I feel like that might happen to me one day. I guess some classic “explaining why rules exist and are not a bad thing” is probably mandatory from now on.

Totally.

That is a hard take. But I get what you mean: you either have been ‘validated’ or ‘unvalidated’ by another woman, depending on your marital status.

I would contact a lawyer first and a psychologist second. Get not only advice but also a body of evidence that you are doing the right thing or have not done anything wrong.

Very good advice here. An emphasis on ‘you are still young’. You most certainly are and have the life ahead of you. You might eventually find the right woman, and if you do, you might change a bit some of the ways you think about a couple. At that point, maybe some of the things you describe above as your own ‘red lines’ will move: you might find yourself being less worried about being a good son (your parents probably know you are) or more interested in confronting ‘your own company’ to the bea…

Sam experience here with therapist fucking the relationship. Is there some kind of incentive for them to do that?

How to find the right lawyer is where I am at. Can I ask what were your criteria?

I’m not in your place OP (or not yet) but the plan is all my kids get phones so that we can chat whenever we want. If you had to sell the house. Would you be able to keep your job while moving closer to where your ex lives? That would be the silver lining of the situation for me.

My own experience was that my ex wife did not fully understand beforehand how much the 50/50 would get to her. Neither did she realise how much the kids would hate it. Like you I am at that stage where I wish things would just get better between my wife and me and we could ‘save the family’. But at the same time I need to be a cold MF handling this negotiation that is a divorce. That is an impossible position to be in between two irreconcilable approaches. Reading this sub, ‘things get better’ a…

Well done for keeping it together. Not sure I would have been able to go through what you did as strong as you seem to be. I recognise myself in your situation because of the behaviours you describe, both from you and your wife. But I have never been as wealthy as you are and so I have much less to lose in my ongoing divorce proceedings. It does not necessarily make things better as it becomes a battle over very little, and no party ends up in a good situation.

Thanks! Really appreciate the advice. I hope I’ll find out soon enough what putting an end to it looks like.

I have contacted a mediator. Hopefully, that is still the way this will go. Totally understand the part about not fucking it up by going too fast and asking as many questions as I can. I guess this will be pricey… but there is no alternative: info I get from the internet about divorce laws in my jurisdiction are just confusing as hell.

Thanks! Why do I feel like I have seen your user name before pop up many times before? :) The first contact I had with a lawyer was maybe too reassuring. Now my ex-wife has just left with the kids for her new place with basically zero heads up, so the emergency mode has finally kicked in. I have to precise I’m not US-based, so hopefully the law where I am (Belgium) sucks less, although I have very little hope. Thanks for your advice in any case. I’ll just put in all the hours I have. One thing I…
