The reason this shouldn't be counted as sick leave is that (for the woman who really suffers during their period) it happens every month (unless pregnant or on hormone blockers) and wouldn't do the women who would need to take a day or few off during that time every month much justice as they would most likely get fired because of the time off. it would be better to compare it to a chronic condition (which I have) and get consideration for it. The problem with this is it only focuses on reported cases, most men who suffer will not report DV, some for the same reasons women don't but for men, there is the added stigma of it being "unmanly" to be abused.
