The American Midwest, which is not an easy place to thrive for anything (except my job)

I know, I love the clothes that feel like me and make me feel good. Yet I’ve been busy at my job and I miss my time to dress and prep, but I’m busy at my job, and I wear scrubs and hardcore PPE daily! It’s hard to date and look like I want to with a demanding career.

When I was 18 I dated someone who was 26 and worked as an aide in the Irish equivalent of parliament or congress. What the hell was he doing? It's so predatory in hindsight. I thought he was the greatest thing ever and I was lucky he was "dating" me back then. So naïve. To be fair though, if you're 18,18 year guys aren't much better than a 25 year old guy.

The guy who described his brother’s incident went to Harvard law to boot.

Doesn't share incredibly personal stories about people they know on the first date. I've had dates where guys have described their ex's genitals + their mother's pubic hair (same guy), how their brother drank too much and almost died choking on vomit, and the time their buddy ate someone's ass in a porta potty. Firstly, not their stories to share, its a gross violation of someone's privacy. Secondly, they will likely share your personal stories to others.

In a perfect world everyone would reject porn because of its objectifying, exploitative, and dangerous nature. There should be no human cost to an orgasm.

When I was 13 I took my first solo flight. The guy in the seat next to me started placing his hand on my thigh and smirking at me. I just froze and his grip tightened. Thankfully some turbulence shook his hand loose and I placed my backpack over my lap for the remaining 4 hours. I was terrified. These creeps have no shame and no consequences. I’d make a post on social media that gives an objective telling of what happened. Let the truth speak and let people know what happened. It’s never the fir…

This was one of the defences main arguments at my sexual assault trial. They tried to have a gag order placed on me so I couldn’t tell anyone who didn’t already know what he did. That was denied because WTF!

I have friends who model boudoir and such. I don’t judge them for it because whatever their reasons, whether it’s for attention or empowerment, men will look at women as objects. By claiming interpretive sovereignty over what you want to do, that is resistance, even if it is only acknowledged by yourself. The problem is that people will treat women differently if it’s easier to sexualize her (among other endless reasons). In an ideal world, nobody would be maligned for how they chose to present …

I was diagnosed with BPD in a ER at 18 having just cut contact with my devoutly Catholic parents, was functionally homeless, and in a very dark place. Guess what? Those symptoms resolved when I got back on my feet and a decade later I think labelling a young girl in distress as “borderline” was irresponsible and lazy.

In theory this seems like a fair strategy. But in practice it’s rarely equitable, especially in relationships. The exception to this (personally) is when I’m dividing a workload with my female friends.

This sub is threatening to some men because they find security and identity in the naturalization of oppressing women. “Guys have needs” for example, implies entitlement to woman’s body for sexual gratification and a frustration when that body denies access. This sentiment is believed by some to be innate to the XY chromosome and thus justifies horrible things, from cheating to rape, and on and on. But it’s not innate, people will survive without a (female) body to gratify them sexually. So when …

The one day I skip my makeup routine, my thesis advisor walks in and immediately comments that I looked tired..... He did apologize after I said it was just how my face is and we had a chat about societal expectations that was rather productive but it still sucks that my face is perceived that way without makeup.

Intellectually I know those expectations are bullshit, but intrinsically I can’t shake them. I still see my body as a series of flaws despite years of therapy and self work. I just hope that the work women are doing now to deconstruct these damaging ideologies will make it better for women in the future.

It’s very unsettling when you realize that you don’t know any women (including yourself) who hasn’t been sexually assaulted, harassed, or coerced by a man.

Maybe it’s just where I live but guys in my area complain about getting speeding tickets and such all the time. Like why are you telling me, your date, about your careless driving? Am I supposed to be impressed? Pink flag to red flag zone. I’ve had one speeding ticket in my life and I don’t care to tell my date about that, in fact I’m quite ashamed about it.

TW: Sexual assault Over a year ago I went on a date and drank too much. I was sexually assaulted. The next day he breaks into my apartment building and slipped this “apology” letter under my door with some bags of candy. 8 months later the case is closed and nothing happens to him. I’ve become a shell of who I was and stopped taking care of myself. The investigation was demeaning, pro-abuser, and I was dismissed over and over again. The world is not nice to women. The consequences of being victi…

Once I brought a bottle of wine with me to meet a guys parents. I had asked what would be appropriate to bring before and he said wine. He took the bottle and stashed it away. The point of the gift was to make a good impression and present it to the hosts. I had to tell him to retrieve it. Broke up with him a few days later. The lack of conscientiousness was a deal breaker.

I enjoyed my Sara j Maas readings but I never felt connected to them. I’m yet to find a feminist absolute YA novel that doesn’t perpetuate porn- ish expectations in its sex scenes. Let’s have the guy not get hard sometimes, let’s have some time and care for the woman’s orgasm! I would feel so much sexier if the media I consumed mirrored the realities of sex.

I believe in consuming decolonial feminist ideas and arguments. Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie is a Nigerian Scholar and author (with 3 degrees!) and she speaks with conviction and honesty about women's oppression in this world. You may also recognize the clip featured in Beyonce's song "Flawless".

A few years ago I was at a hospital lobby and I saw a family exit from the elevator. The man and a young boy walked ahead and entered a waiting car. The woman was holding a baby carrier and was obviously newly postpartum. She started shuffling along in clear discomfort while carrying her new baby, and her husband yells at her across the lobby to hurry up.

I’m from Europe and I lived in the US for many years, specifically LA. I found that being foreign lead to more effort on men’s parts while dating because I was seen as desirably different. My accent was always commented on and people made assumptions that I was fancy and posh (which is ironic as I’m Irish and that’s not the case back home). However for those immigrants from a country with negative connotations meant you would be shat on and treated as less. I was the right type of foreign in the…

Back when women wore long skirts it didn’t matter what your legs looked like, the standard was focused on other features. Now that we can wear shorts and bikinis it’s a big deal that your legs look like a child’s legs; skinny, unblemished, hairless, and cellulite free. What part of our bodies is not criticized? Even our brains and uteruses are under fire. I suppose the spleen is doing alright.

I have three degrees and it took me almost all of them to start expecting mutual respect. I wish the world was better to women because I internalized ALL of it at a young age and it’s taken a decade to reconcile. I won’t stand for young girls learning what I did and suffering the consequences of it. It’s a tale too common and too old.
