The invention of birth-control has not changed the fact that women are still way pickier about who they sleep with than most men are. (Sure, a woman could fuck any random loser with no negative consequences, but why would she?) Being a stud is still an achievement - not every man can do it. So, like the original post says, the fact that this man has slept with lots of women is evidence that he must be doing something right. Whereas being a slut is incredibly easy to "accomplish" for almost any w…

That's a good nitpick, though it doesn't change the main point (unless you're seriously suggesting that the pill makes women as unpicky about their sexual partners as most men are).

You'd be correct IF human evolution had had time to catch up with the invention of birth control. But it hasn't. Human emotions and instincts aren't that different from the way they were 40,000 years ago. Despite the fact that condoms have made it more-or-less risk-free for a woman to fuck even a total loser, most women are still much much pickier about who they sleep with than most men are.

You are not dumb enough to disregard all the stuff in the world that we haven't yet been able to test in a controlled environment. You're also not dumb enough to believe in "proper studies" that account for "all the possible variables." I understand that you're on Team Science, so am I, but not every positive statement about science is true and not every negative statement about it is false. I'm making a whole bunch of falsifiable claims. They're just not falsifiable by people who are ethically …

OK, a few things: You are very very right about "These are qualities that make them feel safe, not sexual." That's the standard alpha/beta thing that TRP often talks about. I don't like using those words because they've gotten so loaded around here, but Sexual-vs-Safe is a good summary. Attraction-vs-Comfort. Excitement-vs-Stability. Women want both, but the alpha traits are the sexual ones. So I think maybe the confusion here is that I'm mostly talking about personality traits. Confidence, domi…

Whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa. "sacrifice what attracts them" "sacrifice looks" Which is it? If it's the latter, I'm with you 100% - except that it's totally irrelevant to the point I'm trying to make. Women are primarily attracted to dominance/power/confidence/status/etc. Looks help, but I strongly recommend not using the words "good-looking" and "attractive" interchangeably when you're talking about men. (When talking about women they're much closer to being synonymous.) I'm also concerned tha…

Remember, the promiscuous woman isn't necessarily especially-attractive. Sleeping with a bunch of men is easy, even for women of average or even below-average looks. That is, you're absolutely right that men do rationalize away all sorts of faults in especially-beautiful women - but being promiscuous doesn't make her any prettier, and she doesn't have to be an especially-attractive woman in order to be promiscuous. (Whereas for men, both those things are true - he has to be an especially-attract…

Yes to the first question, no to the second. That is, yes, absolutely, a womanizer is a bad bet for a girl who's looking for a long-term relationship. If a girl starts dating a guy like that, her parents and girlfriends will tell her, "Don't fall for this one, he'll break your heart." Some girls will be smart enough to heed that warning. But many won't. Because this guy is very very attractive. (Virtually any woman can have sex with lots of men if she chooses. Relatively few men can have sex wit…

A promiscuous woman is great for casual sex, but not a good bet for a long-term relationship. Why is this confusing to you?

If a girl has had sex with a whole lot of guys, either she didn't want to stick around or the guys didn't want to stick around (or some combination thereof). Either way, that's something very important to know if you're considering a long-term relationship with her - it probably means it's not a great idea. (Maybe it could work. Maybe she's suddenly different now than she has been in the past. But that's not the way to bet. Not worth the risk, if you have other equally-attractive-and-less-risky …

I'm gonna have to ramble for a bit to explain where I'm coming from. Men and women are different. Men are better at some things than women are, and worse at some things than women are. (Statistically, of course.) The material over at TRP has taught me more about these differences than I've ever learned from any other source. A whole lot of stuff in the real world started making way way way more sense to me after I found that subreddit. Including, yes, some stuff about women's weaknesses and flaw…

I thought the idea was that it does apply to men, it's just that the "pre-selection" thing causes women to often ignore it. Plus for men it isn't really a problem to be "bad LTR material." Like, if a girl starts dating a guy who's been with a lot of girls, don't her parents and girlfriends tell her, "Don't fall for this one, he'll break your heart"? And then the girl (who is incredibly attracted to this guy, because the fact that so many other girls have wanted him is strong evidence that he's a…

Hmm, hotornot.com now seems to be more of a matchmaking site than a rating site. But there's gotta be some other website out there that'll let you post pictures and get lots of other people to rate them. Because of course you're absolutely right that sometimes you get a large variance in ratings. And that that says more about the person doing the rating than about the person being rated. So better to get a few dozen or a few hundred ratings.

The number system is extremely useful. On both sides - both men and women can be rated (though the traits that make women attractive are different from the traits that make men attractive, of course). It's very very important for both men and women to have a realistic assessment of their own number, and to know how to roughly evaluate the number of someone of the opposite sex. (And to be aware of how those numbers will change over time.) In fact, speaking as a man, when I first discovered all th…

That's a good point. I live in Ontario, Canada, and I'm kinda fuzzy about the rules regarding common-law marriage, but it does seem like they're slightly better than actual marriage. As best I can tell, the laws regarding division-of-property are different (whoever purchased the property gets to keep it, rather than everything being shared like in an official marriage), though the laws regarding child-support and child-custody and alimony are the same. That does actually seem like a significantl…

Are there ways to raise healthy children without actually living in the same house as the mother and the child? My understanding of the statistics was that children raised in a stable household with a mother and father do much better than children raised mostly by a single parent. I do want to have kids. And if I'm gonna do it, I'm gonna do it right. Unfortunately, that seems to mean that marriage is the only game in town. Am I wrong about that? (I really hope I am.)

Come on, it's totally reasonable for her to say, "That's not what I think; I can't speak for other people, only for myself," and then tell us what she thinks. The problem was that her description of her own opinion ("I take sort of a middle ground here") was really vague. It did seem like maybe she was just trying to avoid being pinned down. But the problem was that she wasn't clear about what she thought. It's not her fault that "feminism" in general has a bunch of different factions.

One of the things we've been trying to tell you is that you're extremely unlikely to be able to correctly predict your own future behaviour by "trying to put yourself in that situation." When it comes to this kind of sex/relationship stuff, if you try to guess how you'll feel in that situation by sitting there in your chair and imagining how you'll feel in that situation, you will get it wrong. We know this because gazillions of women say the exact same things you do... and then act in a way tha…

Well, like I said: not only sex objects. But yes. Alpha husbands cheating on their wives isn't a good thing for the marriage, or for monogamy in general. (Statistically it turns out to be less of a problem than women divorcing their beta husbands for not being dominant enough. But that's mostly because there are so many more beta husbands than alpha husbands.) The point of this isn't that women are "worse" than men or anything like that. It's that feminism has created a culture where casual sex …

Women say sometimes that men seem to be "only interested in one thing." It's not true. Men are interested in both things. We want casual no-strings-attached sex with as many hot girls as we can get, and we want to be a good provider/protector/father. We can want both of those things at the same time. Just because a man wants to fuck his hot young secretary doesn't mean he loves his wife any less. (And women seem to intuitively understand this, at least to some extent. His wife isn't going to be …

Yes. The fact that you liked the sex scenes is exactly what leads me to believe that you're a normal, healthy, dominant-man-loving woman. (And that's a good thing!) If you were a genuine exception, you would have found the sex scenes dull or a turn-off.

He's trying to explain to you that there are lots and lots and lots of girls who say the exact same thing you do - that they don't want a guy who wants to be in charge - and yet fall head over heels for him when he takes charge. It's unlikely that you're any different. (Especially given what you said elsewhere about enjoying the 50 Shades Of Grey books. So far you really don't seem like one of those rare women who aren't attracted to dominant men.) …

Not so much. Check the statistics. Most divorces are initiated by the woman, usually while she's relatively young (and therefore still has a decent chance of finding somebody better). The equivalent would be a husband divorcing his wife so that he can get a new younger hotter wife. Which happens, but not nearly as often. Partially because the divorce laws are totally against him and he'll get completely screwed. Partially because he's just as happy to stay married and just fuck the hot girl on t…

Nothing's wrong with it, IF they're both genuinely happy. But that's very very rare. What's much much MUCH more common is that they both think they're OK with it or think they should be OK with it (because feminism has taught them that they should be) even though her attraction to him is fading. And then she ends up leaving him, or cheating on him, and neither of them even really understands why. Maybe you're an exception. Or maybe you're one of the vastly-more-common women who think they want a…

How about "Captain" and "First Officer"? I don't want a woman I have to boss around. I want her to be competent, I want to be able to trust her to make good decisions and do what needs to be done without me bossing her around. I'm not looking for a Junior Lieutenant, I'm looking for a First Officer. But yeah, I expect to be treated as the Captain. I'll ask her for suggestions, I'll listen to her advice, I'll put a lot of trust in her judgment. But ultimately I expect her to follow my lead. Becau…

Fun and humour are largely about surprise. Doing or saying unexpected things. Whatever you're expected to do, you don't do. You're expected to tell the truth - so instead you lie, exaggerate, make stuff up. You're expected to follow the standard social rules - so instead you break them, do outrageous things. You're expected to live in the real world - so instead you role-play, make up imaginary stuff, pretend to be someone you're not. Etc. There are a million different ways to not do the expecte…

Just out of curiosity, are those numbers based on a solid scientific study, or did you draw them from your own observations, or what? (I totally agree with the general flavour of the observation, I'm just wondering whether we have actual statistics about what percentage of the men are getting what percentage of the women.)

Marriage is worth saving because it's the best system we know of for creating a society where children don't get horribly fucked up due to lack of a father. If you've got a better idea, I would be thrilled to hear it, because I really like the idea of having a healthy society where I can get easy casual sex. And I'm glad to take advantage of the screwy feminist society we've got in the meantime. But in terms of what would actually be good for society as a whole? Monogamous marriage is, as far as…

I've got a question about this four-year-cycle thing: Biochemical research points to a natural four-year sexual cycle for the human female. This apparently allows enough time after childbirth for the average mother in a state of savagery to regain her ability to survive without male provisioning. In the absence of any system of marriage, a woman’s natural tendency is to “liberate” herself from her mate after that point. When her hormones prompt her to reproduce again, she simply takes a new mate…

This subreddit has only 1500 subscribers, spread out all over the world - one or two in this city, one or two in that city. Not nearly enough to form a coherent group if geography mattered. The Internet let us find each other and talk to each other and be a group. Basically, the Internet makes it much much much easier for mostly-like-minded groups to split over minor differences (since, like you said, we're naturally inclined to do that). It's easier for the splinter group to have the critical m…

You will NOT be happy at 30 if you're not married by then; you will be panicked and desperate, because you'll be feeling the urge to settle down and have kids but you won't be able to compete with the 20- and 25-year-old girls. (You'll still be able to get a spineless beta to marry you, but you won't be able to get the kind of man you really want.) So your primary goal is to find a good husband while you're still young. That means that you must NOT eschew men until you're established in your car…

I think those two things are very similar. Women hold the Sex card, men hold the Commitment card. It's the greatest power you have. If you give it away too easily, nobody will respect you. That's why we talk about Nice Guys being "emotional sluts" - they give their attention and love and commitment away far too easily. Feminism has turned men into needy wusses (and so they get friend-zoned) and turned women into sluts (and so they get "fuck-buddy-zoned"). What the picture gets wrong is that the …

I think of it as the male equivalent of shit tests. Women have to test men for weakness, men have to test women for sluttiness. You make unreasonable requests, and then lose respect for the other person if he/she grants them. It seems hypocritical to the person being tested, but that's the way tests work. In the modern world the timeline is way shorter than it used to be. Four or five dates sounds reasonable to me; it's longer than a slut would wait (so she's demonstrated her self-control), but …

Yeah, I want kids. I wanted them before discovering the red-pill-o-sphere, and I still want them now. What's changed is that now I have a more realistic understanding of how difficult it's going to be to find a woman worth having them with. Before the era of feminism, it was enough to find an ordinary woman - you needed her to be a good person, but not an extraordinarily good person. An ordinary woman of average moral character was fine, because the culture around her shaped her choices in mostl…

That's fair. And there are plenty of other men going their own way and doing just fine. But I will say that a whole bunch of my frustration and pain went away as soon as I realized that there was a whole curriculum of stuff to learn. I was like, "Oh. It's your life. You should do what you want with it. But be aware that the vast majority of women find submissive men unattractive. The "obsession with the alpha male" isn't some arbitrary thing that /r/seduction dreamed up; it's something that's wired deeply into most women's minds. It's great to get a girl's perspective about this stuff. We're all wary of blindly accepting female advice on these kinds of topics, because girls tend to talk about the nice/gentlemanly/respectful side of things without mentioning the confidence/leadership/strength side of things. But it's still good for us to learn to see things from your point of view. I'll offer you a guy's perspective: asking can definitely hurt him, IF he does it in a tentative/needy/timid way. Women are afraid of being tricked into sex. Women are afraid of Game the same way the MPAA and RIAA are afraid of file-sharing software. It's exactly the tool that the bad guys need to do bad stuff. Sure, maybe there are some people going good things with it, but she doesn't really care about any particular guy's struggle to overcome his AFC-ness and improve himself and become more attractive. Why is this being downvoted? I'm reminded of something Tyler said in Blueprint Decoded about masculine versus feminine polarity. Most of the suggested lines in the comments here are of the "flip the script" variety - playfully pushing her away, acting as if you don't want it. Which is fine, it works, it's fun, it's playful, it's different... but it's not the masculine thing to do. You want to have sex. She knows you want to have sex.
