These are very good points. I just wish the age differences weren't there. I recently had to hire an aide for the first time. The guy before me had a "type" that he liked, and all of his aides were very attractive women. I work at a library, so 80% of the resumes I got were women, anyway. I ended up picking the most qualified and likely to stick around, but it was difficult working under this stigma that if that person happened to be 22 and smoking hot, people would assume I hired her for her looks.

We certainly wouldn't be able to abolish it during the war, but in the years after we'd see what martyrs these women were, and how they didn't deserve to die. Ending the draft will keep us out of any war that doesn't have support from the citizens. We didn't need a draft after 9-11 because record numbers joined up. I also think that the first step to abolishing the draft is to apply it to women. We bring a few ladies home in caskets after they were drafted, we won't have a draft ever again. This was posted a few days ago. The mothers didn't come after him, the State did. The kid got sick, so the moms applied for State Aid. The state found the guy listed as the dad. They did their "transaction" privately instead of through a state-sanctioned method, so he retained paternity. I think the only way to look at that image is to assume identical timelines, and to be generous with the timing that you assume. For instance, imagine two couples that did not intend to get pregnant, but find themselves as such. They both learn of the pregnancies at 2 weeks in. We don't have enough information to classify this. From the description, this story is about a dad that was scared off and never established contact. He wrote letters, but had no way to know if they were delivered. I've never been through it, but I'm pretty sure that from the kid's perspective, it's difficult for dad to pull off this disappearing act without consenting to it. I don't doubt he would have lost custody in court because he's male, but it doesn't sound like it went that far.
