I like to take my clippers and put them on a longer setting, but without a guard, and trim my whole face, so now I have some 5 o'clock shadow. Now (especially if you're a bigger guy) take a razer and trim everything from the bottom of the chin down, this will help a lot with contrast and you won't have a double chin if you have one, and if you're fit it'll look a lot neater.
