I love my sister, but this Thanksgiving she asked how many drumsticks a regular turkey has...

I have always thought the mutts were much better dogs - something about the natural mixing of the gene pool produces more interesting qualities. My dog was 1/2 German Shepherd, 1/4 Doberman, 1/4 Rottweiler - and surprisingly mellow despite that heritage.

Thanks :) I am really hoping to be stable and self-sufficient enough that no matter what happens I can find a place to survive peacefully and on my own.

I really like knowing there are other guys out there like this. Heading down to my parents' place for the holidays, and then I'm looking for a pup when I get back. I'm excited :)

Thanks :) I looked around today and felt like I wanted to share with my bros here.

I agree - the shitposts are fun but my favorite posts are where someone shares what's going on with them.

Thanks, I appreciate that. It really has helped to find this subreddit.

That's what is great about distributions these days, most of the major ones just work. I've used Ubuntu plenty of times but settled on Fedora since it's basically upstream Red Hat, which I have to support at work.

ThinkPads have a system called "Active Protection" that immediately shuts down the drive if it detects a condition where the drive could be damaged - although, I've been using an SSD with no moving parts for a few years so that wasn't an issue for me :)

She "wants to be a stay at home mom", which means either she's working now and wants a kid as an excuse to quit, or she's not working and needs an excuse not to get a job. Sounds like she just wants to win the "mommy lottery". He ought to flip it on her - "sure, let's have a kid but it's always been my dream to be a stay at home dad. "

... and somehow men don't need to go out and brag to everyone about how "amazing" they are for doing ordinary things.

Ah, the "Women are amazing! Our bodies... grow babies!" one? That's been annoying the piss out of me and I've almost posted about it myself. As if they had some hand in designing the entire gestation process, instead of just having sex and then letting the pregnancy happen. When you're taking credit for some natural process that just happens on its own and saying it makes you "amazing", it's really clear how little you have to be proud of.

I would encourage anyone interested in getting into investing to read JL Collins' stock series (easy to find by searching on that phrase) or the writings on John Bogle (founder of Vanguard). TLDR; low-cost index funds out perform the vast majority of even professional fund managers and are a more solid strategy than trying to build wealth quick by day trading. If I were interested in day trading, personally I'd only do so with a small percentage of my money and see it more as entertainment than …

This is great and inspiring, and it's an interesting exercise to contrast this with the victim culture that is everywhere these days. I feel fortunate to have ended up on this side of that cultural divide.

Last line of the plot summary from Wikipedia: Rob makes a mixtape for Laura, feeling like he's finally learned how to make her happy. About as blue pill as it gets.

That was pretty much perfect, aside from the ending - Tom and Jerry should have been shown living happy forever, while the rich Chad cat gets divorce raped.

My first girlfriend told me that she'd been raped; I got really upset and sad that someone had done that to her. She started acting like I was an idiot and couldn't figure out why it bothered me. I'm certain now, some thirty years later, that it was a fabricated event. We only went out for a few weeks before breaking up, but a couple years later I found out that she'd gotten her hands on some dynamite and tried to blow up another ex boyfriend's car.

I've been working in IT for seventeen years in various roles and have yet to run into one of these "socially awkward virgin nerds" they're always going on about. Maybe they think that about me, since I divorced in 2004 and never remarried...

Yeah, I don't really want to see people suffer or die. But this kind of thing - honestly, large portions of the population have seriously gone off the rails completely. I am so embarrassed on behalf of the entire human race that this is where we've ended up after thousands of years.

The thing that I notice every time this commercial comes on is how stupid she looks walking in those heels.
