Though the mean part of me feels like the pic on the left is the Tinder pic and the one on the right is what actually arrives at your date?

Oh my gosh so much this. I have two really good friends who until recently (our 40’s) were ALWAYS The One before The One. They’d build up these dickheads from unemployed musicians or deadend jobbers into decent earners with real prospects after they’d been supported through study and encouraged and cheerled and bolstered. Often considerable input into personal appearance as well, from being exercise partners through to buying decent clothes. Once “civilised” and “boosted” they moved on to women …

I’m such a dick I didn’t even think to check her facts. I am absolutely embarrassed to the roots of my hair that I have literally taken her opinion, which I can ONLY imagine has come from him and the other Fijian men she has dated (yes it’s a habit), as cold hard truth. I’m ashamed. Thank you for bringing this to my attention, I’ll try and bring it to hers x

Completely agree, he’s Fijian, and apparently they absolutely worship “their” women.

Thank you for taking time to describe your thinking, that does make sense. I don’t think any of them would be interested in me like that because I know I don’t feel anything remotely like that toward them. But as you say men are a different species when it comes to sex. I once had an argument with a pickme friend who said “I know I’m not ugly because no man I have ever offered sex to has ever turned me down” Broke my heart. You make an entirely fair point that I am projecting my feelings on to t…

Politely disagree. I have a number of close male friends, they all get on great with my husband, but my husband is much less sociable than me. We are opposites in a lot of ways but make a very strong team. I love people, love listening to their news and knowing what’s going on in their lives and generally being everyone’s auntie. My darling isn’t interested in people outside of the small circle of those he loves and that’s fine. He knows I have dozens of friends and acquaintances who I like to k…

I didn’t get to meet my father in law, he died in his 50’s four months before we started dating. My husband doesn’t remember him with rose tinted glasses, he was lazy round the house and could be stubborn af. But importantly he taught his sons to respect EVERY woman he met, not in a patronising way but with a genuinely equal approach. My husband believes in me and backs me 💯 he has never once presumed I can’t do a thing just because it’s not a typically female task. Because of that belief I’ve t…

Sweetheart, your heart might be broken, but YOU are not. Your heart will heal and you will love again, I promise. Give yourself time, don’t rush into anything just because being alone is hard. Being alone is better than being with the wrong partner. You are stronger than you think and braver than you imagine. You will get through this. Sending you a tonne of love and strength from the UK ❤️

Ugh ugh ugh. 20 yrs ago one of my closest friends lost her sister to BC that she’d been fighting for years. I had only known her second husband/the kids step dad. After she died and my friend was telling me about the first husband and how her sister was diagnosed when their youngest child was 3 days old. And he left that day. Said HE couldn’t cope with losing HER so it was best all round if he detached now and left. Moved in with a “friend from work” who was female, 15 yrs younger and who he mar…

This is beautiful. So many men would book a trip somewhere THEY wanted to go to, or book a trip that technically ticked the mountain box but didn’t have a spa, or the activity you were pumped about. This amount of consideration and detail is exactly what you deserve. Have a beautiful birthday xxxx

Love the idea of a heist. I’ve just realised that we “met” in 2012 so we have 9 years under our belt which explains why we’ve had so many Ph.D’s/babies/weddings/successes/breakups/house moves/ultra marathons/family feuds/parents lost/sicknesses/channel swims etc between us! There is nothing like having an amazing bunch of women to lean on when things are tough and cheer you on when things are good. I am so lucky to have those 100 or so women (from a group of more than 2k) I’m close enough to to …

Do you know, I met almost all of them on a left leaning feminist beauty Facebook group? The smartest and best women in my life I met because of our shared love of lipstick, powder and paint. I bloody LOVE it when a male friend asked after a party how on earth I met a flight physicist, artist, genius mathematician, literary agent and general secretary of a union on a single web forum and I get to smile and say “oh you know, just girly things like lipstick” Why can’t men understand that women enjo…

This made me smile twice as hard because having a partner who will be emotionally and practically supportive when you do a doctorate is seemingly extremely rare. The number of women I know who have either split with their partner while they are studying or their partners have behaved like such douchebags during the doctoral study that they’ve wished they had. Something which has happened to THREE friends when they’ve been awarded their doctorate is they’ve been proposed to on the same fucking da…

This kind of thing makes me stabby. I don’t work outside of the home because I have health issues that make it impossible for me to be reliable. My husband and I made the decision that he would work full time to support us financially and that my job would be to look after myself, and then with any extra energy I had left, I would take care of the housework/life admin/emotional labour of our families (we don’t have children) but that none of those things would ever be more important than me bein…

I have a friend who has Crohn’s disease and literally has ulcers inside her rectum, agonisingly painful a lot of the time, bleeds a lot etc. She has finally just dumped her LVM because even though he knew that anal is unbearably painful for her and makes her condition worse for days afterwards he still demanded it, guilted her into it, insinuating that if she wouldn’t then he’d find someone who would. Am both proud of her for kicking his ass to the kerb and desperately sad that reading this thre…

I have huge hope for the kids being raised now and in future by FDS and our sisters, that they will ALL look for mutual respect and love in relationships and treat each other fairly and decently as a given. Even amongst women I know to be strong feminists in their opinions they can sometimes slip into treating their sons like little emperors, it’s so ingrained. It takes a conscious, constant checking of yourself and your behaviour sometimes not to reinforce those things we hate.

For sure, and it’s the kind of thing that I try and impress on my nieces, nephews and godchildren. If someone shows you who they are, believe them. If someone doesn’t treat you with respect and consideration when you are DATING then take it no further, don’t move in with them, don’t commit to a mortgage with them, don’t marry them. If their behaviour when they are trying to impress you and win your affection is below par then why would you?

After my first date with my husband (a day out to a nearby town I liked) where I’d mentioned how much I loved reading and he asked me about favourite authors and what I was reading. He dropped me back at my parents house and then two hours later (when I’d take off all my make up and was in my PJ’s damn him) he rings the bell and hands me a package with a book by Stephen Fry which I’d said I really wanted to read. He was really embarrassed about it and mumbled “I think you left this in my car”. I…

Our mods are total queens. Thank you. When I posted the penis bread meme last week I got the messages when everyone responded. Some of the things that thankfully never make it to our general consciousness were UNBELIEVABLE. Like “durrrr stupid feminists, that’s not how it works” from knuckle draggers so dim that they hadn’t even read the meme right. There are assholes just waiting to jump on every post and our mods are the absolute BEST. Never even got to the page thanks to them. LOVE YOU SISTER…

Totally get what you mean. All I can say is that it didn’t feel blamey - it felt like him sharing his genuine opinion. He supported me through rebuilding my self esteem more than anyone, I couldn’t have asked for a more supportive partner. I had a lot of stuff to work through and he never shied away from the messy bits. He has always had my back and treated me with love and respect.

When I first started dating my husband, we were talking about previous relationships, he is older than me and I wanted to understand why he hadn’t already made a life partner match. I recited my woeful story of the coke addict boyfriend who used me for money and treated me horribly. and the alcoholic boyfriend who had been violent and unfaithful and how he’d almost broken me. My beloved (who is quite probably somewhere on the autism spectrum, he sees the world in a very black and white way) look…
