A lot of large cities have 24 on/48 off schedules, with certain days each month you don't have to work, plus vacation/sick days. With seniority, it really starts to add up. An even crazier schedule is 24 on/72 off, plus the vacation/sick days. Firefighters have it very, very good if they find the right department.

This is true for the most part, but there are careers that have lots of time off. My uncle is a firefighter, only works 85 days a year and goes on lots of vacations. I'm trying to get into the Merchant Marine and they generally get 6 months off a year to do whatever they want. Then obviously there are jobs that can be done remotely. If you budget properly and/or go to cheap places, traveling doesn't have to be expensive.

I would say it depends on your major and what career you're looking to get into. A bachelor's degree isn't necessary to be successful (although our society keeps trying to convince us otherwise), but it can definitely help depending on your career goals. The jobs I applied to had a base salary and benefits. Usually people that want 100% commission have experience. There are entry-level sales jobs like that, but they're usually bullshit and should be avoided if you need money right away.

I have a somewhat similar story to this guy. Just turned 26 with about 3 years of college and up until recently my only work experience as a part-time mail clerk. Those are some pretty shitty qualifications, but about a month ago I started my first real job as a Carrier Sales Rep at a 3PL. $35,000 base + commission, healthcare, 401k with match, etc. If he's open to it, I'd strongly suggest trying to get a job in sales.
