Sorry to say, I almost guarantee you there is another dude in the picture.

I would get out honestly before any more time passes. It is either that at go through couples therapy to set of that helps at all, but I doubt it will honestly.

Been almost 4 years for me, and it haunts me all the time. Still very broken from it.

That is low man. In my situation, she owned some apartments heading into the marriage that her parents arranged for her, and I could have technically gone after a piece of those but didn't think it was right so just left it alone.

Very sorry to hear that bro, that sounds absolutely awful. I am sure I am the minority, so for people in positions similar to you and OP, it is great advice. All I was trying to say is it isn't always 100% necessary like what was suggested. I am proof of that.
/r/Divorce_Men05/08/21 05:46 PM

Wasnt necessary in my case, if it is amicable you really dont need one. So not entirely good advice, doesnt apply in all scenarios.

Than what is the point in hiring a lawyer then... I mean at some point you have to put some level of faith in them to do these kinds of things.
/r/Divorce_Men14/07/21 06:02 PM

That is crazy man. I luckily got through mine by only paying a mediator and a lawyer I hired to file the paperwork. Mine was fairly amicable though. And I have to pay a hefty some per month in child support but no where near what you are.

Wow... $70k!! And $5k per month? That is brutal man, sorry to hear that.

A marriage is supposed to be a partnership, not a daycare. I know you are worried about what happens to her if you split, but honestly you need to worry about yourself more. Can you see yourself living the rest of your life like this? It sounds miserable. Get an attorney and figure out what the financials will look like (alimony, splitting of debt, etc). You need to get out of this, it is a toxic relationship. You will be doing her a favor, it will force her to learn how to survive on her own in…

Understandable... they try to act like your friend but in the end they don't care about the result that will impact your life forever, only how much they made. A ruling against you f's your life up forever but to them it is just another case closed and on to the next.
/r/Divorce_Men29/06/21 05:29 PM

I mean, you are their father. You get to make the call once she passes. Unless her parents have some level of custody, they have no legs to stand on.

Man that is insane. I have 2 kids. And the best part is the guy she cheated on me with lives with her so I am paying for their house because I doubt all of that money goes toward my kids.

Goes without saying, but you have to muster that energy, now more than ever. Making a wrong move here can cause you financial ruin for the rest of your life. I just don't understand how our current judicial system can allow someone to pay like that when the other party just lives off of it and shows no intention of getting a job. You aren't paying for her to live, she isn't your responsibility anymore yet you will have to essentially support her at a financial loss while she does zero? Hopefully…

Geeze man, I am so sorry to hear all of that. That is ridiculous.. I can't believe some women can do that to someone they spent so much time and memories with. Luckily in my situation she waived alimony but the amount I pay in child support is high. Pretty much exactly the cost of her current mortgage. It will be like a huge raise once that ends. It sounds like you are working with a worst case scenario here. Just make sure you have a damn good attorney because she will go after everything you h…

No problem man, so glad you are heading down the right path! You seem very smart and have a good head on your shoulders. You will get it figured out, kids will adapt over time, everything will work out. You will see! Just hang in there, one day at a time.

40k per year isnt too bad, you should be able to find a home that has enough room for you and your kids, especially if you get a fair amount of equity out of your current home. I would start searching now, because the market is insane. The kids will adapt, you will just have to have a discussion with them and try to explain the best you can without getting into specifics. It may be hard at first, but they will get over it. How much does she make? You might be entitled to child support and alimon…

No offense, but I have to believe there is more to this than her just throwing you out because you aren't the level of athlete she wants.... Either there is more resentment in there, wrong doing, or maybe she has her sites set on someone else. Who knows. But her throwing you out for just that seems a bit far fetched to me.. and if that is truly the reason, then that is complete bs and get out after you get your surgeries done under her insurance.
/r/Divorce_Men29/04/21 04:33 PM
1

Yeah I figure a decent chunk goes towards the actual kids, the rest goes toward her mortgage and god knows what else. I find it hard to believe all of what I pay goes 100% toward the kids. The calculator on cs is ridiculous what it spits out honestly

I guess I am in a similar position is why I asked. I pay a certain amount in child support each month, no alimony. However, I do get hit up on extra stuff - sports, school lunches, clothes etc. I kind of made the same mistake in that it wasnt completely defined as to what the child support would be used for, so I get hit up on the regular for more because in her mind it is something the child support wouldn't cover. It isnt out of hand, and I can honestly say I dont think she is trying to rip me…

His wife just takes the kid and takes off, and you are asking about books? What about calling the cops and making sure the kid is okay?
/r/Divorce_Men26/04/21 06:44 PM

She cheated on you in your own house, get out of it... Dont talk to her unless you absolutely have to, otherwise you are just torturing yourself. There is no coming back from that, in any capacity. Do it as soon as you possibly can.. why August? Surely you can get it done sooner than that. You owe her nothing.
/r/Divorce_Men26/04/21 06:00 PM

What am I missing here... you have the agreement that lays out (or is supposed to) who pays what each month, how debt is allocated, etc. Why are you continuing to be nickle and dimed outside of what is in the agreement?

That is a rough situation my brother. It sounds like your mind is made up, so there is only one thing left to do now albeit it will be painful for you and many other people as well. But it sounds like you know it is the right thing to do, and the sooner you get it over with, the sooner you can start to heal... which trust me is critical. And the pain WILL go away with time, I assure you. I didn’t think that was true when I was in the middle of it like you, but it really is true. It is not easy, …

So she is refusing to sign? How are you holding up? That sucks man. I will say in my situation that part was easy at least, amicable and somewhat fair I guess.
/r/Divorce_Men26/04/21 12:19 AM
2

Yeah I am okay. At the time though, it was devastating... I crawled into a bottle and couldn’t get out for at least a year. I eventually moved out of our house, and hated the place I was renting. But after things finalized in mid 2018, I bought my own condo and have for the most part healed but all of it still haunts me and I often have literal nightmares from it. Makes me not want to ever get married again tbh, it was a horrible experience.

I got on her laptop to look up something and found a Facebook chat going on between them. Then figured out where her 'work conferences' were being spent.
/r/Divorce_Men25/04/21 05:59 PM

Yes, I hear you on that... in my case I make a lot more than she does so I pay a hefty sum each month (in child support) which pays for her house pretty much where the dude is also living. Frustrating

It is extremely hard, I did it 3 years ago. Once you get out and heal, it is great

That is utterly ridiculous man... I hope you can appeal that somehow. Really sorry to hear that... it just blows my mind how and judge in the US can ever consider that to be fair....

I don’t think child support was ever tax deductible? So the change only influenced alimony?

Working together in some or even most cases is not enough to maintain a long term marriage though.
/r/Divorce_Men20/04/21 06:22 PM

Mine fortunately was fairly easy.. only cs and a percent of my work bonuses, but no alimony. Got off a lot easier than most I have read about here. I read one the other day where the guy is only left with 20% of his take home pay after cs and alimony.... ridiculous

I can relate my man... it is the toughest shit I have ever been through by far. But the sooner you can get through it, the sooner you can start to heal. It will be awful for a while, especially since you live with her still. It will be very real once the proceedings start and you live apart. One thing I will say, it is easy for your emotions and want to get through it as soon as possible to cloud your judgement when it comes to the division of assets, alimony, etc. make sure you take your time w…

Sorry to hear this, but why not fight for your kids? Not trying to be nosey, but I don't see how that isn't an option. I just have a hard time imagining how there is any scenario is existence that you would choose that option short of someone being a danger to them.

You asked for advice on the matter. I am here to help, but when I see someone asking for advice on intentionally giving up any and all custody of their children, knowing it is going to mess them up for life, just absolutely blows my mind. No offense, but it is very frustrating to hear. Divorce is awful, I know first hand. And I am very sorry that it is happening to you... but unless you have zero interest in the well being of your kids, then this is a no brainer decision. It might not be the eas…

Yes, as long as it isn't warranted.... so are you trying to saying it is all or nothing with you?
/r/Divorce_Men29/03/21 10:04 PM

Leaving your kids high and dry is selfish. You can't just walk away from that, you have a responsibility. I don't understand how you can even consider that.
/r/Divorce_Men29/03/21 09:42 PM
2

I couldn't agree more. I have twin daughters, currently 9 but were 6 when I was going through what you are. It is very hard and you want the best for them but sometimes the best is moving on and not forcing something that isn't working. I also hit the bottle really hard, not a good idea for obvious reasons.
/r/Divorce_Men23/03/21 12:20 AM
2

Getting back together just for your son is noble but the wrong reason. It is time to move on.
/r/Divorce_Men23/03/21 12:03 AM
2

So I can tell you this and my 2 cents. My ex wife cheated on me, and I have 9 year old twin daughters. I have not said a word to them about it, and I don't plan to until they are much older and can better understand it. Your friend telling his daughter now is a bad idea. There is zero reason for them to know at this stage.

I settled mine with a mediator, saved a ton of money. Just had one lawyer to do the court documents and stuff. But I know a lot cases are not that simple. Getting a good lawyer may seem like a lot now, but can save thousands in the long run
/r/Divorce_Men16/03/21 09:47 PM

I always assumed I paid tax on it before it is automatically transferred to her account? I mean at some point it is taxed... I doubt the government is okay with me lowering my taxable income by $1200 a month.
/r/Divorce_Men16/03/21 03:07 AM
3

Yes completely agree. I guess I never really thought about this. I pay $1200 a month in child support, if the tax burden was shifted that would be a pretty big deal for me.
/r/Divorce_Men16/03/21 12:00 AM
1

So you are saying that if this is rolled back, the receiver will pay the tax on the support instead of the payer? Or is it divided somehow?
/r/Divorce_Men15/03/21 11:22 PM
2

I would demand that half that money be returned. That is bullshit. And obviously lawyer up and fight for this kids
/r/Divorce_Men26/02/21 12:55 PM
2

In my case, we were amicable so the only lawyer involvement we had was for court documentation purposes. Everything else was done through a mediator. That being said, there is a lot of fine print that you need to make sure you understand before finalizing everything because once it is final it is very hard to change things. So tread lightly.
/r/Divorce_Men24/02/21 10:24 PM
3

Just wow.... you have NO idea if any of this is true. Accusing him of being a gold digger and that fund being the only reason for him pursuing her may be completely false and unwarranted. You don't know his reasons nor do you know what their relationship was like. You have nothing but presumption and sounds like you are pretty broken yourself. What a rude comment.
/r/Divorce_Men21/02/21 01:55 PM
1

Good for you! Do the same for all social media that exposes you to her. It will get better man, I was in same boat as you. I am still not completely over it yet, but time heals the wounds I assure you.
/r/Divorce_Men15/02/21 01:07 PM
19

Well for one, stop keeping tabs on her. You are screwing yourself over by watching what she does with this person. Just completely shield yourself from it. Only talk to her when it had something to do with the kids. That is what I have done and it helps a ton.
/r/Divorce_Men12/02/21 01:23 PM
1

Yeah don't do it man. No brainer decision
/r/Divorce_Men04/01/21 11:07 PM
2

Isn't that the truth
/r/Divorce_Men04/01/21 11:06 PM
4

I don't know man... the kids thing is a big issue. If she wants them and you don't, that is a deal breaker. If you are never going to agree on this then no reason to waste each other's time. And don't give into her if you really don't want kids. Easier to not go through the pain and give in, but don't. Kids is a huge commitment in almost every way.
/r/Divorce_Men04/01/21 10:42 PM
1

I am in almost the same exact situation as you, although mine had been 2 years now. But I still feel very lonely and broken.
/r/Divorce_Men08/12/20 03:24 PM

Also needed to hear this. Mine was finalized about 2 years ago and I am still very broken and lost.

Hey man get it out. It is one of the best ways to heal. I am about to make my own post to do the same thing you are.
