This reads like a make-or-break moment in the relationship. Never, ever be in a couple with someone who is not willing to make all of the effort to try and understand your point of view in good faith. That is an ability that is necessary to a healthy, fair and equal relationship. Reading your post clearly shows you are making all of the effort to engage with her feminist point of view. If Sirine is not able ble to truly engage with you on this, she won't be either on other subjects, including su…

Seeing the US from Europe, the money thing seems kinda important. American culture apparently pressures men especially hard to spend money on women. Pay for dates, buy gifts, an expensive ring, a lavish wedding, and then lose what's left in the divorce. I don't know why anyone would want to play that losing game. In my culture the only difference between men and women financially in relationships is that men buy drinks to women when flirting at bars. That's basically it. I have never heard of a …

Never forget that feminism is an elite movement for pampered princesses who can study anthropology because daddy will pay for their appartment. It will not attempt to change the culture of the vile lower classes. Garbage men and cleaning ladies are still needed. Chivalry is still necessary among the unwashed masses. They need lower class men to both villify for their machismo and use for their protection. They need lower class women to be "oppressed" so the narrative can endure and to wax their …

Agreed. Political movements have a responsibility to clean their own houses before they can criticize their neighbours.

That's the best explanation I've come upon so far. ID pol allows upper middle class virtue signalers to justify their leadership positions in the movement that's supposed to represent the lower classes. That's the reason I felt green parties were a good thing: in my mind they gave a place to the affluent midde class in the left while leaving space for the bulk of the working class. I did not expect them to become a safe space for extremists.

This is part of the more general problem of the left: they don't care to win, and I don't understand why. In all of the west, the left has been shifting from marxism (or at least the working class) to identity politics, and every time they have done that, it has been poison. The french socialist party's last president is the one who did gay marriage and that was his only "left" achievement. The party is now as good as dead. Jeremy Corbyn was an honest economic leftist but he got torpedoed from t…

The unusual story is fun, but the takeaway is chilling: Anderson had a solid alibi confirmed by sevral witnesses. It didn't hold up against a victim claming to recognise his face. What kind of a justice system is that? How is that "beyond a reasonnable doubt"?

That's why feminists publish in their own periodicals. Gender studies is just a codename for "reviewed by ideologs rather than scientists".

"Women were found to be less likely to work with a mansplainer again than men, who were found to be relatively unmoved by interruptions and condescending conversations." In summation, women ignore "mansplaining" when other women do it, overreact when men do it, and men should be blamed for that. Do they even read their own articles?

It's funny/sad your archetype for cops who care about justice are the characters in "Law and Order". I'm always shocked at how little they care about the presumption of innocence in that show.

Thanks for this interesting insight! I find it striking that we tend to interpret perpetrators of IPH as automatically perpetrator of IPV (at least when men are clncerned). Killing your partner might be a desperate attempt to escape abuse that has become unbearable. There are even calls for that to be legislated as "preemptive self defense" (only when women do it obviously). Are there any studies on the proportion of IPH that were reactive to IPV when men do it?

No, you do not understand. You know nothing about me and my intentions. I'm not rich and I don't live in a place where you can buy a child. We spent very little (though I had to pay fo things that are free if you're a woman). You might live in a place where adoption is an "industry", I don't. It's a government service. A sexist, gynocentric government service. It is entirely out of line to speak of "what you've seen with the LGBT community" and pass judgement like the straights are having childe…

I don't really care how, uterus transplant and c-section, ectogenesis, magic... who cares (just don't change my genitals please). This brings us to the heart of the problem: the infantilization of women. Those artworks and babyish words are downright demeaning. If women identify with this, we as a society have a serious problem.

One factor that I did not dee mentionned and might play a part is negative experiences with schools. We know boys are not treated well by schools. Why would you want to go work in the place that ruined your self esteem in the first place? Many boys can't wait to leave school forever.

I don't understand. The link you provided doesn't really give any hint that "the black pill" is mysoginistic (and there is nothing wrong with nihilism, any atheist is fundamentaly a nihilist). This seems like a perfectly neutral, not at all one-sided article. Joking aside, I'm sure this system is probably not all that wonderful, but I wish I could have a vision of the other side of the issue, one not from a newssource that puts parental alienation between quotation marks as if it was a myth. This has always been my position that parental alienation should be punished severely, and that when parents make abuse accusations during a custody battle the child should be removed from both ho…

I would like to applaud especially the brave and generous women who carry children for those who can't, like myself. They show immense generosity using their biological privilege for those who don't have it. My life has been changed for ever by the arrival of a tiny new life, and the woman who made that happen will forever be the object of my unlimited gratitude. Intersectionnalism is a feminist trojan horse, nothing more. It might be formulated in a way that seems to make sense, but that's just like "feminist is a movement for equality", a lie. What it is really is an excuse to shut up minority men. It's a double edged swords that can be used to dismiss cishet white men outright and exclude gay men, black men etc from their communities by proping up lesbians, black women... instead. You will not find a single intersectionnalist who isn't a radical femin…

This story really is about how euthanasia has become way too normalized in Belgium, as well as Canada, the Netherlands and Switzerland. It was meant for people suffering incurable diseases. Guilt is not a disease. Feelings are not diseases. Remarkable. As a gay man who has had to fight for over a decade for access to reproduction, I could not agree more with this. The open opposition by feminist groups to surrogacy and by the (female dominated) adoption institutions to male adoption feel very much like a cartel protecting a monopoly when you are confronted to it.

Let's not let neofeminists impose their own definitions of terms. "Nice guy syndrome" was originally about guys who are too nice for their own good. Then, just like with "toxic masculinity", they had to turn it into a trial of imaginary evil intentions, because everything relating to masculinity has to be about men being bad. I do not believe for one second there are more men pretending to be nice to get what they want than there are women. I also don't believe in this notion that men feel "enti…

If my kid were to die because of someone's false accusation, I can promise there would be no trial. What's the point when success is so improbable? There would be a small cemetary of unmarked shallow graves in a remote forest. Justice was created in the middle ages to replace private vengeance. It is a legitimate course of action only of it is an effective replacement for private vengeance. Feminists have been fighting to deactivate justice for false accusers. Fine by me. "Gender" originally meant a grammatical mode of language (that does not exist in the english language) relating to the sex of a person referred to. For exemple in french "joli" means pretty (male) while "jolie" means pretty (female). In the 50's-60's sociologist adopted the then obscure term to refer to the social construct around sex. Its use has spread then to the point that many people who don't fully understand it use it without knowing it's a recent creation. "Gender is a social construct a…

The problem is that they've picked an already existing term 'gender' and tried to change its meaning. That's the thing thoug, they haven't. "Gender" as a refeence to sex in its social aspect has been used as a word since around the 60's in academia, much later in general society. Before that it was a grammatical term unrelated to sex. Academics created the term "gender" as we know it today precisely to refer to the social construct around sex. A quick glance at Wikipedia will confirm that. That'…

Touching people is a biologically necessary way of communicting and relating. For some people, such as those with dementia and other neurodegenerative diseases as well as attention deficit disorders, it's often the only way to catch their attention in an effective manner. Societies where people don't touch have higher rates of depression and suicide. A person needs about seven touches a day to keep their sanity. Violence is consubstantial to humanity. We were able to evolve our big brains because we got the extra calories and fatty acids from hunting big game. We were able to conquer the world because we genocided all other hominid species. Humans are violent. Humans have a strong sexual dismorphia because we evolved to have very sex-specific roles. So yes, males are more able to commit violence and other dangerous and physical feats. That's usually considered a good thing. Fending off attackers is a go…

"gender is a social construct" does not mean (by those who understand what they are saying) that biology is to be ignored. It just aknowledges that there is a degree of subjectivity in words such as "men" an "women". For example, you write "adult" but what does that mean? Biologically you're either an adult when you can procreate, around 14, or when you're fully developped, around 25. Yet what we usually mean by "men" and "women" is aligned with a social or legal definition of adulthood, at or a…

But that's not supposed to be the meaning of "toxic masculinity". The term was meant to designate culturally male behaviour that are "toxic" to te people who have them. It was not meant to designate the quality of people who can be harmful to those around them. That use is pure sexism: it genders antisocial behaviour, implying only men (or esprcially men) can treat others like trash. You could think that, and to a small extent I do, but you would need evidence to conclude it had a significant impact Feminism does not hold a monopoly on equality of the sexes, even if feminists love to retroactively designate people who fought for gender equality as feminists. That's not a real suicide attempt then is it? That's indeed my main point. In fact many of the "suicide attempts" accounted for in stats are simple self harm with no intention to even look like suicide. Hospital staff overreports a lot as a policy (better safe than sorry). I remember seeing a study about it somewhere around here quite some time ago. Familied tend to see injuries on men as more "normal" and women communicate more. The "more competent at succeding" line of reasoning to explain men's higher suicide rate contrasted to women's higher attempted suicide rate is very common, but I've never seen any credible source for it. Other explanations are just as believable. For example conscious or subconscious awareness of the empathy gap coul lead more women than men to make suicide attempts as a call for help. Or the tendency for men to access healthcare less, leading to the underreporting of unsuccessful male suicide …

Men were forced to stay, women had a choice. That's blatant discrimination about something huge: life or death. What women chose to do with their choice is irrelevant (unless you see the world in terms of good guys/bad guys I guess). What matters in terms of equality is that some people are deprived from that choice because of their gender. If you don't get the point, it's because you choose not to.

I mean, it could be phrased more delicately, but indeed legalizing, regulating and normalizing prostitution is both an important women's rights and men's rights goal. I followed the thread because the "only 6 countries give equal work rights to women" doesn't seem right at all. The source you provided leads nowhere. At the very least every EU member state gives women equal rights regarding work. It's a condition of access, and is heavily regulated. Actually, it's even the other way round as most European states allow women to retire earlier than men (even though their healthy life expectancy is significantly higher).

It is true women have to pay for period-related products and often for contraception. What is also true and never mentioned ever is that men need to eat more. And that's a lot more money.

Every woman is a stretch, and a misrepresentation, but I believe it's mostly accurate. A stretch because not every woman. It really depends on how many people you know. But if you know or have known directly or indirectly a hundred women, then yes you know someone who was a victim. It's a misrepresentation because it doesn't take into account the fact women speak more about those things. They are more likely to speak about their own experience, and they are more likely to speak about other women…

I wonder if there could be grounds to sue for such things, and in what jurisdiction this would have to happen. The website provides services to European consumers, so I suppose European law would be applicable. Being a very wide public forum, Reddit could be considered a public, not private space regarding free speech. As such censorship outside of clear fundamental values violation could probably be considered a human rights violation and dominant market position abuse. (I'm mostly guessing her…

Most active misandry is non-reactionnary. From the feminazis advocating for a reduction of the male population, to the gender studies "acdemics" cooking the books to hide male victims of domestic and sexual violence, to the politics setting up "affirmative action" against boys in education, misandry is flavour of the decade in the "progressiv" "left".

I don't blame him. The righ to leave your country is a human right, according to article 13 of the universal declaration of human rights. Only Muslims and Jews are circumcised in Europe. I have never heard of health problems related to not being cut, nor of medical benefits of mgm. That would be absurd, why would we have evolved a harmful body part? Sometimes health problems can happen that requires circumcision. Then is the time to cut, not at any time before that. That's how it works: you get surgery after you're diagnosed with a health problem.

I also feel like there’s a lot of encouragement for rape victims to dwell in their suffering, as opposed to moving on. This. Rape victims are being instrumentalized by a movement aspiring to power. "Gendered violence" is feminism's last hope of remaining relevant, they need the victims to suffer as much as possible, to be as helpless as possible. And it's hurting the victims. Almost as if a certain group shot itself in the foot. I blame it all (overstatement?) on lesbians prefering feminism to the gay movement. They have steered it without keeping in mind most women actually need men.

If your lawyer won't appeal, find a better lawyer. One that does what they are told, as is their duty. As a lawyer myself I can tell you one thing: lawyers who look successful and specialized are not necessarily those who are better. There are a lot of pretentious boasters with very little substance in the profession. Ask around, look far and hard, the quality of your lawyer is the only element you have some actual control over in such a situation. My very best wishes to you, facing the legal sy…

Moreover, the general trend in television to refuse any show whatsoever to be mostly about men, even though the opposite is ever more frequent, is starting to be a bit hurtful. Tolkien wrote stories mostly about male characters. He did include a few great female ones (Luthien especially), but for the most part the characters in his epics were male. This is an attempt at rewriting the past. At changing the works of a major author to exclude the idea that a story could be about men and still deser…

Fucking homelessness. This is such an easy and cheapnprovlem to solve (Finalnd and Urah just abolished it) but no. Because it's a men's problem. What they will do instead is open women's shelters under the banner of domestic abuse but where in fact any homeless woman can go, and call it a day. The weakest members of our societies, those who suffer the most, are framed as nuisance, subhuman trash. We spend more time and effort making them go away so they won't ruin the scenery than help them. Hom…

This is a good point. Women in my experience are good at vocalizing their empathy, but when you need someone to actually do something about it, a man might be your safer bet. Luckily for them, there’s no one with an agenda to create a male supremacist narrative out of these stories. I wouldn't go that far. Traditionalist conservatives still go strong in many places. Children need love and stability to grow up functionnal, money isn't the determining factor. The whole concept of child support makes no sense. If you have children, you need to provide for your children. Poor people and single parents do not get "child support" however much the child might need it. It's their responsibility to take care of the child. It's the whole problem with political debate in this day and age: people abuse words, turn them into easy jabs at anyone they disagree with, and they lose all purpose as conveyor of information. Feminists is meaningless, transphobe is meaningless, nazi is meaningless, and now apparently TERF is meaningless too. If we have to define a term for the purpose of every specific conversation , it has lost its practical purpose. We need to stop insulting each other's, it's destroying language.

It really is not cool for trans men that the fact they can potentially give birth is brought up all the time. It's the same as mentioning trans women get boners: trumpeting that they are not cis and carry major attributes of the gender they got trapped in at birth and are trying hard to dissociate from. It makes many of them dysphoric. Let's stop doing that to be "inclusive" of the maybe 5 trans men worldwide who have given birth post transition since the invention of the word "transsexual".

You're right. My words might have been a tad more specific. By definition I meant the legal definition. As a lawyer I tend to forget the legal definition is not "the one and only" definition. From a constitutionnal/humans rights perspective many concepts, such as equality and discrimination, have a precise definition. Equality for example in the continental European use is the treatment of people in a similar situation in a similar way. We are talking legal equality here, not this whole equality…

Although I agree that equality is the mark of progress, a crucial element of it is humility. If you actually believe in equality and are not just using it as a political tool, then you have to admit that your point of view is just one point of view, equally respectable to others. Judgemental ideologies are by definition not equalitarian, because they deem themselves superior. This is the fundamental flaw of liberal democracy and many of its various spawns, like libertarianism or wokeism.

"The Patriarchy" is indeed a conspiracy theory. However patriarchal societies are a thing. The term designates a legal order where the father of a family has a special legal position of authority over children, wife(s) and/or the patrimony. Unequal custody? Because women are expected to be the nurturers and primary care givers. They are expected to give up their future and ambitions to raise a child. Thanks! Glad to be helpful! What kind of work environment discourages smiling?? I kinda got that workplaces in the english speaking world had become pretty oppressive, but to that point is insane. (sorry if I assumed your nationality wrong, if so where ??) I kinda hope you're being overly cautious because smiling is an awesome power. I used to not smile at all before making an effort to consciously do it as much as possible , aaaall the time, and my life is so much better for it. People are nice…

That's such a cool attitude, a thousand thanks for caring! Honestly, most gay men don't ask for much. Don't act different goes a long way. However, there's a few things that may help: Many queer men have been mistreated pretry badly for it, and we can be a bit afraid by roughhousing straight guys. We know friendship and banter go together (gay guys among themselves can be pretty caustic), but with straight men we're never sure if it's playful or if it's going to degenerate into mockery or bashin…

Mixing true things with untrue things doesn't make the untrue true. Traditionnal gender norms hurt both genders. "The patriarchy" is a conspiracy theory. It's the same stupid debate as around the word "feminism". No, you don't need to be a feminist to fight for gender equality, and no, you don't need to believe in "the patriarchy" to see gender roles. The problem with those two words is the same: their meaning is "whatever is convenient to me right now". That's a clever tactic to demonize dissen…

There can definitely be checks and balances I'm curious: what checks and balances do you think there are to the acquisition of power through money? How can the system prevent evil psychopaths with money from buying people's jobs and make their lives hell without their consent? We are both right (or wrong) here, because we're not using the same definition of capitalism. You define capitalism as "free markets and private property". That is the big lie of capitalism. Like when feminism defines itself as "a belief in gender equality". Ther can be free markets and private property outside of capitalism. For most of history, there were free markets and private property without capitalism. The beginning of capitalism is usually traced back to the creation of the dutch Indies…

What did it for me is when I learned that their mods forbid the debate of financial abortion in any way shape or form. No reason given. I get it that some things cannot be discussed in some spaces because they are offensive to the people there, or because they bring in dangerous extremists. But that particular topic is complex and the reasons to exclude it are not immediately clear, which should be reason enough to allow debate of it, even if, especially if, you oppose it. I was a bit puzzled as to why you were getting downvoted that much even though you were debating respectfully and reasonnably, until something dawned on me: you are defending something people here think of as a slur. And then I realized that it is. A derogatory term imposed on a group from the outside can never be well meaning. You are idealizing Europe. We work less, true, but still way too much. Plus unpaid overtime. Plus retiring ever older. And both members of a couple need to work to get by while 50 years ago one was enough. There's a burnout epidemic across the continent. Social democracy is just a painkiller so you won't fight back when they punch you in the guts. Capitalism is non territorial feudalism.

That would be the US or the UK which I would call proto democracies at best. In my country homosexuality, cross dressing or premarital sex were never illegal in the modern age. Antidiscrimination laws are newish, but the freedom to refuse rent was based on the liberal principle of freedom of the owner to do whatever (which still was abusive, clearly). I wouldn't call monogamy a religious thing, all indo european societies have applied it regardless of religion. It's more a social system to avoid…

Of course we're discussing prnciples. I don't expect either of us will change a lawanytime soon. I should probably have written democracy based on human rights I suppose, though I don't believe think one can exist without the other. Freedom of religion is not a question of majority vote, but of inalienable right. Even if 99% of a population believes in a religion, the 1% remaining percent shouldn't be made to live by the rule of the religion of the majority.

As for genes, I meant that you can recognize parts of you in your parents. Looks, some personnality traits, even attitudes... It shows what part of you you are born with and what parts come from your upbringing. It seems important to me. Especially when various conditions or diseases are involved. Same with autism, diabetes, probably ma…

Religion is a personnal matter, and obviously if your religious beliefs makes abortion wicked to you this is your respectable opinion. That being said, in a democratic society, the religious argument can only be personnal. We can never make laws based on religious beliefs, that would cancel freedom of religion, and freedom altogether.

I never thought of it, those laws don't exist where I live. But yes, absolutely. The rights of the children should come above the rights of the parents (in a proportionate manner) when in unsolvable conflict.

I'm a bit curious about this line of reasoning. (apologies if I'm being offensive, there are very few religious people where I live, and none that I know, so I don't really know the line) If the logic is that consciousness is what makes a difference, and that the consciousness of a 10 months foetus is enough to grant it/them human rights; all living creatures with the same degree of consciousness should be granted those rights too, right? That would mean all mamals and birds at least.

Agree with everything you wrote about abortion, it is a human right. Agree too with what you wrote on financial abortion, except a right to anonimity. The right to make your own choices in life is essential, especially the choice to be a parent. It is not a gift to a child to give them an unwilling father. And if society cares about the financial wellness of a fatherless child, society can (and should) provide for them rather than force someone to do so. But having the option to know who sired y…

It's a tough one isn'it? I believe we should definitely have a holistic approach to health, with a coordinating doctor helping us manage all aspects in network with various actors (doctors, dietician, sport coaches etc). If we do that (and some places already kinda do) we could leverage the power of big data in a good way for a change and have fairly accurat estimates of life expectancy, and therefore fair retirement age. I'm conscious however it's a very first world approach. It would only be p…

Your point makes sense, but we can't wait to solve all problems before we solve any problem. Some people die younger because of genetic conditions, some because of their line of work, some because of an accident that damaged their health... No system can truly be fair without taking individual circumstances into account. Treating people based on the group they belong to is unfair, even if that group is "everybody".

Witches are fairy tale monsters, like werewolfes or vampires, which on a few anecdotal occasions were the focus of mass hysteria. At least in Europe. Obviously yes. We're not quite talking about the same thing I believe. As I understand it, OP did not mean the greater good is a bas thing, but that it is often used as an argument to justify unjust individual actions.
/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates20/08/21 05:53 AM

That's a weird way to put it. Capitalism and consumerism cause untold suffering, the subjection of workers, and global warming. Doing the right thing would not be to slighlty change that system without hurting the bottom line, and let workers pay the price as usual. That's indeed "greater good" thinking. The right thing to do for the people who make the decisions would be to give up the very system that's making them powerful. Not sacrifice somebody else.

For the greater good argument are not selfish, they're immoral. When we decide not to judge and individual act on its own but as a part of a "greater whole", what we are actually doing is accepting that bad, unjust things can be done because the end result will be good. The end justifies the means. The error in this line of thinking is that we do not know the future. We might think we know what the consequences of our actions will be, but we don't. Nobody ever does. The last part is reality defying. You cannot both have diversity hiring and be surprised that people will be suspected of being diversity hires. Discrimination only ever produces more discrimination, even with "good intent". I am proud of having the career I have despite being gay. I would be ashamed to have it because I am gay. In Belgium we are pretty fortunate. Equal joint custody is the rule, and judges cannot make an exception without very serious reasons. We also have little to no alimony nowadays. It happens mostly when one member of the couple has reduced or interrupted their career to care for the home and children, and is temporary. The way child support works is a problem. Fathers who did not want children are made financially responsible for the child no matter the circumstances of birth, even if the mother …

So many people telling you what you are or aren't. Sorry. I tend to agree with you, but also not. Movements who want to be heard cannot remain polite all the time. I heard Karen Straughan say in an interview that the most extreme among MRAs have a function: putting us on the agenda.
