What are you worried about? You probably weren't married long enough for alimony to kick in. In my state (PA) you need to have been married for a minimum of 5 years.

My take on this is they had hormones that were driving them to procreate so they did everything they could to attract a mate then have a baby. Once the baby is born there is another hormonal change, and so the need to be attractive fades and the need to seem stable and reliable does as well. Other hormones that control protectionism for themselves and the offspring begin to kick in, the sire of the progeny loses all importance since the genes have already been replicated to the next generation, …

Sounds like you’re a great dad. Your relationship with your kids is of supreme importance to them. Nothing should get in the way of that.

That’s my exes favorite song as well. She’s such a vile POS who thinks butter won’t melt in her mouth.

They do this to prove the dissolution wasn’t their fault and they are ready to be someone’s perfect wife. Only it’s obvious bs that they all do….

I have to say, for me, the reason I was born was to have a kid, and literally no job is more important than raising my child

Dude I couldn’t really make it past the part where she keeps wetting the bed, but I don’t need to read any more. Consider yourself lucky you don’t have any kids and weren’t married long enough for her to get spousal support. You should file before she does, and you should tell her she needs to go. Also, just my opinion, if she’s already had a stroke and she’s only getting worse in terms of drinking, drugs, and caring for herself, she’s not going be on this earth for much longer anyway. I say get…

Sexism has swung the other way completely now. Men are just as victimized as women, if not more so because women feel validated in mistreating men. The system is set up to support victimized women but not so much for victimized men. The societally unpopular opinion is it's time to support men as well, just as much as women. To point out how ridiculous the problem is, realize that there are business groups with the stated purpose of only supporting women, can you even IMAGINE if there was a busin…

This is me exactly. I won’t look at her, but mostly because I get this complicated love/hate thing happening. Been this way for years. On the hand she’s the woman I fell in love with who is the mother of our amazing daughter, on the other hand she’s the lying cheating mean woman she was when it all ended, only more so. Now when I do look at her I barely recognize her, and I cannot for the life of me remember what her voice sounds like.

Keep up the good fight. I was (almost) in the same spot four years ago, only supervised 2 hours every other week …until i could get in front of a judge, and now I’ve got 50/50 custody! I never thought I’d see the day. I’m broke all the time because of child support even though we’re 50/50, but I am the richest man in the world because I’ve got my daughter back. Fight for your kids, my brothers, you deserve them and they deserve you.

Just be aware she’s a selfish piece of shit and likely to do the same to you, and you’ll be fine.

This is the playbook. It’s not you, this is what someone told them to do. My wife did it, and at least 30% of everyone in this sub has experienced it. Maybe up to 50%. At least you know you’re not alone.

Amen to that, the ex suddenly changed from steady straight ahead thinking while we were happily married, to random capricious actions based on spur of the moment whim. Now she’s making seemingly random decisions that contradict what she was doing before — and apparently contradicting logic as well. Child birth did not do good things for her predictability, intelligence, or strength of character.

I feel your pain brother. I’m there myself. Only thing that makes it ok is I know whoever that dude is will get the same treatment I did when she inevitably “trades up” again.

My story too. It seemed sudden and nightmarish, but my sisters had been plotting her departure with her for the better part of a year. I was never close to my sisters but my ex engineered a complete destruction of my relationship with them.

You will be on the hook for child support, even with 50/50. You have to have more than 50% because you make more than she does. She can easily get alimony as well, the more you make the more they’ll take. I make $80k and ex makes $38k. Because we were married for under 5 years there’s no spousal support in PA. She has primary custody I have every other weekend, and most holidays. I’m paying $1000/mo for one child. Here’s an easy PA child support calculator

For me it was the night she confessed that she wasn’t just serving cocktails at a private men’s club, that she was actually having sex for money with men in the back rooms. I couldn’t get her to stop because she “liked getting really expensive shoes whenever she wanted”. She then proceeded to tell me she was planning on becoming a sugar baby for one of the really rich guys she met at the club.

I have heard the “hypergamy” term before but only now just looked it up. TBH that’s probably a big part of why she wanted to marry me in the first place. I’m (52m) almost 20 years older than her, she’s from a rural farming community in upstate NY. We met while I was earning an MBA. I’ve realized she used me to her advantage in all sorts of ways, but honestly only just now understood that she has lived within this hypergamy mode the whole time I’ve known her.

I honestly don’t care who people choose to support, it doesn’t affect me or my reality, my real issue is when these folks take joy in causing other people misery while attempting to teach my daughter to embrace this ideology.

Know that if you are the sole earner you will likely be paying both CS -and- alimony. I hope you’re earning a lot, because I “make” 80k year and I’m constantly worried about keeping the lights on.

This happened to me exactly, XW claimed abuse and with no evidence and the court made it so I had to somehow prove I wasn't abusive (by having a "forensic psychological examination" at a shady privately owned court-mandated firm) and even then the court still wouldn't reverse the custody ruling or unbelievably enormous CS payment of almost 2k/mo (taken out AFTER taxes, so it's like taking 30k away annually). This is literally every penny of income after almost all my bills, but leaves me nowhere…

This is a great response, thank you. Believe it or not I just last week discovered all the museum passes available from the library here in Philly. Yes you surmised correctly, she took all the money out of our accounts, took the car, and ended the lease and took the entire security deposit - all while I was at work one day on a Thursday. So no money for a lawyer for me all the money for her. I had to scramble just to pay rent and keep the electricity on.

Yes the state (PA) set the rate. I petitioned hardship and got it lowered slightly. What is the custody form you’re talking about called, do you know? I will do that immediately.

Thanks for your thoughtful response. I definitely do try to maximize our time together. For example, we always make holiday cookies and decorate them together for every major holiday like 4th of July and Halloween. We go hiking on day hikes and I’m always taking her to the park and reading with her, etc so I’m definitely doing what I can. I hope she will remember all the good things when she gets older. Your advice about only hearing about the good times is very true and I haven’t really given t…

Wow dude, so much this. I am super sad that I’m not with my 5yo daughter every day, I still cry a lot almost 4 years after my ex left. I was destroyed thinking about damning my little girl to a life where she wouldn’t ever have had a full family, but the alternative, an unhappy home with fighting parents, would have been far worse. There are a few positives in this situation though, the main one being I get every other weekend to run errands and so I can do the stuff I wouldn’t be able to do wit…
