I'm your typical "nerd coming out of shell" case. Online dating didn't work for me (I never had good photos/always wrote too much) so I tried speed dating back in April. The weirdest thing happened. I ended up meeting a girl who saw me as a project of a sort: Redoing my wardrobe, as well as general fashion advice. Since then it's become a case of plate->relationship. From her I've learned fashion 101 and how not to look so dorky. I've gradually learned to slow down and not be so rushed and klutz…

Too many. I've been asked odd questions, or occasionally shit-tested before (and flunked). Like this one girl I dated in BP days that asked "do you think I'm too JAP-y?" (Oy vey). ...actually, are there any good guides to disarming religious asd out there? Be it (homeschooled) Southern Baptist or Catholic-Lite? It might as well be stickied.

I answer honestly: on-and-off, most workout comes from dance (swing, contra, some salsa. Adding tango).

Not a Magic nerd, but a 40k nerd. Learn to dance. Not club dance, like swing or salsa. Even waltz or contra. When I was your age, my view was: "American women generally don't dance. Learning to dance is futile." Nowadays, my view is: "American women generally don't dance. I can make them do what I want!" You learn self-confidence, and how to talk to women, both verbally and physically. If you tense up at the thought of an attractive woman in your arms, this will help you out so much. Good luck!

When I first took up swing dance, I found it amusing that maintaining a proper physical channel of communication with your partner is called "maintaining frame." Between that and contra, you become a rock where her dance literally revolves around you. Dance can do wonders but for a man that's recovering from afc days, it does two things: it keeps you from putting any one person on a pedestal, and it trains you up to not be as much of a klutz handling women. The ages of dancers may vary but our c…

TRP is ultimately about not having to apologize for being a man, whether to others or yourself. You live for your own destiny, rather than becoming an eternal sycophant seeking the desperate approval of women, coworkers, etc.

If nothing else, working as a software programmer quickly teaches you that what people want and what people say they want tend to be quite different.

You don't need a fancy matrix reference to lose any artificial illusion of what humans really are. Spend 5 minutes on an online dating site and you will see the worst that people have to offer.

Don't be a drone. That's really it. Find what you are good at and apply yourself, and don't be afraid to say "no" when you have a better solution. I'll advocate for software development, though the corporate culture varies from company to company. Avoid large no-name outsourcing/no-name firms of course, and aim for the companies that are local to the area: While most companies will advertise their community involvement corporate line, companies will put more emphasis on their home turf so to spe…

Clothing is the big one. Not that you should buy into clothing fads or anything stupid like that, but you should get used to the fact that your shirts will stain, fade, get small holes in them, general wear and tear. Throw out your basics when they go bad. Don't try to hold onto them, patch up that tear, etc. (Fixing a popped button is one thing. Trying to stitch a hole in a sock is another). Half of appearance is not even about looking attractive but about showing you can take care of yourself …

You're taking yourself too seriously. When you get emotionally worked up over women, you become less fun to be around. Might I suggest you take up swing or some other type of dance where some basic "guy-ask-girl" dynamics are in place, and some manhandling is expected? If nothing else, it will help you feel less klutzy in general, make physical contact less of an experience nightmare, and encourage you not to overfocus on one woman at a time.

Tough question to answer, but: Our local contra dance community has quite a few lookers. Enrolled in Greek lessons out of personal interest. By chance, I'm the only male student. YMMV, but cash permitting find some course at your community college/otherwise. Avoid the workplace.

Hell, I would just say being able to cook in general, simply from a self-sufficiency standpoint, and being able to control your own diet (and that of any women in your life). Cooking is the weapon of the domestic woman. She makes her man feel appreciated, and makes him so overweight no other woman would want to sleep with him. Don't be that guy.

Have some Umberto Eco, while you're at it: "Belbo had a way of standing at the bar as if he were just passing through (he had been a regular there for at least ten years). He often took part in conversations, at the counter or at a table, but almost always he did no more than drop some short remark that would instantly freeze all enthusiasm, no matter what subject was being discussed. He had another freezing technique: asking a question. Someone would be talking about an event, the whole group w…

I was once billed a $50,000 phone bill at the workplace due to the offshore accounting software failing to convert from Rupees to Dollars, as well as other errors I can only hypothesize at. Corporate sent a mass email saying "disregard, this mailing software is only for employees in India." It was infuriating that such sloppiness could ever be implemented internally; there's cutting corners and then there's just not giving a shit. But then after awhile it became funny, worth laughing at in all i…

Borderline case. Brother has full-blown autism and I was always fairly socially off. Turned out after several separate tests (psychologist, career help, etc) that ADD fit better; basically in the top 1% of most everything except short-term attention. Meds helped. A lot. Just that a lot of social how-to feels more "learned" than natural. And I need more practice.

I would guess a lot of people are simply terrified of being smart, looking smart, or just get horrid stage fright when put on the spot (standardized tests, etc). It's a herd mentality thing. "Be smart, but don't make others feel dumb."

Dance is one of the last of a shrinking pool of social encounters where it's not just socially acceptable but expected to be the man, and with contra that reflects in the women there too (or at least that's the surface observation where I am). Side Notes: Most dances are arranged as a line, two people wide; the lead has his follow at the right. As the line then has a series of couples facing each other, this means that each lead starts off cardinally adjacent to 3 follows/vice-versa. Most dances…

Relapsed Catholic guy here. Basically "neutral" in religion, as people will find any excuse to be shitty regardless of written belief. I've been asked how come I don't attended church in general, and part of it was generally not fitting in with them when I was younger. I orbited a girl from the Balkans for most last year. Throughout it, she pretty much was a redpillwoman in mindset. Needed someone more aggressive/protective/likes older men/etc. She traveled abroad, we alienated each other. I got over it in...a few days? To her credit, there wasn't an afbb dynamic going on. After realizing how absurd it was to get emotionally attached to someone so unavailable, and coming to terms that aggression is acceptable, I ended up here. From the outside, trp gives the i…

Read The Well Cultured Anonymous. It's old but classic. Best lesson is replacing "maybe we could grab dinner" with "you should come along." The first sounds wishy-washy, the second is halfway commanding/halfway knowing your shit. Do your homework. Don't go for the expensive places first (afbb). Find a diner/sushi bar. Avoid overly kitschy places. Lift bro. Also, you know you're not trying to prove yourself to your gym buddy. Besides if you're a noob, why is he trying to challenge you? You can un…

Tailor for your audience, don't laugh at your jokes, and tailor them for context. Sometimes a "that's what she said" can work though it's been overdone to death. Wordplay is key, double entendres especially so. The English language is overloaded with words having multiple meanings (Buffalo buffalo...). Don't try too hard. This applies to comedy doubly so. There's a difference between a rapier wit and being the court jester.

Vito Corleone. Respect is power, deal with people until they're unable to see reason, and remove them from your life before they become a threat. Never outburst in anger, and maintain your standards. The sayings "nothing personal, just business" and "all business is personal" go side-by-side one another.

I would be down for comedy. The two main out-of-work activities I have been into for the past few months have been contra dancing and Greek classes. I occasionally attend or run board game nights (gamer nerd, go figure) and have been trying to pick up archery. Main things I need are: How to lift, and how to handle social groups larger than four people. Introversion sucks. Hard.

5 is more subjective. While some interests are mostly (or most notably) female interests (yaoi, shipping/fanfics), they are niche. Likewise, some videogames/series are popular despite gender (Minecraft, Game of Thrones). Otherwise, fair enough.

The successful videogames are addictive by design. Just one more turn, one more block, one more instant payoff. You can quantify your gains, artificial though they may be. You can either look up a reference manual, FAQs, or even check the source code in some cases. Women require long-term maintenance, your standing is not tied to Boolean logic, and looking up her references will get you labeled a stalker. Is it any wonder that videogames can be a powerful snare for the isolated, the introverted,…

Loaded question. Humor comes in many forms. Some people like gallows humor, some people like borscht belt comedy, some like satirical treaties, and some like comic operas. I would say women comedians are harder to spot. I remember the fruitcake lady from The Tonight Show, or the asian woman from MAD TV (and Bunifa Latifa Halifa Sharifa Jaaaackson!), but never liked Sarah Silverman or Ellen. If you broke him early, it's going to take a lot of effort to teach him the meaning of personal initiative and perspective in life. Likewise, finding purpose to what he's doing rather than abandoning him to videogames like my folks did (I grew up on Starcraft when I was 12, and a fat lot of good that did). Does he know what fun is? Does he have anything resembling friends or is he their collective bitch? What do we have to work with him?
