I have no proof either way, but I suspect that if one conducted some kind of survey, males would in general choose to protect females from rape over other males. No idea what the women would do. I mean it makes some sense from an evolutionary perspective too, with males historically competing for females. The extent to which it may be "hard wired" in the male brain vs. a cultural or social condition is hard to ascertain.
