I’ve been messaging a guy (let’s call him A) on an OLD site for a little while. Today we had this interaction.

A: If you like, we can chat on WhatsApp and get to know each other better.

Me: What’s your number?

A: Maybe you can tell me your number. Of course, if you don’t want to, I will respect you.

Me: This is odd, why don’t you want to give me your number?

This went on for a few more messages of him asking for my number and refusing to give his or explain why before I blocked and deleted him.

Why would someone do that? Would you assume it was actually the 2nd profile of another man I’ve been messaging? I’ve been on a few dates with someone else (let’s call him B) but I’m trying to keep other options open to stop myself getting too attached to B too quickly. I’ve also been approached by someone else (let’s call him C) but I’m not interested in him so I told him I’m not dating at the moment. Would you suspect A is actually B or C? I have literally no evidence either way but I can’t understand what A was doing otherwise.
