Dealing with interrupting people

This happened to me at a gathering a few weeks ago. I was invited by this HB8 I've been interested in so I made the time to go. She sits next to me and we start talking. This guy she knows who is sitting across from us randomly interrupts and starts blabbing on about whatever. Not sure if he interrupted or jumped in right whent eh conversation had a pause, but it still happened. Well she started talking with him (nothing serious or flirty or anything).

What did I do? I opened a (harmless) set with two girls who were sitting on the other side of me. We talked and had a few laughs for a few minutes. HB8 finishes her random-ass conversation with the guy and waits until I'm done. We continue the conversation right where it left off. The other guy kinda lingered around but then opened a conversation with another dude nearby.

The trick was to not sit there like a chump and actively engage with the people around me. HB8 realized that I'm not there to entertain her when nobody else is talking, she realized (at least partially) that I entertain myself and she's welcome to join and if not then her loss.

I think it was "Natural Tim" from RSD that said something along the lines of if you ignore them and act like they aren't even registering in your RES(reticular activation system), then it'll have the same effect on the girl you're talking to.

He also has a strategy where he inceptions the girl by saying, "who is this creepy guy?" This puts the idea in her head that any actions from then on will be deemed 'creepy'.

My favorite is to, with a smile and firm eye contact say: "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to interrupt you" to the offender.
