Normally I actually like BBC as general news source, but it's so frustrating seeing articles like this which are clearly written with the approach of 1) Have your agenda/narrative bias you want to push, 2) write literally whatever you can come up with to try to push it. Real journalism should be at least "hey let's look at both sides of this and see where the truth lies in this nuanced world we live in." Sadly this article reached absurdity almost immediately. For instance, this part: Our socioe…

Yes it’s real, until 30s when lifestyle choices come into play (reduced hours, etc), women out earn men when things like education and experience are held equal.

Fully agree. It’s nothing more than intentionally inflammatory and an extremely disturbing slogan. They pretend it’s in relation to abortion but by doing that they’re only hurting their cause because they’re agreeing with feminists that it’s an issue of control over women’s bodies and not a moral question of life in the womb. Absolute idiots and a shame to see such things in this sub.

Thanks. I was more curious who was saying it. I was hoping that it was from some fringe feminist, but seeing it was the Ministry of defense is incredibly disheartening.

Interesting to see things like this or “soft quitting”, which BBC also did a profile on a couple months ago that was also about young women gradually doing less and less at their jobs because they wanted an easier or stress free life (and also led by female TikTok influencers). Definitely seems like a privilege to me they can make such lifestyle choices. Also funny how this article still ends by saying they hope the fact that these young women are able to quit their jobs and live comfortable liv…

Tough to make an argument that either wing is better. Although I’m also more left wing, it’s hard to deny that on the right, at least you’re not shunned for mentioning the existence of men’s issues.

From this article alone, seems like really great news and important progress. Of course, the end is a little frustrating that they still are afraid to help men just for the sake of helping men (and instead have to reassure citizens that this is for women’s benefit), but alas, still hopeful.

Like in literally any sub, there are going to be people here with problematic views. I’ve not seen any reason to believe this is an “incel sub” (not even clear what that would be), but I will say that if you believe feminism is important for men’s rights, you are going to feel challenged a lot here. Modern mainstream feminism is blatantly and unambiguously anti-equality/anti-man. Granted this is in western countries, so if you’re not from there it’s understandable why you may not see it that way…

Nope, you’re wrong again I’m by no means extreme right. Not sure what point you’re even trying to make by trying to use the same analogy. If someone has an opinion where they’re opposed to abortion, that’s completely different than saying “your body, my choice”. They’re not even in the same universe, and I think you know that assuming you’re not a complete dunce. The whole point of the phrase is to be controversial and provocative, don’t insult your own intelligence by pretending it’s some good-…

I completely agree that in such cases, it really is tragic for the father/man in that situation, and it is unfair in a sense that he doesn’t have a say. But this is one of the situations where we have to acknowledge that life is indeed unfair sometimes, and there’s no realistic way to fix it, because as I’ve said and I’m sure you’d agree in a vacuum, it’s just not humane to force someone to carry out a pregnancy against their own will. Instead, use this as a talking point and a retort for the pe…

That’s a disturbing premise and I’d advise you to think things through better, or at the very least don’t ever try to suggest anything you just said is apart of men’s rights. What you’ve written is not even remotely close to “the path to equality” and you’re going to hurt the movement with that kind of poorly thought out and uncouth rhetoric. Your last paragraph is also showing you don’t know the difference between pregnancy and conception. Edit: to address your argument, which again is poorly c…

Completely get where you’re coming from, but it’s just simply not a path to go down to force someone to carry a baby and give birth if they don’t want to. Financial or other compensation doesn’t change this. The men’s right movement is always mentioning the unfairness of selective service and draft requirements (rightfully), so it’s absurd to simultaneously suggest forced pregnancies.
/r/MensRights14/11/24 02:44 PM
13

Sure, such situations are really unfortunate for the men, but this is not the type of case that should be focused on when trying to improve men’s rights. Because what’s the only alternative, forcing someone to bear a baby and give birth? Absolutely ridiculous premise. Instead, just frame it as one of the fundamentally unfair parts of life, which each sex faces in different ways.

Why do you Americans have to adopt Trump’s incredibly oafish habit of using stupid childish nicknames. Just call her Kamala otherwise it makes it look like you have the mental capacity of a 10 year old (saying this as someone who mostly agrees with your first paragraph).

Saying “we have problems too and would like them at the very least to be acknowledged” is not playing victim. And it’s also not limited to men on the right. Genuine question: why do you come to this forum if you’re only going to make poorly thought out scarecrow “arguments”?

So the two that you gave some source info on (Cornell and HP) are basing off small sample sizes from one small group of elite students and one company. Quite a stretch to try to apply that these findings to 8+ billion people. I also only came across a Forbes and Atlantic article on them so it’s hard to actually assess the methodological approach used for these. But also none of these things you listed say anything about lower competence levels for men, nor do they support your statement of “men …

I agree it can be noble, but I think the issue with that one would be an implication of someone not being masculine if they aren’t willing to sacrifice themselves in such a way. An example would be in Ukraine: are the young men who left the country to avoid being drafted not/less masculine? Perhaps in some cases but definitely not all, especially in a context where young able-bodied women (maybe even more so than some men) are completely free to leave with no stigma or shame.

Just so you know, the whole “fewer women are in STEM” is an entirely politicized statement and is factually incorrect. The term and people who use it intentionally exclude all the science fields where women are the majority to make this fake statistic that is catchy and easy to spread. Things like biology, neuroscience, veterinary sciences, nursing, medicine, psychology - all obviously sciences but not included in “STEM,” because if they were then it would show women are in fact the majority. Similar experience where I work. I’m any room I’m in there’s at least 4-5 women for each man (and I don’t working in a traditionally woman-dominated field). It’s the result of very overt biased hiring practices. Hiring more women is the open “strategy”, which they make good on since I have seen statistics that show more men are applying, yet women are hired in a 60-40 or 70-30 majority. It’s led to (or comes as a result of) completely normalized sexism (if it’s against men). I had a female colle…

Standards related to ambitions and attitudes/habits would be a lot more understandable rather than just “must have decent job”. Men can be down on their luck with minimal support system, or early on in their career and not meet this standard, hence why it does give the controversial “gold-digging” attitude. You really like referencing vague and irrelevant things don’t you? “Some newer people would point to 2010” Ah yes, 2010, touché what a great point. But no, despite this super convincing piece of evidence of 2010 in general, you’re still not correct. “The UN” isn’t even a single entity, it’s a system of different agencies, all with individual mandates, so by definition it’s wrong to say “UN is a feminist organization”. These people just make up hypotheses and then state it as fact. I’ve noticed that’s a huge part of feminist rhetoric. Wonder what the author based their idea on that “powerful” men receive disproportionate levels of sympathy. Sounds awful hard to prove that scientifically. Maybe they could compare sentences for men vs. women accused of the same crime? Ah no, worse for men, no bonus sympathy there. Maybe the level of attention and resources dedicated to missing men vs women? Shit no, worse again …

Well the first one you linked doesn’t seem to be so popular. It is quite funny though, with a title “I hate most straight men” and literally only making it three sentences in until she says “they don’t know what it’s like to be hated just for being who they are”. Comedy writes itself sometimes.

Another commenter already briefly mentioned it but sexual violence against men and boys in conflict-affected areas is a big one that really doesn’t get the attention and resources it deserves. The UNHCR recently published a report on it in relation to Syria, and there are some books focusing on a few African conflict areas. I know you’re a troll, but in case someone else needs to see the answer, it’s not that it’s an attack on men, but rather it’s just another example for the prolific trend of viewing all issues as women’s problems, and allocating resources and attention accordingly, even in situations where men are affected worse. The essence of feminism: everything based on feelings and subjective assessments of what is or isn’t important. Not enough women CEOs, or women feel unsafe outdoors? Wow that’s great. It’s sad a “victory” is a large company merely acknowledging the existence of the problem, but I’ll still take any positivity I can get. Edit: looked through their profile and it was a really nice and balanced approach. They really focused on the problem for what it is instead of making it a “woman’s issue that happens to affect some men too” like almost every other entity does. Really refreshing to see I think I’ll buy Levi’s next time I need jeans.

That’s hard to believe someone who served in Afghanistan could be so unaware of the Taliban. On the other hand there’s no intelligence test to serve in the military so it’s definitely possible. But yeah, keep living your life thinking you’re brave cause you can go to zoos without being afraid and comparing yourself to an Afghani woman meeting someone from an organization that would beat her for not wearing a scarf back in her home country. It’s hilariously sad. And yeah, definitely a feminist tr…

Dude, you clearly don’t know who the Taliban are. The point I expressed is exactly the one I intended, and it’s only a minority of dunces like you who don’t get it. It’s pathetic you compare yourself visiting a zoo to meeting the spokesman of terrorist group that executes people for minor things in the most brutal ways.

It says he didn’t make eye contact with zero mention of this being harassment. Literally all you’re doing is creating strawmen and making up hypotheticals and whining about those. You’re wasting your time and making the rest of us look bad.

No one except the OP said not making eye contact was harassment. Stop making this shitty strawman argument that makes more rational men opposed to feminism look bad. The Afghan woman is just mentioning how it felt confronting the spokesman of the group which beat, stoned, and executed women for things like going to school or not wearing a scarf. I swear it’s like people here don’t know what the Taliban is.

That really sucks. Things like this and personal experience make me strongly recommend seeking male therapists whenever possible. Even if a woman therapist says upfront she focuses on men’s issues, most likely this will be through the typical feminist lens. It means they’ll see your problems as your own fault ( ie “toxic masculinity” or “the patriarchy”) and approach it this way. They want to treat you as a defective woman, someone who just needs to stop being “toxic” and your problems will go a…

Come on, this is a really weak take. You realize this is a spokesman of the Taliban right? As in the ones who brutally enforce Sharia through beatings and executions. Being intimidated standing in front of them is completely legitimate. It’s so easy to find and point out the flaws and dangers of feminism, this is a huge miss unless you’re actually trying to compare yourself to the Taliban.

Can you give a single example of a social norm that discourages women from stem or stigmatizes it for them? Say in the last 20-30 years. In this same period, boys are being disciplined and graded more harshly for the exact same work and shamed for nothing but their gender. There was a comment in there that really encapsulates one of many things I find so disheartening. Responding to you saying feminists don’t do anything for men, they wrote: “This is not true. The feminists I admire insist that patriarchy hurts men too.” As if victim blaming men with the imaginary boogey man (and then not doing anything further) is something great and to be appreciated.

It’s fucking infuriating. Homeless men have it worse both quantitatively (vastly outnumber homeless women) and qualitatively (die far more than homeless women) and even in the face of undeniable facts, they’re still put last. These poor guys have such a hard life already.

And why dig your heels in so hard to defend a movement that sees you as dispensable? “Why use a term that defines all women instead of just using a term that defines the group you are upset with?” The latter is literally exactly what I’m doing. Because it’s only the “exact” same thing for people incapable of understanding nuance and context. What is the word “feminism” derived from? Femininity. “Attacking masculinity as a whole is attacking men. But you feel attacking femininity as a whole is attacking just feminists?” Yes, exactly. Because again, they named their entire movement after femininity, so it’s appropriate to use their own label to call out the toxic elements. It’s pretty clear it’s not an attack on the entire gender with this context.

Agreed. It’s nice that mods are not so sensitive and ban-happy here as in the feminist subs. Debate and alternate perspectives are really important for growth. I get your point and wish I could agree but I see a few big differences. They named their entire movement after femininity, therefore I think it’s appropriate to use this same label they chose themselves to call out the toxicity when it so often presents itself. Not only is her response unprofessional as a therapist (blaming victims), it’s rooted entirely in an unfiltered bias she has that is purely ideological and detached from reality. Looking at virtually any crime statistic easily proves it wrong, eg men are far more likely to be victims of violent crime by a stranger. Q1: most men and women who are seriously involved in men’s right issue don‘t engage in this „oppression Olympics“ or race to the bottom which is prevalent in modern feminism. It can’t be said objectively whether one sex is worse than the other. Considering „the patriarchy“ is just a mystical boogeyman to blame all societal problems on just makes it impossible to take any of this seriously. To be honest, if you believe in equality between sexes then wouldn‘t calling yourself an egalitarian be a more appropriate label? There is no such thing as a „patriarchy“ and those who do as you are and try to say it’s the cause of men’s suffering are victim blaming. This very post is a perfect example because it’s feminist frameworks that created this problem of men not being as seen as victims of DV. Indeed, though I think it was very intentional on her part to leave the "analysis" so shallow, since even the Harvard Business Review survey that she links herself doesn't really say support what she said it did. I know, I had no idea until I got to grad school. It’s really the last 10-15 years there’s been a big change.

Mind sharing a couple examples? And unfortunately that isn’t a comfort haha. Sad indeed.

Yeah fair question. I had no idea it was a woman-dominated field until I got to grad school. It’s shifted in the last 10-15 years so it’s not what comes to mind for most people in that regard. Plus I never would’ve imagined discriminatory polices like that would be allowed in any industry in the 21st century.

I’ve not heard of CRNA, Is that nursing? That would be a very gratifying line of work to go into (good pay sounds great too), though I’m not in the US and I’m not sure how mandrakes it would take to switch to that.

Thanks. I think it’s important to be understanding when anyone talks about sexism they face (I’m sure most of us here do). Honestly though, I think discrimination against men has been systematized whereas women face it primarily at an individual level by ignorant people. I’m very skeptical if a woman says she’s discriminated against in a systematized way. I know I have a bias, but I can’t imagine any organization in the last 30+ years actively seeking to recruit more men, let alone when they alr…

I also work in a woman-dominated field and it’s making me lose hope. Sexism is both official, like hiring strategies that explicitly aim at hiring more women despite them already making up 65-70% of the workforce (this is across the biggest organizations in the field), as well as unofficial like unchecked sexual harassment by women in more senior positions. Most days I’ve lost almost all passion and motivation for the line of work, but I’ve invested so much to try to get into this field and have…

It’s a shame you’re getting downvoted, but to answer your question, yes some people would listen while others will definitely antagonize you for it. But the more voices on these issues the better.

Why are you complaining about too many „feminism related posts“ on a post that isn’t about feminism?
/r/MensRights22/01/21 04:01 PM

I guess you didn’t look at the OP? The linked site of the COE is about sexism, not feminism. And it is absolutely an issue of men’s right when organizations and people refuse to even acknowledge that men are discriminated against based on their sex (while simultaneously propagating sexist language like „mansplaining“.

I find it quite amusing that their first example of sexism is „63% of women journalists have been confronted with verbal abuse“. Compare this to the infamous UNWomen tweet about 19% of journalists killed being women, indirectly showing 81% of those killed are men. Is verbal abuse against women worse than men literally being killed (not to mention considering how often male journalists face violence verbal abuse would also happen at a very high rate)? Why the hell use journalism as the first exam…

I just made it to the second question and clicked out. When the question is „Who is affected by sexism and sexist behaviour?„ and there’s literally zero acknowledgement of men in any of the given „answers“ that just makes it reason #6371 to know this is pure garbage.

Pretty pathetic you don’t see a difference between riots of last year and armed mobs violently storming America‘s seat of government while openly calling for the death of the politicians they were searching for. Though actually I’m pretty certain you can’t be that dense as to not see the difference. You just have your agenda or propaganda you like to spread. This is a forums for men’s right, get out of here with that shit.

She is like a stereotypical evil teacher from a movie: „"I always tell the boys, ‘You’re going to have a turn,' and I’m like, ‘Yeah, when hell freezes over’ in my head,”“ Can teachers in America get fired for open sexism like this? Sure it probably happens all the time, but this one actually bragged about it in the news.. hopefully she loses her job over that.

As bad as the post is, what you’re saying never happened. There is no UN “human rights board”. There is the Human Rights Council that is made up of a rotating list of 47 countries. It definitely has a lot of flaws but this is a common misconception floating around.

That’s the biggest reason? Little girls are being socialized in the idea that they don’t belong? Socialized by being systemically given better grades than boys? Or attending university at higher rates? Why are there fewer women in STEM in the most progressive and egalitarian societies like Norway and Sweden than in Iran?

Equality is so great. Similar thing happened to me. I applied for a position at an organization where a (female) friend works. I mentioned it to her saying I applied for the XYZ department, then she looks apologetically at me and says “oh XYZ department? They only hire women there...”

Exactly. America is one of the only countries in the world that practices it at a widespread level. Originally it 20th century it was promoted to prevent masturbation and improper sexual behavior. Over time it just became an accepted and normal practice that was falsely justified as being “more hygienic” or “safer” regarding diseases, but the evidence for this is weak or non existent.
/r/PussyPassDenied22/08/20 04:49 PM
4

I repeat: you’re misinformed. For one, “improper hygiene” is not at all a justified reason for genital mutilation. A man needs only to pull his foreskin back and use soap to be fully hygienic. Second, you’d be better off leaving your third argument as forgotten, since it’s also a total sham. From cancer.org: “ In the past, circumcision (removing the foreskin on the penis) was suggested as a way to lower penile cancer risk. This was based on studies that reported much lower penile cancer rates am…

You’re misinformed. For one, you said “to name a few” when you only gave one justification (less likely to catch diseases/infections). And even this is not fully true. For instance, “The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) male circumcision policy states that while there are potential medical benefits of newborn male circumcision, the data are insufficient to recommend routine neonatal circumcision.” There is some evidence that circumcision can have very modest effects of reducing std infection…

When feminists try to make a point but end up illustrating a series of moments that would actually make most men feel really good for once

Given your extreme anger and aggression, I know your questions are rhetorical and you absolutely don't care to learn about the struggles that men face, not when women are given equal rights, which is something this sub advocates for, but rather when women are systematically and institutionally given advantageous position. But if you ever are willing to approach this with an open and less hateful mind, then I would direct you to the side bar or some of the top posts here. As we saw during the BLM…

You either misread the post or are hilariously proving the post to be true by not knowing what “equality” means. This sub would love for both men and women to be treated equally. Why do you have such hatred and anger for men who want real equality?
/r/MensRights30/06/20 05:30 AM

In my opinion, it’s quite likely that in this one very specific type of situation, it is indeed better to be a man. I do not doubt it if we feel a little more at ease running alone early morning or late at night. The problem is, feminists and society as a whole take these very particular situations and insist that it means in ALL aspects of life they have it worse. Bringing up any issue faced by males is either 1) a lie, 2) men’s fault (“the patriarchy”, or 3) not that bad and we shouldn’t whine…

Not that I would want to see a similar article trashing “literally all women” since this type of article in general is trash, but I can’t imagine any site doing it without being labeled a misogynist website.

/r/MensRights27/06/20 09:58 PM

Yeah, younger men, who never played a role in systematically discriminating against women, must make “sacrifices” (eg be jobless) so that younger women, who never faced any systematic discrimination, can benefit and be on top. I can never understand how feminists advocate for this and pretend that it’s “equality”.

Sadly this is quite common. Where I work (in a different industry) the make up is about 62% female 38% male, yet the HR strategy explicitly says recruitment of women is the top priority.

Regarding making an impact, maybe writing an op-Ed or something that doesn’t tear down feminism but raises awareness for men’s issues? Not really sure where that kind of thing could be submitted to though.
