I love my best friend a lot. You know how writers will describe these unachievable romances by saying they “just clicked” or that they “effortlessly slipped into an intimacy from which they will never recover.” Or whatever? I have that with her. I’m not comparing or equating my romantic relationships to my friendship; but having such a supportive, wholesome friendship shows me what love really is and that it does exist. I’m not desperate for a partner because I already know I’m loved and support…

100%. I find myself being able to determine if someone is objectively attractive or not, but I am never actually attracted to them because of the personality that tends to be attached to the face. I bet most men would be surprised by the guys we swipe right on. They’re not remarkably attractive or unattractive, they’re pretty average tbh.

Lol, I worked in entertainment for awhile and interacted with a lot of conventionally attractive people as a result. I always disliked talking to the people who were the most conventionally attractive because they just oozed this.... smarminess. Acted like they were giving me a gift for allowing me to talk to them. They also had a tendency to talk a lot but said so little. 0/10 would not date.

Fake tweets and shitposts are completely accurate but FDS is a bunch of inc*ls masquerading as women. Really incredible logic.

I use to frequent tumblr in my youth and was an active member on the site for about six years. During that time I saw the rise and fall of the “SJW” movement, for lack of a better word. A lot of my friends were active participants. The thing that gets lost in these screenshots is that the OP doesn’t understand the site’s culture and doesn’t care to, and is unable to differentiate between troll accounts who purposefully post inflammatory comments, and shit posts. Both of which are the main fodder…

I had a roommate who was this brand of misogyny. The type that espoused how thankful she was that she only had brothers and no sisters, that if she ever decided to have children she would want them to be boys, and constantly tried to find ways to bring other women down around her. (She “wasn’t like other girls”) I can understand the thought process because I was similar when I was in middle school, but I can’t imagine how exhausting that shit is to do on the daily as an adult.

It reads like an attempt to figure out how to best manipulate you tbh. All under the guise of just wanting to be a ~caring~ and more ~~understanding~~ partner.

This is marginally related to your story but: About once a week a post on relationship_advice gets popular where the OP asks if it is wrong of them to no longer be attracted to their SO who has gained weight. If the OP is male and talking about their female SO the replies are almost always telling the OP they aren’t wrong for feeling this way, and that if they have “exhausted” all options then the OP should just break up. If the OP is female and talking about their male SO the replies are always…

Tampa, FL: A weird mix of professional athletes, medical students, law students, and your general smattering of “Florida man.” It feels like a city where people are just starting out their life so there was more so a focus on hookup culture than actual relationships. The downside was that no one really lives in Tampa that hates Florida, or else the last place you would be caught living in was fucking Tampa. Not the worst place for dating, but people were either too immature or too image-consciou…

I’m in the middle of going back to school for a year to improve my career prospects. In the process I’m saving money until then and have been feeling kind of down on myself as a result. This post helped me feel a bit better about it all, thank you! ☺️

(I also have a collection of screenshots from my OLD experiences!) I’m on a break from dating right now but OLD always brought out the worst in guys when I was active on it. Part of it was that I mistakenly was open about the fact I watched anime and read manga, and that just brought out the most.... interesting characters. I ended up having to remove it from my profile because guys would either send me weird messages about it (“If you sold your bath water I would buy it.”) Or tried to act like …

Big drinker is one that I think a lot of people overlook. A friend of mine had a boyfriend that drank a couple of beers every night but she didn’t really think much of it in the beginning. Surprise, he was incapable of socializing, relaxing, or having any hobbies outside of drinking. It ended up being a major catalyst for the relationship ending because he was unable to admit that he depended on alcohol to be a basic, functioning adult.

You're right you definitely can evaluate them in other ways, as you mentioned. But I think many people may read the original advice and feel like dating anyone still in school is therefore a waste of their time by the original logic presented. I also think it may cause paranoia or self-doubt that if they are in a relationship or pursuing a relationship with someone in this position, that they themselves are being viewed as a stepping stone by the other party. I agree with the spirit of the origi…

That's the part that gets me about this advice. I understand not dating a guy who says he's going to be a musician one day, but has no concrete strategy or game plan to achieve that. But if you're in your 20's you encounter a lot of people in med school/law school/grad school, that have their long term success planned out, it's just getting from point A to point B. The only real option is potentially dating guys who have reached point B, however that then just brings up the age gap problem depen…

I don’t want to go into detail about how I do it because I don’t want to publish an easy how to guide on how to dox people that anyone can follow. Honestly 90% of it is people not taking online privacy very seriously and not being careful what they post. 5% is luck, and then another 5% is time. I was also a late bloomer. (Always prioritized my school and work over relationships, happened to be in groups that were mainly female dominated, wasn’t interested in hookup culture. It was just never a priority for me.) I honestly wouldn’t mention your lack of experience at all until you know the other party decently well. This was talked about a bit in a post yesterday that may interest you. My parents have a 10 year age difference and have been married for over 30 years, despite that their marriage isn’t particularly happy and I attribute a lot of it to that age difference.

Oh man I’ve been in this position, it feels weirdly isolating because like. How do you complain to people that someone is just.... too high quality? I think these feelings ultimately stem from a place of self-doubt. “Am I his equal? What does he see in me? Why wouldn’t he choose someone who was more into swordfighting/beekeeping/blood spatter analyst/whatever?” And I think some of those thoughts may stem from the fact you just don’t have a lot in common. If you were also a trilingual, profession…

One final thought: It's easy for him to approach the reality of you taking care of him with nonchalance because he has everything to gain in that situation. You're the one who will ultimately be sacrificing more. Downplaying your concerns is a bit of a red flag to me. He should know or be aware of what you're sacrificing by choosing to be with him, and he should be nothing but thankful for that.

A healthy lifestyle merely improves his chances long term, not that he won’t inevitably encounter health problems. To dismiss your very real concerns of being a caretaker with “I live a healthy lifestyle though!” is very naive on his part. I also don’t know if you’re planning on having children, but that is also something that needs to be taken into account. I bring up political leanings because that is something that I think surprised my mother most. As my father aged he felt that his age allow…

Yup. My father went from “conservative, but ultimately fine” to just insane with his beliefs. He justifies everything he says as him being old so he can say whatever he wants. It’s awful and unbearable to listen to, the worst thing about it is that there was literally no indicator that his behavior would manifest like this ultimately. It really sucks and it has made me screen matches based on political opinions much more harshly. Even if someone lists “moderate” for their political beliefs I con…

Some advice coming from someone with parents that have a 10 year age gap. (They also had differing political opinions but loved each other and got married regardless.) While they have now been married for over 30 years, I can’t say it’s a particularly happy marriage. Down the line when your SO’s health begins to fail you will be expected to take care of them and stop your life plans to prioritize their health. You will be limited by what they can and cannot do. And you will be making these decis…

I think that’s the type of person attracted to the military. They want the respect and baseless praise for being part of the military without thinking of any negative repercussions it could have on their future. In my high school class, everyone who joined the military was the type of person who needed to feel like they were respected + feel like they were a part of something bigger. I have a private tumblr that I go to whenever I catch feelings or get my heart broken. No one has access to it and I don’t feel embarrassed espousing my love for someone who ended up not working out down the line. It’s also great because I post all of my “letters to people I hate” so I can get out my emotions in a healthy way, without contacting the other party. I’ve had it for a couple years now and I like going through it occasionally to see how much I have grown as a person. :)

The OKC Blog posted some data awhile ago that said that women who sent the first message tended to be better off than waiting to be messaged. I think a lot about how Reddit is a source for news, stories, and discussion for millions of people everyday. And when the majority of Reddit users are young, white males, that the only real viewpoint that is being pushed is what aligns with that group’s beliefs. I first noticed it with the high frequency with which news stories of false rape allegations made the front page. This x1000. You’ve already established this guy ain’t dating material for X reason(s). Idk if it is a Queen moment but it was my turning point: In college I was kind of seeing this guy from my hometown. I was attending college three hours away. When I live by myself it’s fine, but I have no idea how I am going to balance my “hobbies” with my FDS values. I’m pretty adventurous with food by most people’s standards. I try chicken feet at the dim sum place, I love bone marrow, and spicy food does not phase me. I don’t expect everyone to be comfortable eating snails and frog legs, and I totally understand that some people just can’t jive with certain foods. I usually give people three things that they just can’t stand eating, no questions asked. When it goes beyond that I find them incredibly boring and immature. I once went on a date with a guy to a sushi place. Once we got there he informed me he had never had sushi and wasn’t sure if he could stomach the idea of eating raw fish. If you actually like this guy: “That sounds great, but I was thinking of doing X or Y that night? I hate when the topic of rape is ever brought up, on Reddit particularly, the conversation always centers around male victims of rape. Male victims of rape deserve love and support as well, but the majority of people who bring it up do so to divert the attention from how women are routinely assaulted to instead how the crime could effect men. It’s never actually out of genuine concern for victims.
