Beards make me feel like I'm interacting with an ape. They're either dry and not conditioned so look like steel wool, or glimmering with waaaay too much beard oil slathered onto them

For me the problem is outside money and being a provider, men don't care to do nor participate in the Labour of being a partner. I have so many married/coupled girlfriends who literally on top of being the breadwinner, do it all: home work with the kids, shuttling offspring to school and setting up play dates, buying the household necessities, cooking and providing meals etc....this boohoo line of thinking is pathetic. Men need to widen the scope of their value add to women, beyond what they can…

Aint that the truth. Female friendships are so rewarding and supportive, that male friendships (outside of my cousins) dull in comparison.

Men stay talking a good game. They will verbally sell you the galaxy and leave your hopes in the dust. One thing I've learnt the hard way is not to use pretty little words and flattering lines as a vetting metric. Effort. Effort and energy expended is really what to look out for in the beginning . What are his actions? Write it down even. What are his actions? What are they doing ?...it will change the game for you. Is he planning dates? Does he open the door? Does he walk you to your car? Pay f…

What in the honest hell does he mean by he doesn't feel guilty? Men and their ability to rationalise hurting or blatantly having zero regard for the people in their lives is so trash. Ugh! This is so tragic. Said co-worker is at best (a) probably looking for a mentor and (b) most likely playing nice with the big boy at work cause she's his subordinate, and doesn't want to jeopardise her career. I wouldn't be surprised at all if this so called "romantic affair" was all in his head.

Lies! This 3 decades of lost life deserves some serious mourning. We have a term in South Africa, it called to "bekezela" - which in essence is as this woman describes. A glorified suffering in silence and withstanding all manner of nonsense because you're invested in a sham of a marriage. At least the gen Z and millennial women in SA are totally opposed to this trash ideology

It's like you read my mind. I also strangely feel so much pity (I know, thats awfull and patronising but that's genuinely how I feel) for a whole host of my girlfriends who's lives revolve around being the primary caretaker, bang maid, breadwinner and cow towing around their SO - not so significant selves. It's a huge relief...we escaped the matrix

I'm essentially taken aback at how mediocre his ideas are, and how "larger than large" he's gotten. I mean women, religious groups, even the feminists who he is so intent on discrediting articulate many of the practical, don't be a Peter pan waste man ideology he articulates.

My sentiments exactly! I'm not an interior designer, I just play with what I like, get some inspiration online and give it a go. In his book, he confesses (essentially confesses) to victim shaming a woman about her rape. As she was intoxicated and at a frat party back in her college days. I'm not being argumentative, but I genuinely do believe there's a whole host of people who were his clients that are probably worse off than they were before they found a way into his office as a clinical psychologist.

I was talking to a man ( we are both professional people of colour) and there is a whole host of his rhetoric and dialogue that sits badly with me. His take on systemic racism (white privilege being a farce) and how society should enable men to get married, else they tend toward violence- like something out of the Handmaid's Tale- is genuinely disturbing. I also believe his followers cherry pick what it is they extract from him, as opposed to holistically evaluating the value of what he has to s…

I'm a decor/ furniture loving and DIY enthusiast of note when it comes to my home. And I cant tell you how often men I barely know (a friends brother or boyfriend, a male client (I work out of a home office) has suggested I help them out with their doing up their place. I've repeatedly declined. It reaks of entitlement, they have no idea/ concept of the time and energy expended into making a house a home. I'll leave that labour to some other poor sod.

What disturbs me (33F) is watching the horrendously skewed balance of power, as well as asymmetry in life experience, which culminates in a wide knowledge (self and worldly) gap. In the last year I'd decided to check my single male acquaintances on their propensity (most of whom are in their mid to late 30s and 40s) for dating women 10 -15 years younger than them. Truth be told their LVM and they know it. Its generally easier for them to reel in younger women, and not be asked the difficult ques…

This is why I preach to stear clear of broke men. The division of labour is so inequitable its literally like signing up to be a mule (beast of burden), and then the tip toeing because of their propensity (most of them) for fragile egos or allegedly being emasculated at every turn you excell... it's a cragmire, it very rarely (least I've never seen it) works.

I know a fair number of male divorcees, and I share you're point of view. There is an absolute absence of ownership and introspection on their part, plenty vilification of their previous partner. Or worse still, outright avoidance. Both don't bode well for a new relationship.

Woooow! I hate mooching men...not only are they leeches of epic proportion but they also lack any dignity and self regard. Selfish AF, you told her the truth. Perhaps you've helped plant the seed that'll help one day help her liberate herself from this Peter Pan like husband

Because men are engineered to do the minimum of anything outside of what serves them, my philosophy has been to do less. When I'm about to put my room mates laundry in the machine- I breathe, I remind myself to do less.... it will go unnoticed, unappreciated and will never be reciprocated. Never again, with you all the way on that score

I'm so proud of you! Even though we discuss the red flags and checking out the minute evidence of said man being LVM/NVM emerges, its harder to execute in real life. You did it... inspite of all your previous conditioning and self comprising behaviours (when it comes to men &/or romantic endeavours). The next time, you won't doubt your judgement. Don't underestimate this feat, you're doing real good.

Yes, it is an absolutely horrible ultimatum. I have been here, and made this mistake. He is already armed with the knowledge of what your standards are, what it is you want....he has not delivered, the minimum. The ultimatum is essentially smoke and mirrors, he'll tell you what you want to hear, worm his way into your pants and still not be exclusive/ready for a relationship. I have also had the same over compensating propensity. Coming from an "over-giver" in recovery, pour that love, that burning desire or need for some or other external validation into doing something for yourself. Not as a once off, repeatedly! It might sound a little crazy, but I even had a schedule of things I'd do to treat myself (being the recipient of my own acts of service). I dont know where you are from, but I live in South Africa (Cape Town) and I will not mince my words - african culture is by it's very nature exceptionally patriarchal and misogynistic. So my experience of black men, is that they take that misogyny BS to a whole other level of fuckery. Polygamy, law had to be changed to enable a girl child to inherit (like, in the last 10 years), its custom to kneel when serving your husband his meal etc...Girl, its bedlam. Motherhood and fatherhood are not equal loads....and the God's honest truth is most of the women who've seen this story agree their husbands wouldn't be able to hack a weekend alone without calling in the calvary (aka another female/caregiver substitute like said husband's mother, sister, cousin...). It's an open secret quite frankly

I hate the gym for this very reason....the leering. At every female in lycra, the cranning of their necks and the unsubtle staring at you via a mirror or some over reflective surface. I mean it, EVERYWOMAN...regardless of age, shape, size. And what's worse, you can literally see them doing the math, what score you are or when they come.over to give you unsolicited advice about what's "wrong" with your form. I haaaaaaate the gym. I definately identify with exhibiting Pickmesha attributes before a man has demonstrated his worth. I feel I've been on a FDS path for 8 months ish prior to finding the group, but the tidbits and dialogue from the threads allow me more time to flesh out what it means to want true, meaningful companionship. I for the most part feel men don't have their shit together until their mid- thirties (ish...). I never understand the justification that men are clueless .We live in the information age, resources abound. Look at all the women on FDS, reading the handbook, vetting men, levelling up, taking constructive criticism and advice from one another... individually taking charge of our own growth, doing the work. He will learn on someone else's time- you're not a training academy. A spark of HVM sounds legions far from a HVM. Wish him well, dont lead him on if you ain't feeling it, and vamanos.

They do it to their female counterparts at work, their sisters, cousins, they're so called female friends (whom they are only using as a proxy for emotional labour until they find a SO)....Honestly, since I stopped playing nurturing Nancy to all the men children in my life, I have accomplished more life goals in the space of a year than I did a half deca…

You'd be so surprised and disappointed...however the response brilliant! Short, concise and on point. Way to represent girl. His ass needs to go buy a tube of KY jelly and stop harassing women online

Wow! I'm sorry you cant get that month of your life back....word of caution, because these lame ass boy/men children are so similar, he's going to try and squirm his way back into your life. DONT LET HIM! He's already demonstrated he's trash.

RE: givers and takers I also used to be an "overgiver" in both romantic relationships and friendships...sort of a social bribe come feeling like I had to earn someone's love and affection. (YUP, some level 10 000 pickmesha shit)...And then I invested in lots of self-love; boundaries, indulging myself, saying no and not elaborating any further on my no. STOP bribing people to love you, because they will fall in love with your hand (the things you do for them) and not your heart/person/humour. You…

This field? Name it....share it with us!!!! I'm so ready to leave legal practice in the dust. The "dress code" requirements alone, make me feel like I work in a whorehouse as opposed to a law firm

I've also extended this creed to my female friendships...and it has literally changed my life. Letting go of unreciprocated low vibrational relationships in general does wonders for reaffirming your self worth and boundaries all around.

But what's is with the sense of entitlement? I remember my ex didnt even have his license and threw a tantrum when I wouldn't loan him my car when I was at work...It was ridiculous

GUILTY TOO! I drive a luxury SUV and it's like stars in their (LVM) eyes...my newly established dating rule (circa 2017) is I dont date men without a car, nor men clearly itching to drive my whip. Not having it.

Babe, what's really going on with you? No shade, no judgment...but reading this thread made me feel like your must suffer from low self esteem. And that's okay. What can we as your online cheerleaders help you with so as not to find yourself in predicaments like the one above described? This chap openly stated he's looking for a hot maid from fetish country X...I know you don't aspire to be some fuck boy's glorified domestic worker . Cease contact with him. He's crumbing you - i.e. putting you o…

Your friend *cough cough * needs perspective. He might be immunocompromised or the people he lives with are too...further he's calling on the regular. Sounds to me like said friend has some attachment issues. Does your friend not have relationships with other people outside of this bloke? And also, its supremely selfish to want to see someone who lives with others, consequently putting other people at jeopardy. The reasoning and logic behind his behaviour (assuming he legit is isolating, not see…

We need to burn your friend at the stake...the hell kinda no Dignity is that? Let's play out this scenario: you and mister U (for unavailable) have just done the nasty. Oxytocin floating through your veins, you roll over...he's zipping his pants up. And bolting for the door, he has (insert lame excuse). Now you feel cheap and used and short changed. Because you wanted more! So get more....settling for less will erode at your sense of self worth and self respect. Be FWB with someone you dont want…

It's also as a result of the lessened likelihood of pairing with a woman of their own age. I have a late forty something friend, the father of 4.children all out of wedlock who never dates woman over 30...My assessment, he likes them young and naive and gullible. The truth is, your tolerance for B.S threshold is all the way up. Believing in the male driven narrative of struggle love, or preying on the vulnerabilities of young women with daddy issues. It's akin to predatory behaviour

As an attorney, not even romantacilly speaking, my male counterparts have taken great and vocal exception whenever I differ with them on a point of law, the legal effect and interpretation of a statute etc...boo, romantically, they'll idolise the challenge of impressing upon you their intellectual superiority or worse still, attempting to chip away at this prime characteristic by pointing out other flaws in your personality or character (which they'll imply your intellect fails to compensate for…
