My exes girlfriends said "Always stay with a guy who's involved in IT. They'll do well" think about it, everything is becoming more IT, adapt and learn. The possibilities are endless, I help people repair computers, make websites, build computers. You just need to learn, becoming a jack of all trades if you like.

I see IT as a way of creating businesses, you don't necessarily need to work for someone.

Everywhere i hear that the most important skill an I.t person should have is interpersonal skills. This is why so many marketing and business students have some how made their way into high paying positions within the I.t departments of large corporations. Sony is a perfect example, the head of their I.t department or I.t security, was a business guy who knew people in the company.

Now this briefly answers both your questions. Work on your ability to communicate. Bitches fold shirts for a living, who gives a fuck if they find your job nerdy. You provide a service that billions of people utilize every moment and are part of a small percentage that can even comprehend how to do so.

Be a better communicator and listener.

Be confident about your job, like I said it's undervalued.

The future is now, and you happen to be part of a group that works to proactively recognize, enable and sustain that future.

If nothing else, working as a software programmer quickly teaches you that what people want and what people say they want tend to be quite different.

If it is earning a lot of money you are after, I think you have the wrong end of the stick. Learning programming/network/security skills can keep you employed, there is no doubt about that, with some things paying more than others. But you won't get rich by working for other people, selling your time, you have to start your own company and generate passive income. Several good books on entrepreneurship around at the moment, and some good podcasts, too. Being a programmer is something that a lot of women don't understand, and I don't think it gets you a lot of points. Owning your own software company, on the other hand (even though you may be doing more or less the same thing) does.

As a mental skill, though, I highly recommend learning to program. I regard it as practical logic.

Not really. IT is a logical thing. To attract women you have to affect them on an emotional level. If you have an IT job (or any other normal job, really) you can either play it up and be really passionate about it, or you can downplay it and give smartass answers the first few times she asks. ("I'm a disposable lighter salesman." "I'm an ass model." "I work in porn as a stunt cock.") Either approach should work.

I guess, I could say IT.

I took a few chances over the last few months, moved nearer to the city and networked a lot.

I'm handing in my notice on Tuesday. I just landed a major gig. I am going to be overseeing a decent laboratory in one of the biggest names in my field. It boasts a significant salary bump and some really cool names to work with. I also get to look after four technicians/engineers and authority to immediate double its capacity within 2015.

I did all of it by networking and I did all of it by being smart. I even declined their first offer, stating the salary and vacation days were not up to scratch!

If you want tips though, I have these:

Get a degree. And get one that is useful from a decent institution or if you're over 22 go for distance learning. The Open University is great!
Do not work a day in IT Support jobs. They are described as a way to "break into" the industry and get your foot on the ladder. They are not. Most likely you will rot there until you can't take being the focal point of negativity any more.
If servers are in your future, start looking at the appropriate certifications. But bear in mind, certs aren't there to make your career, they are there to enhance a career already in progress.

IT is a funny field.

It pays really well as an entry field, and it pays fairly well at the top. Mid-career is where it gets funny.

Lets take law for example. The average (mean) salary for a lawyer is $131,990, but the median salary is only $76,437. This means that there's a few people raking in the cash, but most aren't breaking six figures. They're also working a lot of hours.

As a networking guy who gets his foot in the door young; you could be making $60k before the lawyer even enters law school.

The problem is, like so many other fields, it takes a lot more Indians than Chiefs. The middle of your career is a challenge to continue to advance until you can get those skills and years of experience to make it to the top level positions. Starting your own company probably isn't a legitimate option until you've held one of those top-level jobs for a few years. You probably just don't have the name, experience, contacts, etc. to do it until then. Sure there are start-ups that change the world, but there are tons that fail. If you get a chance to be part of a start-up that you really believe in and has a unique idea, then by all means. If you're looking to just start another company that will install IT infrastructure for a new office building, well then you're gonna need that experience and those contacts.

It's only going to hurt your ability to attract women if you expect it to. Own your career. Be passionate about what you do for a living. It's not really what you do that is important, it's how you do it.

I don't think working in IT would hinder you in your TRP way of life. In fact, I believe working in IT shows some TRP qualities by itself:

You know things other people don't, meaning that employers actually need you;
Therefore, you will probably earn a lot of money and live a luxurious lifestyle;
You know things that can make you incredibly powerful (the things you can do with data are becoming scary).

Of course, this is all relative to they way you deal with this information. When you feel 'nerdy'/'geeky' and act like this, people still won't respect you. However, if you give a firm handshake, keep laser eye-contact with your superiors and develop a 'I know what I'm doing'-attitude, you will be immensely successful - especially in IT.

It's the other way around for me. Getting into RP got me a lot of confidence, taught me power-talk, and showed me how to present myself to other people.

Half the people in my group as super low-confidence betas who willingly undersell themselves. One guy literally starts every question with "Now it could be that I'm dumber than average, but..." and makes it really clear to everyone that he is at the bottom of the totem pole.

Basically, get to the point of "I tell everyone that I'm awesome and can do anything they want" and everyone will think that.

Also agreed to get into the more technical side of things. It basically goes Helpdesk, SysAdmin, Networking, Programmer, Information Security, in my opinion. Try to get as far up that as you can, especially if you can have the skills from each.

IT Security here. Nerdy maybe but I love security from management to pentesting to forensics and so on. I don't get to work on every cyber security field there is but having a passion for the job is essential. I think you can "paint" IT jobs in her mind as awesome and amazing or as boring and dull as you like. Don't consider this as advice, it just my 2¢

I offer programming courses. There are very few women and they're all my students but they're all adults as well. We keep in touch after completion of courses because they often need my help when they start taking on freelancing projects. We meet up sometimes. Not to say they're all hot, but you know where this is going. I have fucked my ex students and friends of my ex students. Not a lot of competition from other men in IT.

I'd say develop your people skills. There is plenty of lower level IT work available, some of it highly paid. But if you want to get status and recognition for your work... and beat back the hordes of Indian Outsource guys who can work for cents on your dollar... You gotta be able to manage people.

If you've got that, you don't need to fear the outsource.... You'll be the guy they use to manage the outsourced teams !

Do you like technology? Do you like WoW? Do you like MtG? Anime? Science? Excellent! So you do have brains. Now use those brains to get out of your shell and go out there and live. I know is hard but not impossible. You gotta spread those genes after all.

Im in IT and i take my sweet time to open to new people, but im trying to improve. Why? Knowing about IT, this magical science that is EVERYWHERE and making connections, meeting people, will make you look like an angular stone to any woman, like batman if you will. "Oh he is sooooo savvy and charming". Any profession, with the right attitude, can make you look like batman.

If you only focus on your hobby, IT being a hobby for most people, and no kino, no amused mastery, pedestalizing women, the disney plan, guess what? WHAT A GEEK EEEEEEW.

Everything is about how you present yourself
