Everyone knows you’re not allowed to have self-respect unless you’re hot. 🤪

What about in the reverse, when women list those qualities? I had a secretive/overly private ex, who didn’t want to share certain things he felt were too “private”, like how much money he made, etc... we were together 3 years, I only found out his salary 2.5yrs in. (I’m 100% not a gold digger, never asked, but still fucking weird in retrospect). There was just so much more that he kept from me, emotionally speaking, I feel like I never truly knew him bc he kept so much close to the vest. So now …

Such a bs power move- It just reads as “impress me,” like who tf do you think you are that I need to tap dance over here to impress you? Im not gonna insecurely list all the things that make me great just to hope it’s enough for you, stranger.

Why are we even keeping track of past fuckboys?

You’re 100% right, and I’m sorry. I was being too simplistic, and quite pessimistic. I didn’t mean to belittle what you went through, or blame you.

Which has taught me, we are responsible for creating our own boundaries and standards. I no longer blame the man if I fall for this bs, I blame my own damn self for being a pick me.

But he was sooooo vulnerable by saying you were pretty!!! And then you go and insult him by FALLING ASLEEP!? Totally logical. He had to protect his heart, lol.

Oh no. It’s a black hole of male depravity. TRP= “The Red Pill”. Basically a lot of people characterize it as the female equivalent of FDS, but it’s much more extreme. Honestly if anything, FDS is a response to the sort of manipulative male behavior they extol. If this says anything about them, they have been “quarantined” on reddit for their hate speech towards women. While FDS has the goal of avoiding unwarranted pain and wasted energy with men, I would say TRP has a goal to dominate/manipulat…

Totally agree. We are human, and we get connected and it’s difficult to have no feelings when something ends even if it is the right thing to do. The whole name calling of “pickmeisha” has more to do with the lying to oneself and justifying actions that are debasing/ accepting poor treatment to save the “relationship.” You’re not doing that.

I see people dissing this sub all over the place, as the female version of TRP. It’s incredible to me that having self-respect, standards, and a strategy for keeping yourself from investing in shitty partners is so scandalous and triggering for people.

There’s gotta be more to this story! I’m genuinely curious, what was his “bait and switch game”?

Total catch alert. You just sound afraid of intimacy and fear of being trapped in something you don’t want, therefore you have created all of these rules so you don’t get hurt. As long as you’re upfront about all this baggage when you get involved with someone, I guess.

Who even has their “read” and “seen” notifications on anymore!? But I think you can guarantee that after a few hours, everything is considered “read”. Obviously there are exceptions, but most everyone has their damn phone, come on. I’m not advocating needing to hear from someone instantly to be reassured of their intent. BUT clear red flag if they are constantly ignoring you for a day or more.

Exactly. I’m shaking my head at how long this girl kept talking to him after all the red flags. Like, don’t just “haha” him. Tell him to fuck off and block him.

The working on yourself part of it is so you can get to a place where you KNOW you’re good enough even when someone has treated you badly. You have to see that as a reflection of them, not of you. If someone is an asshole, it’s because they’re an asshole not because you’re not good enough to be treated well. Then you set super strong boundaries with people for your bar of how you’re willing to be treated. I know it’s hard not to take poor treatment in the past personally. But you have to learn t…

You say that you’re confident and you like yourself, but when you say stuff like this it’s clear there is some discord in your statements. I struggled with this too, thinking, “I do like myself, I don’t have confidence issues” but deep down I thought I wasn’t good enough. Since then I’ve done a ton of self-work and it sounds like you’re gonna have to learn to be single for a while, cultivate things that you want (strong friendships, learn new skills, etc...) and fall in love with yourself first.…

Gotta say, this is great advice- not only for improving your odds at having a successful relationship, but for being genuinely happy in general. Without this, no romantic relationship will make you truly happy.

If you read the edits, he went to try and apologize for yelling at her and telling her to “fuck off”, and she broke up with him. So I’m pretty happy with that ending.

I think it's easy to tell someone what they want to hear. Also, by asking this early, it comes off as desperate. You don't even know this guy, you shouldn't be trying to lock him down. You should be vetting him hard. So, instead of asking what he's looking for, you can show him what you are looking for by your actions: don't sleep with him until there is a commitment, don't accept last minute dates, etc... (ie: the rules). Furthermore, if you're only texting for the moment, don't get emotionally…

Talk is cheap, and you are basically telling him what to say to get you in bed. You listen and watch their actions, see how hard they pursue you, how they treat you in general. That is how you tell their intentions. Obviously bring it up eventually. But this is ludicrous as a beginning interaction.

Totally! Very useful in determining what you want, and also in identifying red flags right away so you can take action and not make excuses/explain these behaviors away. Especially when it’s right there in black and white that you don’t want this. To be completely honest- even stronger than a list of qualities I want/don’t want, is how I want to feel. That way, if I’m feeling a way I don’t want to feel, I know almost immediately something is off. I don’t waste a lot of time being “confused” abou…

This seems like it would be a great list in the opposite/positive form too- for what you definitely want/demand in a relationship. Epecially if you’ve gotten involved with LVM like this in the past. Good way to vet someone before getting emotionally invested. Basically because I think it’s helpful to focus on what you do want rather than just what you don’t want. BUT I don’t mean that in a critical way, because it’s great you’ve identified what you definitely don’t want in him. There’s def more …

Red flag only if it’s emotionally manipulative or abusive. But here he’s literally responding to your joke. Doesn’t come off clingy to me. But maybe you’re just not that into him? Or what previous commenter said, maybe you’re subconsciously attracted to men who play hard to get?

Anybody else ever watched the show “Snapped”? (Just FYI this is tongue-in-cheek, for those who would ignore the sarcasm).

Actions speak louder than words, so it really doesn’t matter if he says he likes you. A man who wants to spend time with you wouldn’t make you do all (or even most of) the work to make it happen. The only way to truly gauge a man’s interest is to continue living your life and see if he’s willing to put in the effort to see you. Ie: planning actual dates, ahead of time, calling and texting you, investing time and energy. It sounds like he doesn’t want to put energy into a relationship. Don’t fall…
