They feel like bad bitches for having basic confidence ...and what's wrong with that?

He's not a klepto, he's an unrepentant thief who finds joy in screwing people over. Edit: what you now know is 1) how good he is at lying and 2) how logically he can rationalize committing a literal crime. I hope for your sake he never has any reason to lie, betray, or otherwise hurt you. Because you will either never know or he will do it, tell you about it, and find a way to make YOU forgive him for it.

I don't want to suggest leaving and be banned immediately. So don't do that. Why not take the dog on a weekend trip and spend time with people you trust? Get their opinion on the situation where your boyfriend who is more than a decade older berated you, slapped you, and slammed your head into a door frame. Talk to your therapist. Talk to your friends. Talk to your family. Maybe take a picture of the swelling so they can see physical evidence of the violence. Don't forget to tell them that "this…

Not to make it political, but McConnell has already stated he'd confirm a justice in an election year now that 45 is president.

Surgery requires both time and money, as well as the mental issues that come with such a huge change to the body. Not to mention the question of whether or not I'll be able to breastfeed after. But yeah, sure. I'll just get surgery. Thanks for the suggestion!

As you are not aware of the modern dating scene, I would suggest you read Marry Him: Settling for Mr Good Enough. The title is crap, but this is recommended reading for how to form good realistic expectations, as well as observe how other women your age act in the dating market (so as not to repeat their mistakes). Thank you! I did read that book, but I think I took things a little too much to heart, and I'm more pessimistic than realistic at the moment. But you're right -- I do have good qualit…

I consider myself a feminist as well and I wholeheartedly agree with this! My favorite "feminist" movie has always been Mona Lisa Smile, specifically because it makes the point that being a free spirit, a career woman or a homemaker are all equally valid choices. No woman is more or less valid than another woman, because we all deserve to be happy and follow our dreams. The "men suck, SAHMs are stupid, and women should rule the world" mentality seems more like misandry than feminism to me, and i…

Thank you! I keep reading that "women have unreasonable standards," but nobody ever mentions what standards they're talking about. What you're saying definitely makes sense.

Thank you for the positive story and the helpful advice! I definitely agree with your last point. I have very few non-negotiables, but one of them is financial stability. The reason I have that instead of a certain income, credit score, or amount of money in the bank is because things can always change, and financial stability is important whether you're earning 40K or 400K. The hypothetical artist > engineering student is a perfect example of this.

Congratulations on the engagement! I'm very happy for you. It's great to hear that positive things can still happen. I'm hopeful, but still staying realistic about my chances.

Thank you for that! Because I've never dated, the "unrealistic expectations" are exactly what I'm afraid of, but you're right I can't really judge my standards yet, since I haven't really been using them for anything. And I appreciate the health advice! I recently bought an exercise bike, so I've been doing that for at least 15 minutes a day for the past few weeks. Trying to make lifestyle changes instead of just dieting on and off.

Thank you so much! I have always been realistic, which is why I'm approaching dating this way. I will try to have faith in the process.

You are the homeschooler of the dating world I can't stop laughing at this because of how accurate it is. And I appreciate the comment. "Don't settle but don't value dumb things" is really good advice.

Thank you. I have always enjoyed (and been good at) making men feel good -- by building them up, supporting them, complimenting them, etc. So I hope that I'll be able to show that side of me once I increase my SMV and start dating. And I appreciate the comment about not losing myself. I tend to become very single minded when I have a goal (good in my career, not so much for this), so I'll try not to lose sight of the long run. You're right, it doesn't make sense to change myself to fit someone, …

not sure if you read the red pill lol that's why I've lowered my standards into the ground and gotten rid of the "list" I made as a teenager who watched too many romcoms. I know from reading TRP, RPW, and other dating sites that I don't have that much to offer as an overweight woman over 30. I already have a plan to lose weight, grow out my hair, and practice my cooking, but reading the comments on this post has made it clear that my lack of confidence is something I really have to think about i…

I do wear skirts and dresses, although my weight definitely plays a role in how comfortable I feel in feminine clothing. But I did recently buy a few pretty printed dresses to wear now that I'm working from home. This isn't my area of expertise, but even I can tell that wearing sweatpants all day every day is not the best way to maintain a feminine mindset. And, I mostly have a bunch of cheap, utilitarian bags at the moment, but my present to myself when I hit 150lbs is going to be a nice femini…

Changing my weight, state, political views, and chosen career for a man is simultaneously my biggest fear and what I think I'm going to have to do in order to get married. I can't imagine being happy in that situation, but it sounds like you are, so congratulations. I'm very happy for you and I wish you well in your relationship. I only hope that I can learn to be so accommodating.

Thank you for the advice, and especially on that list of characteristics about myself. The things I'm trying to change right now are things I've always disliked about myself, but have always been too focused on my mother's happiness to change. Now that I'm older and working on myself, I'm finally addressing them. And the 3 outfit suggestion is genius!

Thank you. My mother pointed out the importance of a list so that I don't waste time dating someone I'm not going to marry. So really it's just a short list of compatibility dealbreakers -- religion, addiction, unreasonable debt. And I'm definitely working on myself right now. Quarantine seems like the perfect time for it.

I mean, I know I'm not perfect, which is why I've tried to lower my standards as much as possible to avoid disappointment. But it's good to hear that nothing I've said is a dealbreaker from someone in the age bracket I'm interested in. Thank you!

Thank you! I know I sound negative. But I've been working on my weight, hair and nails for a feminine outside as well as doing therapy and Bible reading for a more feminine inside. Hopefully that helps.

Thank you for this actionable, measurable advice! 10 different dates before exclusivity is something I think I can accomplish, or at least I will be able to after I lose the weight. And I appreciate the comment about respect. Before my dad died, my life was full of strong, respectful, traditional men. And those are the kind of men that I respect. I've been trying to come to terms with the idea that I might not marry a man like that, but you're right that it would probably be a terrible experienc…

Thank you for the advice. Since I'm used to only spending my time with my mother, I don't necessarily have much of a social life -- just work, gym, home, and occasionally church. But I'll definitely look into more activities when quarantine ends. And I have accepted the trade offs. As a teenager, I had a "perfect husband" list a mile long. Now it's 3 points because I know I don't have a ton to offer. But I'm already exercising and in therapy. So hopefully ill be in a better place mentally once I…

You have a point. I have always been a planner and very goal oriented. It is difficult for me to now try something that doesn't have obvious steps and results. I'll try and open my mind to be less rigid about my thinking. Thank you!

Thank you. I have always tried to be kind and to care about other people. It was just surprising to go online and read all these articles and reddit threads about how men dating for "personality" was a lie and how in reality they're only looking for thin virgins who just care about cooking and cleaning. I don't mind changing myself to fit into that ideal, but it is nice to see that my actual personality is something that a man might find appealing.

I don't look down on people who are shorter than 6 foot or make less money than me, nor am I saying those qualities are inferior -- I was just being honest about my hypothetical, obviously never going to happen, dream husband. As someone who has never been on a date, if I could marry anyone in the world, that's who it would be. Like men who would sleep with nothing but 20 year old virgin models if they could but don't necessarily look down on other women. Apologies if my honesty hurt your feelin…

I have promised myself that I will not settle and that will be that. I hear that...but I also don't want to be single and miserable in 20 years because anything less than "perfect" is settling. You're definitely right about the happiness thing, though -- there's no sense staying in a relationship that doesn't make you happy. That's the one thing that isn't negotiable. Thank you!

I see your point. Because I didn't date in high school or college, I have no firsthand experience with it, so I've been reading "dating advice" articles and watching youtube videos trying to see what I need to do now that I'm entering my 30s. "Lose weight and lower your standards" seems to be the general consensus, but it's possible that I've been looking at the wrong things.

any other style recommendations for these types of activities? Dresses! I have a couple of t shirt dresses that are basically my "outside pajamas." They require absolutely zero effort, and when I pair them with a nice pair of sandals (or boots, depending on the weather) and a pretty purse, it looks like I actually thought about my outfit, even if I've thrown everything on half asleep.

Not to the same extent, but they remind me of Beyonce and Jay-Z. Both rich and talented artists separately, but the influence they have as a power couple is undeniable. How much money did Beyonce make off of the "being sexy to keep her man" album (Beyonce)? And then the "fuck my man because he cheated" album (Lemonade)? And then the "we're back together" album they made as a couple (Everything is Love)? It's more than worth it to stay in a marriage like this when it's beneficial -- see FDS rule …

Nail polish/press-ons! They're relatively inexpensive and if you buy polish it practically lasts forever. What I like about keeping my nails done is that I can see them. Wearing a pretty dress or nice makeup or having my hair done is great but when I do my nails and they're nice and long and healthy, I can look at them during the day and feel like a pretty feminine lady even if it's quarantine and I've worn the same shitty sweatpants 3 days in a row.

If makeup is a no-go, I'd suggest focusing on your skincare, getting your eyebrows shaped on a regular basis and using an eyelash curler for long lashes and wide eyes. Also, make sure your hair and nails are done, and your clothes look nice. That way the lack of makeup looks intentional -- like you're deliberately going for a more natural look.
