Studios and rooms (with roommates) are definitely much cheaper. I have seen many places for $1200 and they give you 6 weeks for free if you sign a 1 year lease. Also, car insurance is super expensive here. Most jobs only offer $15 per hours in Florida. In Austin I will make $60k which is $4k per month. In Florida I made $2000-2500 trying to hustle and it still didn't work. The economy in Florida is build on low paying hospitality jobs.

I'm just done with my tax return. I made $27k gross last year! Working 2 jobs (I don't get full time hours at either)! I'm running out of savings. In Austin, I would be able to work in tech, make more than double that. I would propose daily zoom calls or at least 5 days per week. I would use all my PTO to visit him which would result in at least 8 4-day visits per year. What's your opinion?

It is a 6 month contract, but it should get renewed for another 6 months. That's why I want to petition for 12 months, so I don't have to come back to the court and tell them it's an additional 6 months. I would be looking to find something in Florida after 3 months there, and if I find a job with liveable wage, I would be moving back to FL. I cannot afford to live here, it's too expensive and I don't make enough money (working more than 1 job). My income will be double in Texas while cost of li…

Child support and alimony should have been adjusted in every state to keep it fair.

I would live close to Georgia tech, which is a good but expensive area. it would allow me to ditch the car and save money on fuel and commute time. I still would keep the car so I can drive to Orlando to visit my son (instead of flights plus rental cars). I think Austin might be slightly better for career growth, but you never know. I just have to get 1 job at the time and not multiple offers. My thought is that if I'm overall happier in Atlanta, it will be easier to get another job (people like…

My ex is American and she thought about moving to Jasper, GA with me and she always talked about "Peachtree" a location in/near Atlanta. She's very smart and that makes me think that it's the right decision as well.

I think I would prefer Atlanta. Anything that would be against it (I would live in a good area - Atlantic station)? State taxes suck in Georgia. Anything that you think would be good in Atlanta?
/r/Divorce_Men17/01/25 08:58 PM

What do you think about Atlanta? I am not an American, so my knowledge about Atlanta is very limited. I would dodge Miami (too hot, I don't speak spanish, very expensive) and I would only be 6 hours away from my son instead of 16 hours if I would pick Austin.
/r/Divorce_Men17/01/25 08:57 PM

I'd probably drive the 6 hours from Atlanta to Orlando. Alternatively, I could keep my car in Orlando and fly down to Orlando when I visit my son. That way I don't need a rental car when I see my son. I will be located centrally in Atlanta, so no car needed. Anything else that you think could support my decision to move to Atlanta?

My son is important to me, otherwise Austin might have been the winner. What do you think about Atlanta? I'm not American, so I don't know downsides of places. I would be in a good area of down, wouldn't need a car to go to work. rent would be around $1000. Atlanta is 6 hours away from Orlando, thats worse than Miami (4 hours) but much better than Austin (16hours). Also the climate suits me better in Atlanta. Anything that would support Atlanta or be against it?

I think I might pick Atlanta. Would that be bad? It's 6 hours from Orlando and I like the cooler climate better
/r/Divorce_Men17/01/25 08:50 PM

I think I will just pick Miami because of that. The cost of living are high in Austin and Miami. Atlanta is cheaper but has state income taxes. I could drive to see my son once a month or every other weekend. I'll hate the heat and I don't speak spanish but I guess I'll have to deal with that.

My son lives in Orlando.

I'm sorry to hear that, I hope you'll find a new job soon. Do you think $4k after taxes are enough to live there with roommates? What is a big con for me are the very hot summers. Thank you for your response.

Do you know how Atlanta is? I would like the climate much better than in Austin and Miami.

I don't speak spanish, so i guess that's a no for Miami? I've heard Atlanta is overall cheaper, is that right?

I'm considering Atlanta. Do you think I could live decent on $3750 after taxes? I saw that I can get a room with roommates for $1000 or less in downtown Atlanta.

My income would increase from $2.5 to $4k per month.

So Austin or Atlanta? Iike colder weather, but Atlanta has state income taxes ($3k per year for me).

I've been thinking about Austin for a while (first I haven't had the option to pick, only Austin was offered). I know i have to take the offer, but just the thought of driving to Austin made me tear up. I really love to roughhouse with my son and he does too. His mom has some undiagnosed mental issues that she denies to have (narcissism and probably borderline). She's pretty "cold" to him and she stated multiple times that she hates that our son looks like me (I'm the person she hates most and l…

Child support should stay the same. My ex doesn't work and gets tons of money from her parents. She only cares that I don't get 50/50. I would make $4k per month after taxes in Miami and Austin. In Atlanta, I would make $3750 due to state income taxes. The $3000 difference would make a difference to me and might buy flights from Austin to Orlando, or pay bills in Miami. However, I think Atlanta might be cheaper altogether. I'm taking the job in hopes to get a better paying job in tech after that…

Man, that would be BAAAADDD with 5 kids plus alimony. It would be bad for the kids, her and you. Did you go to marriage counseling? Did you ever have a heart-to-heart conversation with her?

Only exchange the kid where other people are plus video surveillance. Wawa, Walmart are good places for that. She might try to get a restraining order if you meet at places without video surveillance, and she probably would get it because that's how it works

Unfortunately, she is evil as well. She told the judge that I only want to see my son to lower child support payments. She told the judge that I am a danger to my son and that he he almost died with me on multiple occasions, yet he has no scars, no broken bones, not even a doctor's visit with a bruise. Before I met her, there were a couple girls interested in me and on dates with me that I considered out of my league. It might be that I'm a better catch that I think I am when I have my stuff tog…

What are the chances that I will get attorney fees rewarded? I can't afford to get a lawyer for her every year, and if I don't get the fees rewarded, she is going to do something every year. I don't think that she can proof that I would be a danger because I don't do drugs, don't hit the kids, have no criminal records. The only thing she might get is a permanent restraining order because those are easy to get.

Thank you. Yes, she filed a counter claim 😂 she filed it after she refused to let me see my son for months (I think it was 3 months in). She also got a temporary Restraining order against me and she literally is lying in every other statement; yet, she is a woman and the state needs to protect her. What would you do? 1. File contempt of court 2. File a modification of custody Would you do something different or additional?

The case is closed but it was open for about 2 months. So, not nothing. Also, my child's sister said that mom hits my child 3 times per week. my ex said that she first talks to my child, then puts the child in the corner (who does that in the 21st century) and if that does not work she hits the child. It's impossible to know how hard she hits my kid (though I have seen bruises from Mama's hits) but 3 times a week seems excessive. What do you think? That's almost every other day. Sister also stat…

I know someone who worked for Toyota at the Great lakes, good pay and overtime. I'm thinking about doing it as well if I can find something in Florida. I know Toyota currently has a start pay of $22 and you top out at $33. They also offer overtime. Right now I have a remote job, but being at home all the time isn't for me and I am on call on 1-2 weeks per month.

Exactly, it's his house. He probably doesn't even have to pay her for payments made towards house while they were married. File ASAP, the longer you wait the worse it gets for you (money wise, alimony wise, and accusations wise). Maybe set up some home surveillance cameras and pay for extra cloud storage; you would be surprised how she and her parents might come up with the idea of false DV claims when you tell her that you keep the house. In what state do you live? It sucks for most people nowadays. Inflation, rent prices and wages that are too low (especially with kids). Maybe you can find something with roommates and move your stuff yourself? I would not recommend to stay at your home with her, women in America dent to be super aggressive about anything and they feel entitled. You could let her serve you and show you the papers what she exactly wants. Then try to find a lawyer who is willing to review it on an hourly basis (sho…

If you have assets (you do) or kids you need a lawyer!!! She has a lawyer and he will screw you over, no doubt. She could have hired him as a mediator for both of you to keep the divorce fair, but she hired him as her lawyer. She pretty much declared war on you and has her commander in chief ready. Do you want to fight that war as a uneducated pawn against them? Edit: set up some hidden cameras all over the house (if you live in a 1 way consent state) to make sure she can't make up faulty domest…

In Florida 6 is ok for a short period of time and depends on the maturity of your child. Maybe ask your child's pediatrician (they are mandatory reporters as well, so if the doctor things your child is endangered they will report it to DCF).

Amicable is the code word for "you need to be nice to me while I am taking the kids, the house, and the dog. Don't forget to pay alimony."
/r/Divorce_Men24/06/23 05:52 PM

I second that. Get a dog. Also, nothing wrong with a girlfriend as long as it works out. If it stops working out, you just was away if it can't be fixed. Also make sure you understand that you will get screwed if you break up and have kids. (Use a child support calculator from your state and don't forget to put in $1000+ for daycare in the calculations).

She is definitely done with him, and she definitely won't tell him. She might get more out of a divorce when he thinks there is still a chance (why get a divorce if there is still a chance?). The max he could get out of her is being friendzoned (or to be plan C). She also might go back to him if he wins the Powerball lottery ;)

I really hate those pitty posts here! Man, it is over that is why you are divorced! Deal with it. There are almost certainly better options out there for you. Also, get comfortable in solitude, it is the best that can happen to you. You won't NEED someone! Your live will be so much better. Find something that you like to do (reading books, fishing, riding the bike, motorcycling (DIRT BIKE), hiking (in the mountains it's much better, if it is flat call it strolling). I would suggest to get a mediator. Hire him as a neutral person. I know that some lawyers do it. It should't cost more than $5k (you both pay $2.5k and you're good).

Guys, always set up home security cameras in the house to prove your innocence.
/r/Divorce_Men12/05/23 01:30 AM

Exactly. Read the statues of your state. In my state child abuse is a reason to modify custody. I hope that you are in a 50/50 state, such a state might give you full custody.

A lawyer told me that in my state they toss a restraining order in the garbage if she doesn't report it within 2 weeks or has very good evidence. That's the reason I bought I 512GB SD card for my phone; I film everytime when I pick up and drop off my son. My ex is the type of person who would run into the wall and claim that I smashed her head. To everyone here, always try to film drop off and pick up. Cops will believe any allocation; they are just waiting to arrest our dump asses.

Just a couple of things. That you live off grid in a 5th wheeler might not be too bad as long as your kid and you have separate bedrooms. Will she get health related details if you don't agree? I mean that is pretty personal, and even if she could get them you might try to object to the admission of the evidence. You should try to get 50% of the assets that she gets from the house sale. Maybe use the money as a down payment for a home that's not on wheels (just a thought). The thing with your ev…

Careful with the police, in my state they will not arrest a woman if they don't find the man stabbed or shot and they might arrest the men even if the man called the police! Yes, get a hidden camera or better a visible one (so you aren't sneaky). Make sure that you aren't in a 2-way consent state because setting up a indoor camera in those states is a felony if not all parties agree to set up a camera. You are past the point of no return. Women can be really evil when SHTF. Just walk away, don't mind her. Take care of your kids as good as possible. Edit: also, 7 years is a long time for things to turn sour.
