This is extremely hard to read. What does the letter say?

If he had just asked for my number at the beginning, I would have given it to him. But he didn’t and his reaction was so weird when I asked for his that I assumed there was something odd going on.

OMG. I am in some goat keeping groups (I secretly aspire to being a homesteader) and I thought this was incredibly cute until I googled what it means. WTF is wrong with him?! and her! At first glance I thought this was a cute gift to a goat-mom from a partner who recognises the challenge of goat keeping.

He is an EU citizen. If they were married, they could legally live anywhere in the EU without needing to prove they had jobs or financial means. The only possible except country is his native country but every other EU country would have to accept them.

Yeah I read it like he respected the dog more than the woman.

We haven’t been on the date yet. We have spoken on a video call and scheduled a date. Sorry I didn’t make that clearer.

It would be great to have more clarity about what kinds of conversations should be here and what should be on the website. Are they 2 platforms for the same conversations or is there some division by topic?

Seriously?! Where do you live? I’ve lived in London, Berlin, Prague and now Copenhagen without a car. I don’t even know anyone who has a car here. I know one adult woman whose parents have a car which she has borrowed at least once and that’s it. The public trains, buses etc run all day and there are alternative (longer and less frequent) routes all night too. Unless it’s Christmas and you stay out until 3am or you live very far from the city centre then you can get around just fine with the pub…

I’d drop him. If he was looking for / capable of a serious relationship then he wouldn’t be trying to get you to his place on the first date. Either he can’t see how dangerous that situation is for you or he doesnt think you’re relationship material but either way you’re better off without him.

This seems really old. Who still has a home phone? Or AIM? And there isn't anything about social media. I doubt your friend's match made this, he probably just found it online and couldn't even be bothered to bring it up to date.

Just because it works like that in your country does not mean it’s the same everywhere. Edit to add: whilst “dating” may always mean “a trial period”, many places don’t have a system of finding a life partner which is based on needing a trial period. Obviously at one end of the spectrum there are forced marriages, but I don’t know much about that. But I’ve lived in 5 European countries and 2 Asian countries so I have a little perspective when I say that “dating” is not something which is done in…

It’s very cultural. “Dating” as a relationship status (or hobby?!) is very American. In the UK for example, once you “ask someone out” you are together, they are your boyfriend or girlfriend and it is monogamous unless you discussed otherwise. In that context, going on dates with someone else is 100% cheating on them. Edit: I'm interested to see that this is getting downvoted. I haven't made a value statement here about which is better, I've simply described that not everywhere is like America. …

Thanks for the responses everyone. I think I just needed to hear some reassurance about this. I feel bad about not paying him back but I have blocked him and will not be thinking about him from now on. There were so many red flags that it felt like a game of red flag bingo. I need to up my game on pre-date vetting! He came across as perfectly nice and normal but maybe a little shy before we met.

I now have terrible cat envy. Those kitties are too cute. I’ve only ever had cats who hate to be picked up or cuddled and believe they are secretly tigers.

I lied to my friends and told them he had cancelled at the last minute because he woke up with covid-like symptoms and was worried. I was looking forward to introducing him to my friends and I think I was just too embarrassed to admit to them that he chose to do something else instead.

It’s a city centre. Everyone lives in apartments in the city centre. You’d have to go waaaaay out into the suburbs to get a villa.

I don’t know where my comment went. A colleague of mine is going on a second date with this LVM. She showed me these WhatsApp messages to ask me to help her decide if she should suggest a restaurant instead or postpone for a different day. I recommended she block and delete without messaging him again but she thinks that’s too harsh. I’m going to show her this thread to help her see she isn’t being unreasonable for expecting a date that isn’t walking in the rain.

I forget that not everyone lives in Denmark. Just like you seem to have forgotten than not everyone lives in America. I think it's quite a common mistake to forget the general background when you're focussing on a specific detail.

We live in Denmark where the culture is very different. There is no relationship status of “dating” here and it just isn’t a thing. You start a relationship with someone you already know platonically and once you start meeting in a one-to-one context (ie not in the sports team, friendship group or work setting where you got to know each other) then you’re together. There’s no need for a conversation about exclusivity because it would be cheating to start seeing multiple people at the same time. …

We are in the same friendship group. I was seeing someone when we first met and he was not dating when I became single. This is the first time we’ve both been available.

Because they're not actually looking for a relationship. They want a hookup but they're using their boyfriend-material-vibe to lure women in.I matched with the same guy on 2 sites, one of which was religious. His profile was all about how he wants something serious, he wants children, he just bought a house, he's in his mid-30s, educated, good job etc etc. We met a couple of times and he seemed ok but it turned out all he had time for at the moment was a couple of hours per week, not even time f…

Good luck. We are all cheering you on. Is there an organisation like Women’s Aid in your country? They are a charity who support women who have experienced abuse leave their abuser and reorganise their lives.

You're so right. I remember learning that stupid divorced, beheaded, died, divorced, beheaded, survived chant. I learned about the tudors when I was in year 4. We were much too young (age 8 or 9) to have placed so much focus on Henry VIII. There is loads of great, age-appropriate stuff to learn about the tudors, from the Mary Rose to Elizabeth I but instead we focussed almost all of the lesson time on glamorising this murderer who married much younger women / girls. It was actually a time of ext…

I wanted to go to Sweden last summer. I think it looks beautiful. Obviously I didn't end up going but maybe soon! Does Sweden also have the very strong LVM vibes? I love Denmark in many ways but I find the dating scene very challenging here. It seems like no one dates, they just get drunk and then have sex and if you still like the guy in the morning then you go for breakfast and actually get to know each other. Or it's tinder which is full of totally unsuitable men. And everyone seems to move i…

I get follows on this Reddit account even though it’s a brand new account I made to use on FDS only. Of course they’re all men. It doesn’t surprise me that there are enough men here to advertise to.

I live in Denmark and because I am an EU citizen I have the same rights here as someone Danish. The social support is great in terms of health care, housing and government provisions e.g. daycare and after school care is very heavily subsidised. Many Danes joke that keeping a dog is more expensive than having a child and that could well be true, especially in a city. I would be entitled to 50 weeks of paid maternity leave and because I have a good job, they would top that up to 100% of my regula…

I hadn't thought of that. You're right that there might be non-LV reasons for selling the ring.

It’s a UK based parenting forum. They have quite an active feminism board and a train wreck of a relationships board.

So many LV people in this story. Who sells the engraved wedding ring of a family member?! And who buys it?! I'm not surprised this woman isn't happy but I'm shocked at how many people in the thread thought it was ok. Later in the thread she says that the ring was a birthday gift which he paid $150 for. His birthday was a couple of weeks earlier and she bought him something for gaming which he bought some extra parts for to a total of $700.

English has so many irregular verbs. I suspect quite a few people on here are writing in the 2nd or 3rd language so that probably accounts for some of the odd English and spellings.

When I turned 30 my online dating profiles were suddenly full of men who would say they were 38 or 39 when they were actually aged 42-49. They'd send me messages to tell me they had just had this realisation. They were full of comments like "I want to be a father not a step father" and loads of weird outpourings of regret. This was back before I'd discovered FDS so I used to message them back and a few messages in they would admit their real age. When I was angry that they'd deducted 10 or more …

I love this podcast. I originally thought I wouldn't understand it because I'm not very active on reddit but actually I'm finding it's wonderful. I used to love the Guilty Feminist podcast but as I became more critical of libfem, I couldn't enjoy it anymore. I hope this podcast will fill that gap for funny, feminist chat.
