So your logic is, "No one would ever choose this for themselves because it's excruciatingly painful, so let's just force it on babies because they can't say no!" Yeah? Hmm...

I just want to point out that there are many sexist things which exist in our society for men and women, and everything in between, that parents do just because they think they're trying to look out and do what's best for their child, but instead, they're severely fucking up their child. And how can we say circumcision done for religious reasons in America isn't misandry when female circumcision is done for religious reasons around the world but it's illegal in America. All forms of it, even the…

I don't know, I think it does, ya know? Kids aren't our property. We are entrusted with their responsibility until they come of age. But we don't own them. To say, "He's my kid, I get to do whatever I want to him." I mean... No, you don't. You can make medical decisions for your child, when medically necessary. Men can't choose to cut their infant girl's labia's if that's their sexual preference. Why do women get to say, "I think uncut looks weird, so I'm circumcising my son." It's crazy.

This is the mensrights subreddit, where we discuss mensrights, even if it pertains to religion, or politics. But I do respect it if you personally do not wish to talk about it. :)

Don't you agree that religion shouldn't have the right to permanently alter another person's body without their consent? Babies don't have religion. Babies cannot consent to a religious ritual being done in which part of their body is being cut off. But no, unfortunately in America it's a gender issue, not a religious issue. Most infant circumcisions done in America are done for "medical" reasons, not religion. Religion is the reason that baby boys are circumcised in most other countries. Americ…

Why would they have the procedure done when they are older? You are completely disregarding the idea that it is pointless. In every other industrialized nation in the world it isn't done, and the grown men do not desire it to be done to them. It's pointless. Do you comprehend that? It's pointless done to an adult, and pointless done to a baby. That being said, it's actually much safer and better done to an adult. The only downside is that it's a longer recovery time (6 weeks as opposed to a week…

The insane excuses that perpetrate genital cutting make no sense to me... It's an advantage? It's one layer of skin on your penis. How can it possibly help out so much that you think it's worth it to risk a baby's life? Not to mention the ethics of "his body, his choice." Is there any other body part we're allowed to remove without prior medical indication or defect? Any?

Ahh, and no, it's not normal in most cultures... America is the only first world country in the world that practices routine infant circumcision of minors. In other countries it is done for religion (Jewish and Muslim), and the few cases of medically necessary circumcisions. It is really only common in America or areas heavily populated by Jews and Muslims.

Hmm, that's odd because most Europeans that I talk to had no idea that circumcision was so prevalent in America, and when they learn it is, they are dumbfounded and horrified as to why. Just why. Perfectly fine? Relatively safe? Maybe relatively safe, but not completely safe. Babies do die from it? And for what? What is so necessary and life-changing that it is worth the risk of a life? Can you not be against something unless it directly relates to you? Can you not be against female genital muti…

No, you're not understanding. I was trying to say that I hear both arguments. I hear so many arguments, but those are quite common. I hear that it improves cleanliness, and that boys are too stupid to clean their own penises. I do view it as a cruel and barbaric practice. I did not always. I was raised in America, in one of the few cultures in this world in which it's normal. After learning that the foreskin has a function, and isn't just some extra skin, and that there are genuinely men in the …

You say improving cleanliness like it's such an easy thing... You are talking about literally cutting off part of someone at birth. That's kind of the most invasive form of "improving cleanliness" I've ever heard of. It's really very simple for an intact male to pull back his foreskin and rinse under it. In most countries, circumcision isn't done routinely on infants at all. Most adults in the world are not circumcised and have no problems with it. It's like suggesting removal of the ears at bir…

I'm gonna go ahead and end this conversation because it's getting nowhere and you make insane correlations between things (pooping and breastfeeding?!) and don't make sense half the time to me (I understand what you are saying, just not how your mind could possibly lead you to these conclusions). I'm in /r/mensrights, I'm subscribed to this subreddit, I'm very open minded about the struggles men face that a good portion of the world refuses to recognize. Have your own opinion about when/where a woman can/should breastfeed, I don't care. But don't try to impose that on any woman, as it's not your place to do. Ridiculous and sexist. Men can go topless, we have guidelines to feeding our children? And why would you ever think when you saw a woman breastfeeding in public that it was because she can and not because it's necessary for her young to eat? A woman breastfeeding her baby is never inappropriate unless she's buck ass naked and not in her home while so. Boobs + baby = normal. Made for each other.
/r/MensRights03/11/12 06:29 PM

Kind of like how women are protected by breastfeeding laws but many women are still (illegally) kicked out of restaurants or made to go into the unsanitary bathroom? Kind of like how that happens every single day but speedo arresting incidents... pretty rare I think it's safe to say.

As a breastfeeding mother, I can only tell you how much breastfeeding women are harassed by other people and the media for merely whipping out a boob to feed our children so I don't think it'd work out as easy as you seem to think.

That's the only part I took issue with and I came here to say this. Now, I'm an MRA/feminist/egalitarian/whatever fucking title, and I certainly don't blame men or patriarchy (wow my phone just auto corrected that to matriarchy lol, how's that for irony) for all my problems, but to never feel judged based on your gender? If it doesn't have to be done, why would you do it?? God made us perfect, in His image, don't you believe that? Isn't that one of the fundamental tenants of Christianity? The only reason Jews have to remove it is for a sacrifice. We don't have to, therefore, we shouldn't, because if we do, we are insulting God and saying He is not perfect, and didn't create us perfect. You are saying that He makes mistakes.

Also, if you're a true Christian, I suppose you'll know that only the Old Testament says to circumcise (not because the foreskin was bad, but because it was meant to be a blood sacrifice). In the New Testament (which contains the laws of Christianity), Jesus died on the cross for your sins (you might remember this part?), and spilled his own blood, thereby forming a new contract with God, so we didn't have to sacrifice anything anymore to get into Heaven. ~Rom. 2: 17-19 "But if you bear the name…

Lotus birth absolutely doesn't change a belly button shape. Given time, the umbilical cord will fall off, just like normal. If a belly button is forming outwards, it is because of a common neonatal birth defect called a congenital umbilical hernia. (Any age can get this, but newborns are particularly susceptible based on their thin and weak muscle wall.)
/r/MensRights07/10/12 11:53 PM
8

And afterwards you get powerful pain medications like vicodin, codeine, darvocet.... What does a newborn baby get? His wound gets to heal in a diaper full of urine and feces and if he cries, they assume he wants a boob, or a diaper change, and if he's particularly fussy, he has colic, and maybe a parent is smart enough to give him baby tylenol once or twice after he gets home from the hospital while his wound heals. Hmm...

Oh, so you were circumcised for a valid medical reason and you're getting mad at people who were circumcised for no medical reason? That's like comparing a woman who needed a mastectomy telling a woman who was tied down and had her breasts forcefully removed that it doesn't matter that she feels violated or didn't choose that, and she should just shut up and live with it. No, no there isn't any strong new evidence. The AAP revised their policy statement to say the benefits outweigh the risks (DEATH, does any benefit truly outweigh that risk?) There were no new studies added to their revised policy statement. They just changed their view. I was under the impression he could commit the financial abortion during the pregnancy, after conception has occurred, so he'd have a "choice" but she wouldn't, as far as abortion goes. Someone else brought up adoption which I hadn't thought of (d'oh!), but I know a lot of women that still wouldn't do that to their kid. Then again, hopefully with this hypothetically in place, many men wouldn't be volunteering to commit financial abortion, if they had tried for the baby in the first place, or it …

No, I wouldn't. I'll deal with 9 months of what I assume may be misery, to give the innocent baby life. And, while I haven't been raped in the technical sense (or have I? My ex had sex with me once when I was passed out... not traumatized by it because I don't remember it, but the thought makes me uneasy.), but I've been sexually molested, so I think I can say with some measure of surety anyways, that for me, no I wouldn't.

I suppose for some women, yes, good idea I hadn't thought of for some reason. For me, in extreme circumstances like rape, perhaps.
/r/MensRights29/09/12 07:46 AM

But there's a small technicality... not all women are pro choice. I am a woman, and I'm pro life. Abortion is not an option for me. To me, it's killing a baby, a human. What about these women? Some women could then still be forced to raise a child who they were under the impression of raising with a consensual father. Not arguing with the whole idea of it, because I do agree men should have a way out if a woman tricks them into getting pregnant or what have you. Just wondered what your thoughts …

But that makes no sense. It's either better for everybody, or not necessary for everybody. There is no, "It's better, but only if the parents want it, if they don't want it, that's okay too!" You can't fathom it like a blind person can't fathom colors. You haven't experienced it, so what? It is what it is. You can get off fine, that's all that matters, but circumcision CAN be very damaging to many men. I know SOME men who literally can't get off without vigorous jackhammering. I respect my childrens rights above any parental right I may have. They are human beings. My point wasn't that circ is deadly, which it is, but that a foreskin is not. Any benefits are considered null when you look at it from an ethical point of view. It's not your body, not your choice. There is no medical indication, and there's no other surgery we do preemptively to possibly prevent some things, unless they're elective, and you're over 18.
/r/MensRights26/09/12 05:41 PM

Let me try to say this in a way you'll understand. It's not your penis. Parents don't just get to choose what parts of their children they get to keep or not. "Aww, he's so perfect... Except that bit, that's gotta go."
/r/MensRights26/09/12 05:40 PM

Oh because men perpetuate it against other men, that makes it a-okay? So a man raping a man is okay? Uhm, no. And those are the only people who actually do NOT decide if they want to be circumcised or not.

Men are normal for men and women are normal for women. It's not comparable to handicapped men and women AT ALL. If the special Olympics were the same as th…

I read it actually. They were merely teenagers at the time and the man was usually much higher up, and was just brought down to below the 200's that season. It doesn't excuse their snotty behavior, but it wasn't exactly fair either. Besides that, I didn't say physically women and men are the same, did I!? I didn't say, there should be one big league of athletes and to stop separating them by gender, did I? No. But saying womens sport is on par with the special Olympics is clearly meant to be an …

My father paid no child support growing up. Now that we are adults, he's paying all the back child support he owes, and we don't mind that my mom spends it as she likes. She spent her whole life working her ass off alone to raise us 3. That's her money. Though I'm definitely not condoning this picture. Seriously, coach purses and shoes?! My mom uses hers on BILLS lol. Those are never ending.

Makes sense. :) I don't know anything about the organization as a whole, it looks like they post stories people send them, so some of their stories could be legitimately pro-MR. This particular one, while I've seen a critique in the comments that makes sense, I still feel it's generally a good message to get out there to women, "Stop assuming that a man is just off work hanging with his kids, he could be a sahd, and stop assuming that fathers are less parents than mothers, and anytime with dad i…

Of course not... Just treating stay at home dads the same as we treat stay at home moms, as equal parents. I see too often people degrading dads and their roles in parenting. Equating that they're too stupid to raise children. Which of course, they aren't.

If there are female rights groups... Why be upset about men's rights groups? These feminists have it backwards, I think. Actually, I think it'd be better if we did away with the gender connotations completely and just had human rights groups, but since I don't see that happening... What's the big deal about having both? Funny they're getting up in arms about how there should ONLY be feminism, when isn't that sexist in and of itself? It's kind of refreshing to hear every society isn't like, "Zomg boys are #1" But not to this extent! I'd be much happier with people just giving up gender selection all together and being happy with what they get! This is tooo far!

As the mother of two girls, I find this completely ridiculous. I wouldn't trade them for boys and vice versa if they were boys I wouldn't trade them for girls. That is part of your child's identity, it makes them THEM. I felt so bad for the first three boys this woman had, to know you were just a huge disappointment for your mom, so much so that she went out and spent, what? 40K just to get a girl. Riiiidiculous!

It's pretty comparable. You're cutting the genitals. EVERY form of female circumcision is illegal, even the least invasive, which requires just a pin prick of blood. I think it's thoroughly agreed that that's a lot less harmful than removing the entire foreskin. EDIT: Also that's 14 square inches of "just a bit of foreskin." The size of an index card.
/r/MensRights28/08/12 04:49 AM

And you're gay, so it matters a lot what you think about how penises look?

JUST medically unnecessary circumcision. Prior to any medical indication. Prior to consent. On healthy normal tissue.

/r/MensRights28/08/12 04:34 AM

It becomes mens rights when it's illegal for one gender and legal for another. Female circumcision became illegal in ALL forms in 1997.

You can spend your life in fear, or just recognize that it happened and it won't again. Call me confident lol. I'm not saying it doesn't still bug me, or have lasting repercussions. It does. And if the man was raped, does he get any choice or is it just if she decides to keep it, he HAS to have it otherwise it'd go to a rapist, and who wants that? Or maybe she'd be excluded altogether and if he chose not to keep it, it'd go into foster care? That'd be much better than going with a rapist if you ask me.
/r/MensRights23/08/12 10:46 PM

I have no sons, but I have two daughters, two children, and I can't imagine something like this happening to any of my children, regardless of their gender. :'( You didn't deserve that. As a mother, my advice is to tell your Mommy so she can kick that bitch's ass! Just kidding 'cause violence is bad, period, but if I were your Mom I'd definitely want to! Okay, this post is taking a weird turn lol. You have my well wishes. <3

You think all rape takes from a person is virtue?
/r/MensRights16/08/12 01:15 AM
1

Sorry, I just named it the title that it showed lol. Also it says mother, not father on the title. It is showing the mother in the disciplinarian role. I think it was trying to show the new normal with a common phrase you hear mothers say frequently on tv, "Just wait until your father gets home!" But now it can be mother too. That's how I saw it anyways.

There is no evidence at all that he was trying to save her.
/r/MensRights11/08/12 04:40 AM
1

Which is why I'm hazarding a guess that the article is being biased in making him out to be a hero. It was likely just a tragic accident.
/r/MensRights11/08/12 04:04 AM
2

I should add that they know the boy was under the girl, holding her up at the cost of his life, while himself drowning OR the more likely scenario that she panicked and used his body to keep herself afloat.
/r/MensRights11/08/12 03:29 AM
2

Because she more than likely did. Seems like the most likely scenario, yet the other scenario was assumed, which is much less likely and I think gender biased.
/r/MensRights11/08/12 03:27 AM
1

Exactly. So saying he valiantly sacrificed himself is preemptive. It's possible, though unlikely.
/r/MensRights11/08/12 03:17 AM
2

She likely held him under in her panic and accidentally drowned him. Gender has nothing to do with that but referring to him as a hero does.
/r/MensRights11/08/12 03:15 AM
4

I am a girl... So... I am definitely not implying that at all lol. But this boy was drowned accidentally and tragically and then heralded as a hero. I just don't see that happening on the other side of the fence. I don't imagine a 3 or 4 year old boy even capable of this kind of self sacrifice. That's why I said he didn't sacrifice himself to save her, he was likely tragically accidentally drowned by her in her panic. (This is common in a person that is drowning, even an adult.)
/r/MensRights11/08/12 02:16 AM
2

The title of the original article is misleading. Read my comment. They make it out like he saved her. No one can know that, no one even saw it happen. All they know is that she was saved by keeping herself afloat on him. This is a common thing when a person is drowning though. They lose their logic and sense of reason and grab anything nearby, frequently drowning or almost drowning someone else in their panic to save themselves. Chances are good that this is what happened. He was near her and sh…

A 4 year old does not have the mental capacity for self sacrifice, I'm pretty sure. Correct me if I'm wrong.
/r/MensRights11/08/12 01:00 AM
6

I feel this pertains to men's rights because if it were vice versa'd I'm not sure if the girl would be called a hero for drowning to save a boy. Also the fact that when you're drowning, you panic and grab the nearest thing, you lose logic, and many people have pushed other people under the water in their attempt to save themselves. I seriously doubt he saved her, if anything he was trying to get up to breath, but she pushed him down to save herself. She's not to blame, of course, she panicked, a…

Look, the last comment is pretty much me SAYING that the opinion itself doesn't matter, but it's about the respect not to go around saying stuff is weird, because it's rude. That's it. I'm not personally offended, I don't tug, I'm an intact person, and a woman besides but I do find it offensive (which means others could be offended by it) and rude to say. I think a lot of things are weird that I don't just go out and say about it, because I have tact.
/r/MensRights08/08/12 06:49 PM

Well then it's really all about respect and maturity not to be openly rude towards another set of people who choose otherwise.

While I still upvoted you, I dislike that you called it that weird foreskin restoration shit. It's a valid thing, that many men find helpful. If it's not for you, fine, but it's still a valid option for many men.

As a female victim of sexual molestation, I agree 100%. It is insulting for us women that have been through that to make up such lies. It gives us a bad name. Makes it hard to believe us. And that hurts more women in the end because those who actually seek help and aren't trusted or are ignored because a lot of these things are hard to prove, and it's all a he said she said. Women that do this, lie like this, are against women.

Are you reading my words at all?? Whether it reduced the risk or not (I think not), many people falsely think it completely prevents it, so they are using condoms even less. Therefore, inadvertently, circumcision is causing people to be less protected even if it did reduce the risk, because of less condom usage, which is the BEST protection against HIV/AIDS apart from abstinence. You say sure we'll teach safe sex in Africa like it's a joke, but this is the best way to protect people. And America…

And there are actually published studies showing circumcision has no effect on HIV/AIDS. America also has the highest prevailance of HIV/AIDS in the first world countries, and also the highest rate of circumcision. In Africa, the circumcision propaganda can be dangerous, because it gives people a false sense of security. Many think that circumcision PREVENTS HIV/AIDS not merely reduces the risk which is the highest pro circ claims in Africa. Therefore, a lot of people are having unprotected sex,…

Are you an idiot? I'm genuinely curious. I'm not equating circumcision to genocide, although the 100+ babies a year that die from RIC in America is absolutely deplorable. As I already said, I've heard so many people tell me that circumcision is legal, so it must be good. If it was bad, it would be illegal. This is a powerful quote to make people think about the fact that just because something is legal doesn't make it okay. Just like the awful genocide Hitler committed in Germany was legal, it w…

Regardless, in America the majority of the populous are Christians and most have the mistaken idea that they have to circumcise for their religion. In fact, it's forbidden numerous times in the New Testament. The Old Testament contains the laws of those who practice Judaism. This is extremely relevant because so many are misled about Christianity and circumcision.

I have the same feelings about circumcision vs. birth control and abortion rights. I'm told I can't have an opinion on circumcision because I'm a female. Fuck that. Standing up for a persons basic human right to genital autonomy is everyones responsibility. And equally, men can have an opinion on birth control and abortion. Birth control or lack thereof effects both parties, as does abortion, and even circumcision for that matter. That's not to say a mans opinion is never gonna be wrong, just li…

We definitely aren't perfect, we argued a lot, it took us 2 years to get the divorce, but in the end, we argued and came up with a solution ourselves. My ex doesn't make an awful lot, and he complained an awful lot about the child support, which I feel is definitely important for our daughter, but why would I ask for alimony for a 2 month marriage, you know? That's sad! I'm happy for the reduction but wish it was reduced for men too. That being said, I got a divorce, I guess no fault? Irreconcilable differences (he left me 2 months after we got married, after a 5 year relationship). I asked for no alimony though, just the child support, since he agreed to give me full custody (no court battle, our decision), and him get visitation rights, though that's super casual, I just let him come over whenever he wants anyways. I know, I know, not exactly on the topic of "men's rights" more of a personal rant, but semi relevant because this is true of both sides. Men should be able to express their anger, and women too. What I mean is with the publicity of his death, someone might change their mind on circumcising their son. I've saved many boys by just spreading these stories. I think you're a bit confused, sir. Some men have and do oppress women and women oppress themselves. I believe in equal rights, no special privileges. You are thinking of mainstream feminists. There are equality feminists too. Trust me, they're out there. Like me. I hate those feminazi types too.

Uh wow, uhm, NOT true. I'm a feminist who doesn't believe in female superiority. I may be in the minority, but we DO exist. I advocate for female rights AND men's rights. The main thing I focus on for female rights is breastfeeding, that's important to me, so I do a lot of activism on that, which is female specific. Which makes me a feminist, but NOT the evil feminazi kind. Trying to say there are NO GOOD feminists sounds a lot like those crazy feminists who say all of the MRA's are evil misogyn…

Healthy criticism is a good thing for any movement. I think a movement can become such a massive machine that it could get out of hand without criticism. But of course criticizing the mainstream feminist movement is seen as 'sexist' in media head lines. Now, I'm not saying that most feminists aren't of the crazy variety, but there are some that aren't, and if we lost the sect of good feminists that just is genuinely passionate about girls/women's rights, who do we have to focus on that? We'd hav…

I don't agree with the draft at all, but I absolutely disagree that men should be subjected to it and not women. Like what? Men's lives are disposable but women should be protected. I DO disagree with the draft, but regardless, our boys still have to sign up for it at the age of 18, and our girls don't. If there's going to be a draft, it should be equal. How does drawing arbitrary lines between feminists benefit the men's movement? How about how it benefits equality? If all there is in the world is MRA's, who just want equality for men, and crazy feminists who want superiority for women, there is no segment of people who are like the MRA's, just wanting equality for women. I cannot even comprehend how a distinction between a feminist that promotes her gender as being superior from a feminism who only wants equal rights, could hurt the men's righ…

In their anger at injustice, they confuse the enemy and resort to all kinds of attacks against people who would be allies. YES! Definitely both sides do this and I think it further alienates the gap! If that is true that they fight against men's equality, that's incredibly depressing. How can they call themselves feminists even?! But to me, it seems odd to have to say specifically that I'm not anti-male just because I support womens' rights. To me, that would be like if all Nazi's just called themselves Germans, and as a non-Nazi German, I had to specifically SAY, I'm a non-Nazi German, unlike THOSE Germans over there, who call themselves Germans, but are actually Nazi Germans. Like, I'm the…

By the way, I'm an 'equality feminist' who is also pro-life, so I don't specifically want all those rights to terminate my child, when a man gets no such rights. I also believe it's absurd that a woman can decide to terminate a pregnancy, an unborn child, that is just as much his child as her child. It's true that she's carrying it, and he isn't, but that's the way our bodies work, that's not a man's fault. He can be traumatized by a woman aborting his child without caring about his feelings. Except that to be anti male is strictly against the definition of being a feminist. And I'm not saying there aren't women or groups who call themselves feminists but are anti male. I'm sure there are. But that's just not supposed to be the goal of feminism. Equal rights is the goal, which is your goal too. I'm really disgusted by the fact that I come here, wanting equal rights for all, which is all a true feminist would want.
