Doing what everyone else is doing to make everyone else happy is how most the men in here ended up in here.

Lifting is relatively straightforward and therefore more accessible and easy to prescribe to large numbers of strangers. However, others types of fitness, such as martial arts, could be better for promoting confidence, building a social network, providing mentoring and leadership opportunities, and maintaining lifelong hobby. Do what you want.

Boundaries are not for changing your partner. Boundaries help define your frame. Communicating them shows her how she can enter your frame. However, boundaries are not to change her. They are for you to decide in advance what you will do when she doesn't enter your frame. Whether you should communicate boundaries depends on your motivation. Let's say she has a genuine need for you to fulfill, but she is being shitty about it (e.g., giving attitude, being passive aggressive, silent treatment, etc…

This is askMRP. You asked only one question (twice): "at what cost?" Then you answered it. I think we're done here.

And make the covert contract into an overt contract? Where's the fun in that? Best to double down on passive aggression.

I agree that getting caught up in her issues is a vortex. You can't let her hamster dictate the trajectory of the relationship. Focus on yourself so you can create an environment (frame) into which she can enter if she chooses with sincerity and authenticity. That said, if there are no circumstances under which you let her into your frame, then you are missing some of the benefit of building that frame.

I've never thought about being a pseudo-therapist, so I'll bite: what would be wrong with that? An actual therapist cares about their client but doesn't get emotionally flustered when their client has a meltdown. An actual therapist supports their client but knows they can end the session and work with a new client if needed. A lot of guys here could benefit from that type of separation.
/r/askMRP14/10/25 03:28 PM

I get it. I was that guy for years, but you need to lead, and no one can lead unintentionally. Don't give her the silent treatment until she asks what's wrong. That tells me that, on some level, you wanted to change her by withdrawing. That tells me that, on some level, you need her approval and validation. Build your frame. Be a leader. Do what's right despite her behavior and despite your discomfort. Lift. Good luck.

If she wants separation, she can have the basement. She seems to know where it is. If she ever drops the attitude, watch for a comfort test. It sounds like she has family issues that she is afraid will manifest in you. That's her responsibility to manage, not yours; but it is your opportunity. Be ready to assure her, but only after she drops the attitude. Also, stop the passive aggressive "cold" nonsense. Speak up or shut up, but don't sulk and pout when you don't like what she's doing.
/r/askMRP14/10/25 01:31 PM

Either of you might be right, but it doesn't matter whether there's any coming back from that. OP shouldn't be reacting to and predicting her moves. That's living in her frame. He needs to build his own. OP, stop trying to change her behavior by punishing her. You want her? Go get her. She denies you? Move on without pouting. You don't want her? Ignore her like you've been doing and rejoice when she repays you in kind, since that's what you must have wanted.

That's about as covert as a contract can be.

You had a boundary. You held it. She had a boundary. She held it. The relationship met a natural end thereafter. That's how boundaries work. What would it say about you if you were to drop your boundary now?

You've embraced manipulation, codependency, and "using". Yes, you're jaded. I'm less concerned about how this isn't fair to your gf. I'm more concerned about how this demonstrates a lack of self-sufficiency on your part. Why does one like from her on Instagram send you into a tailspin? Why do you need her to change her behavior? Why can't you just act based on your principles? Why don't you see yourself as the prize?

Far be it from me to decide what your mission should and shouldn't be. I observe that your mission is not centered on what you will do, build, or create. It relies entirely on what someone else will give to you. Putting the success of your mission entirely in the hands of someone else (i.e., someone who can, on a whim, simply withhold respect for you) is a recipe for disappointment.

I'm trying to get you to figure out what you really want. So far, you've complained about all of your options. The only thing that would apparently make you happy is a combination of things that someone else would need to give you. With so much dependence on others, it's no wonder you're miserable.

before her, I was having frequent, wild, primal and mutually fulfilling sex with a roster of hot women. But I decided to focus on just one for a change, to see whether I could reform my degenerate ways and become a functioning member of society. Given how much you complain following that, it sounds like you now have your answer from your experiment: No. Why not go back to degeneracy, if you're so miserable now?
/r/askMRP24/06/25 12:13 AM

If you are going hot and cold in an attempt to modify her behavior, then you are in her frame because you need her to be a certain way before you can feel at peace. If you are at peace with yourself and God, then you shouldn't need her to be a certain way. You should simply be able to be your authentic self. That may mean being hot or cold at times, but only because being authentic requires that. Then, she can enter your frame if she chooses.

Go back to Step 1: Determine your boundary. In other words, what is the action that you will take in response to a particular something? Yes, the ultimate action is end the relationship. There are also intermediate responses, but which of them are you willing to take? Refuse to live together? Refuse to share finances? Refuse to spend time with her? Refuse to treat her to quality dates? Sometimes these intermediate responses are appropriate, but the problem is that they come off as petty and reac…

He's forgetting all three. He doesn't like when she posts provocative pictures, but he doesn't know what to do about it. That's a failure at Step 1. He's hoping someone can tell him the magic words that he can speak to accomplish Step 2 without having to do the work of Steps 1 and 3. If this isn't a deal breaker for him, then there isn't a boundary to enforce. If there's no boundary to enforce, then he needs to STFU. If he doesn't like that answer, then this really is a deal breaker for him. If …

What she said tells you nothing about what actually happened, whether more than that happened, or whether any of it happened at all. All it means is that she wants you to know and think about it. Why? It could be a variety of reasons. Maybe she wants to make you jealous by showing off that she can get the attention of men she considers superior to you. Maybe she was testing the waters to see if you would make an objection. Maybe she was setting it up so that she can explain future contact with t…

did not give in to care for how she feels but focus on me being in a good mood Half right. A strong frame does not mean that you don't care about how she feels. It means that you have room to care because you don't need any validation from her. The goal should not be to become incapable of care. A leader cares about those whom he leads. Your care is a gift you choose to give her when she enters your frame and follows your leadership. This all assumes you are actually providing leadership and not…

It would be easier to differentiate between your motives by examining when she turns you down. When that happens, is your reaction to not getting laid based more in the physical domain or the emotional domain? If you're having an emotional reaction, then you needed it for validation.

She said she didn't feel comfortable. As in, she lacks comfort. She's looking to you for comfort. She is specifically asking you to comfort her. So, class, would anyone who has read the sidebar like to guess what kind of test could this be?

I confess that I didn't expect you to provide a take that is as reasonable as the above. I expected a hero/rescuer fantasy. I am still concerned that you are looking to her for validation (what you call "truth from her", when truth is independent of her). I respect that you are faithful to your vows before God. I am glad that you see the difference between the woman you thought she was and the woman she actually is. I hope staying grounded in objective reality helps you through this. Best wishes…

I said it elsewhere and I'll say it again here. Stop this hyper-analysis of her behavior. You're so deep in her frame that you can't move on until you have tagged, labelled, and categorized every bothersome thing she does. I speak from a miserable history of doing the same thing when I tell you: it needs to stop. Get to a place where you don't have to do this anymore.

First, you're thinking rationally. That's good for you. However, she will not think like you do. She won't stop herself from (or apologize for) shit testing you just because you don't shit test her. She's not like you, and that's a good thing. If you wanted a partner who was just like you, then you wouldn't be seeking a feminine partner; you'd be seeking a masculine partner. The solution isn't to increase her masculinity by making her more like you. The solution is for you to become masculine en…

Better, and understandable. I've felt the same way before. Being criticized sucks. You'll be better still when you figure out why you don't like being criticized. Why can't you just laugh it off? What is it about your frame that is lacking? Why do you spend time thinking about the way she should be in front of others? Why do you need her to change just so you can be at peace? Why can't you manage your own emotions in that moment? Why do you need her to be responsible for your feelings? She's not…

Some general guidance: -Regardless of total income, it's most important to live within your means. Year after year, you should be accruing savings, not debt. If the opposite is true, setup a budget and track your expenses. Look for the unnecessary expenses the same way you would look for a leak in a water baloon. Don't let someone else do this for you. Take ownership of finances and then lead your family to live within the budget. -Whatever field you are in, you should be progressing, rather tha…

I'm extremely new to MRP, but even I can see this isn't going to work for OP without correction. "Solved in 5 days"? Please. OP is deeply invested in her frame, when she herself admits that she regularly says one thing and does another. So, he does some evasive maneuvers, gets some sex, and then assumes that his marriage is fixed. It can fall apart just as fast, if not faster. He would do better to focus on his own frame (of which there are some hopeful hints above) and let the dread (hints abov…
