with one statement like that. In the UK, the discrepancy between when men and women are entitled to their state pension is being phased out, so that by 2018 it will be 65 for men and women. It's taken far too long for it to be equalised, and there will still be some discrepancies for several years until people from prior generations are 'out of the system', shall we say, but we're on the right path.

In the UK, there's a real lack of male teachers at primary schools. Lots of talk about this on the radio today. I listened to several programmes, and while there were differing views, one common theme from women was "men are dirty, I don't want to share with them, they'll only rape and abuse us". Personally I don't think it's a good idea, and I wouldn't want to share bathrooms with women for several reasons, but the overriding idea of "all men are dirty animals who'll just attack us women" was quite frustrating to listen to.

I'm not going to claim I know a great deal about genetics, but... Men are generally bigger, stronger and faster - weakness? There are diseases carried on the X chromosome and certain ailments and conditions that women are more susceptible to than men. If there's one thing that feminists love, it's taking an issue that affects everybody and turning it into a gendered issue. You can see it in education, healthcare, charities, homeless and DV shelters, all throughout society. We need to be promoting stuff like the image in the OP as it shows what MR is about - equality for all, not just one group.

At school we used to queue up to get into the canteen, and the staff would split us into boys and girls, and, without fail, let all the girls go in first, and then the boys after. Nobody said or did anything, me included. Everyone just accepted it.

The same thing gets said in the UK about big sporting events, or when the England football team is playing. I'd imagine that violence in general increases around these events, as people drink more, go out to pubs and bars to watch the games, etc. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see an increase.

For me personally, it's about addressing issues that either affect men specifically, or areas where there's an imbalance that needs looking at. I've always found this argument baffling. Surely we should be promoting the use of condoms, not circumcision. Even if circumcision did lessen the chance of contracting HIV, if you wear a condom, there wouldn't be a need for it. Seems to be that butchering a child's genitals is the preferred option to promoting common sense and responsibility.

It's the comments on stories like this that are just as concering as the article itself. As an estimate, I'd say 80% of the comments on that site are people thinking it's hilarious, that the man is lucky, or a mix of the two. People saying stuff like "i'm crying my eyes out", when a man's been sexually assaulted/raped, it just beggars belief.

It's certainly like this in the UK, usually for household/cleaning items (men are too stupid to clean, look after children, know how to use a washing machine), or stuff like cold remedies (men are too stupid/lazy to use medicine and their ailments are always 'man-flu' and not serious at all). Also, before Christmas there's usually something about women having to "save Christmas", i.e. buying all the presents, food, decorations.

I don't think that's the point that's being made. Research into male health, and male-specific cancers in particular, is massively disproportionate to that of women. I don't think anybody thinks it's a game - just questioning why the health of men isn't as important as the health of women.

This comes at the same time as an announcement that a £250,000 ($400,000) fund will be made available to charities and organisations that help men in domestic/sexual violence cases. Now, that's a drop in the ocean really, but are things starting to move in the right direction in the UK? Seems like it, to a degree at least.

Here in the UK, girls can join the Scouts (used to be referred to as 'boy scouts', but that doesn't really apply these days) but boys can't join the Girl Guides or other girl-only organisations. Loads of men-only or boy-only organisations HAVE to accept girls/women, but the same doesn't apply to the girl/women-only organisations.
