Well no, because humans treat each others as disposable in our "natural state" in nature, as hunter gatherers, aswell. For example, some h-g peoples in Indonesia would kill and exile elderly people who were too old to be helpful, men would kill their sons if they thought they had too weak muscle strength and prepubescent girls were raped as punishment if they heard the men's secret holy music, played with flutes forbidden for women and low status men to hear. (Even children were completely dispo…

It's clearly wrong that most women are asexual. I agree that romantic relationships are transactional, but it's not like either partner keeps track of who gets what and how much, it's more of a subconscious thing, whether they feel happy or not. All relationships are transactional imo, incl family. I recommend going through the detox post, it's interesting and based on research. Only thing I disagree with people here is that love is some sort of magical superpower, whatever it seems like most pe…

What do you think of the research studies in the detox post? What are your views on attraction, relationships, sexuality in general?

I don't think it's only a narrative that any gender is disposable, it comes from how many societies seem to treat its citizens, how friends don't care about you beyond what you can provide, how families care more about their image than you getting the support you need in a time of struggles. afaik this is wide spread and affects both genders but maybe men slightly more in some ways. We humans give ourselves the value we're treated with, right? It's hard to think that anyone is whatever the oppos…

People here are right in attacking the extremes of RP but they tend to go too far in the the other direction.
/r/ExRedPill10/11/21 08:32 PM

Ok but is it still true love in your view if the selection process is "shallow"? (social status, looks, money, etc.) And if one partner would leave the other if they became poor, disabled, disfigured, sick, etc.?
/r/ExRedPill07/11/21 10:11 PM
1

I agree that all relationships rely on value exchange and romantic relationships extremely so. I'm just saying that at old age you're no longer interested in changing partner because they have a lower sexual market value or something. But they still offer something in exchange of course. So if the definition of true love is what I described before, it doesn't exist.
/r/ExRedPill07/11/21 09:30 PM
2

I would guess it's because they're old. They have already choosed their partner for the reasons I mentioned, and at old age no longer have much of a sex drive or care about changing partner anyway.
/r/ExRedPill07/11/21 09:12 PM
1

In my understanding, what people call true love, which I don't think exist, means unconditional love and that your looks, status, and intelligence have no impact on your partners love for you, and you can screw up, become poor, or disabled, disfigured etc. and they still love you because they will always love you.
/r/ExRedPill07/11/21 08:47 PM
1

Define what 'true love' is. I'm not into RP anymore but true love doesn't really exist and you will probably be happier if you gave up on the idea. It depends on what you mean by it, but if it's like most people I'm pretty sure I'm right.

Apologies for the late reply. Ok, so there's evidence that romantic and sexual feelings are different, people can feel romantic love without sexual attraction and people are attracted or at least settle with partners as attractive as themselves, even if hideous? I guess that makes dating slightly less terrible but still pretty damn depressing in my opinion. Because it's still a competition and it still affects your percieved "value" as an individual enormously. (as in your status in the social h…

When I say attractive vs. non-attractive Im not just talking about physical appearance, I mean things like intelligence (which is highly genetic) and personality (somewhat genetic probably). You probably know more than me, but I personally dont believe that sexual attraction is different from romantic attraction and that its impossible to be romantically attracted to someone we arent sexually attracted to. And deep emotional processes are created by our partners genetic fitness - its our brain t…

Do you think that romantic attraction/love is based in, perhaps largely, to traits/good genetics that are useful for evolution? Like health, intelligence, personality traits, beauty etc. One thing I remember from reading a bit about the psychology of what attracts us to people, it's how many "secret messages" we read sub-consciously in the person we're checking out and how it's all about their health and genetic quality. If so, wouldn't that mean that some people simply aren't meant to be able t…

My guess would be because either there's a cultural belief about romantic relationships, which is unrealistic, but people are exposed to it early so it's deeply ingrained. Or, and this is my belief, it's because children in today's societies often do not get enough emotional nurturing they need to be fully independent, so as adults people look for a substitute for the parents unconditional love, which is why some get so upset that you point out that that kind of love doesn't exist between adults…

It's how it is in almost every romantic relationship, isn't it?
/r/ExRedPill08/05/21 07:41 PM

Well, what makes it shallow in my view is that a romantic relationship in general can be so easily broken apart if a person looses sexual status: a financial loss, loss of health, a deforming injury, loss of social status etc. So even if they kept the same moral compass, the same attractive personality, the same intelligence about dealing with life, it doesn't matter much if there's a large loss in sexual status, is what I'm saying. In many people's minds, that makes it a shallow relationship. I…

Just moral behavior in general, caring about acting in accordance with one's morality.

Just because personality is an important factor in why people fall in love doesn't make my perspective wrong. Intelligence and morality are important parts in what makes a personality attractive, both are highly correlated, meaning people with superior intelligence or high IQ are usually more moral than people with low IQ. IQ is also highly correlated with all kinds of other talents, like music. An attractive personality means basically a superior brain, showing that, again, we are all searching…

The "deep, dark places in my mind" might just be observing nature in a honest way. Last time I looked at Natural Geographic, nature is very cruel. I've seen so many threads where parents would answer anonymously online how they felt about their intellectually/physically/otherwise challenged children, and many admitted that they are unable to feel love for their challenged children. A woman with an intelletually disabled son described the "disgust" she felt for him, and how she had learned to acc…

Humans can form pretty strong bonds for an animal but that doesn't mean that love is unconditional. For example, in hunter-gatherer tribes it's common that elderly people commit suicide when they are too old to keep up with the tribes movement. This prevents them from being a burden on the tribe.

I absolutely agree with you, except that we may think of what shallow means here in different ways. I meant that people seem to, in my experience, like to believe that when they fall in love or have a long-term romantic relationship the love is less conditional than it usually is: they can loose sexual status and the person they're with would still be in love with them, and that the love is less about their sexual status and more about their "soul" or a "fate": something imagined that is somehow…

I don't know. But then I was an abused child so maybe I'm fucked up. But look at the state of the world. Does it look like overall humanity is a lovable creature? Seriously? Did you know that yelling at suicidal people to jump is a common occurrence at such scenes? Seriously google it. https://www.reddit.com/r/iamatotalpieceofshit/comments/mzkh9a/onlookers_encourage_man_to_jump_laught_at_him_and/ Like the primates we're closely related to, humans are hierarchical and violent.

Can you explain more how it can be a choice? It's not like we can control our brain's chemistry.
/r/ExRedPill07/05/21 07:23 PM

Agreed. Sometimes a strong bond is formed, but I would imagine that it is very rare, and that if a person is struggling with financial problems or an illness, their genetic quality was probably high enough to make them have value despite it.

I think one reason might be because the culture tells men that being successful with women is an important part of being a "real man", and if you're not you should be ashamed of yourself. Also patriarchy and male entitlement I think makes some men react with resentment when they learn that they have to put some effort into being attractive to someone and that women will judge them. Perhaps there's some widespread childhood trauma underneath that resentment too, low self esteem I'm thinking from …

Work on healing the trauma. It's probably the root of all your difficulties. If you're socially awkward, chances are you're not aware of everything you that is making you awkward - if you did you wouldn't be awkward. Again, trauma is the cause of that.
/r/ExRedPill15/04/21 01:02 AM

I'll try to reply to some things you've said, though I'm not very knowledgable in psychology and hardly a wise person. If the people you date have power over you and your self-esteem, it's only because you haven't healed your trauma. A person who got their needs met as a child and develop optimally can handle life's dissappointments, like a love interest not feeling the same, without it hurting their sense of self-worth. Anything less than that is trauma. Gabor Maté, an expert in parenting and c…

Gabor Maté would probably say that most of them if not all have been traumatized in childhood, which stunts a persons development, makes them socially akward, easily ashamed, deeply hurt by rejection, and full of rage from not having had their needs met as children. With trauma I don't necessarily mean the overt kinds, like physical, emotional, sexual abuse or neglect, but also covert trauma, when a child lacks emotionally attuned, nurturing, present adults. Parents who are well meaning but simp…

What if people objectively are better than yourself? Like if you're neuro-atypical. People obviously notice it that will treat you differently, if not somewhat disrespectful. Many men are competitive and compare themselves to other men.

There seem to be many men (not on RP) online who say that their girlfriends/wives became less attracted to them, told them to "man up", etc.,when they showed vulnerability in the relationship. Is there any truth to this thing?

Thanks for the reply. Since people with autism can vary so much in levels of ability it sounds strange to make a study that includses all people with autism. Some people don't have anything going for them to compensate for their unattractive traits though, and as a result struggle immensely with being attractive to anyone. Even if these dating forums prefers to keep an optimistic spirit, and for understandable reasons, I think it should be admitted that some people will struggle, and not recognizing their plight might alienate them and make them even more angry I think. What if you're so unlikable you couldn't even find 5 friends? There really is a hole in this message about toxic shame since humans are wired to need acceptance, respect and status among other people to feel good about ourselves. We may hate to admit it but it's true, and some people just aren't likable no matter what they do.

Thanks for that positive reply. I can see that it's men who have less expectations to perform in bed than women. It seems I worded my question badly. I meant that pleasing your partner as a man is seen as an important part of masculinity, and that it's seen as shameful of men to demand the same efforts from their partners.
/r/ExRedPill04/03/21 05:12 PM
2

This is wonderfully written but I have a question I'd like to get an answer to. Sorry if it's negative. What if you actually have some kind of flaw with you that interfers with your ability to not be a burden on others, be likable, successful etc? Humans are group animals and if others just don't like us that much for things outside of our control can we still get rid of self-shame?
/r/ExRedPill04/03/21 10:59 AM

I suspected that. It seems like this extreme definition of feminism might be common. I remember reading in a leftist subreddit that Mark Manson, a self help author, said he is not a feminist, despite that his views on gender roles and opinion that society must create a new type of masculinity were said to be perfectly alinged with feminism.

Excellent advice. We can't force anybody to change, the will needs to come from within. However these dysfunctional people are in deep pain and traumatized and punishing them for their behavior might only deepen their problems. But also withdraw of course if being with them causes problems for us.

If I would recommend a book to your friend, it's From Surviving To Thriving by Pete Walker. But he also shows research that shows that women and men are as picky when they choose a partner for a serious relationship. Women are pickier he says when choosing partners for casual sex, but only because of a fear of men. Statistically dating men is the most dangerous thing women does in life. But when offered casual sex with men they are familiar with they are as likely to accept as men, according to research, so the pickyness about casual sex is not some inherent trait. Have you read any of the research RedPillDetox posts when he claims hypergamy as an inherent thing in women doesnt exist? He might have something to say about the things youve linked. I know too little myself to form an opinion one way or another, except that RedPillDetoxs research and views is convincing and seems honest.

I think that while we might have some preferences, in the end what we all seek is someone as mentally and physically healthy as possible with as high quality genetic material and resources as possible. There are exceptions of course. While I was talking about people having different value as sexual partners, it seems to me that people are often treated as if they have different values generally aswell. Even children Ive seen, and I think it all goes back to the value of your genetic material for…

Sexuality is at its core about finding someone with high quality genetics and good resources so you can take care of children + improve or maintain the genetic quality of humanity, so we do assess the "quality" of people when we become attracted to them.

Didnt RedPillDetox disprove this evo-psych theory when he said that hunter-gatherers mate fairly equally between men and women? And that many divorces are initiated by women Ive heard is because many men in society are bad at having good relationships, caused by how men are taught to supress their emotions which makes them less mature.

Man, you're a friggin' beast. You rock! Is this from your coming post about hypergamy? If you want I can delete this thread if the information I shared could confuse other guys besides me aswell. A thousand thanks! If I was rich I would send you some kind of ridiculous gift.

I thought so too. The kind of feminism I've read at r/menslib and mark manson (who refuse to call himself feminist) seems to make sense to me. I suspect this guy and mark manson stay away from or are hostile to the word feminism because its good for their businesses. He said reading about evo-psych is a must and was promoting a book he had written about it. I thought evo-psych is a highly controversial science because it's all just a bunch of theories which are impossible to both prove or dispro…

If this man is correct that feminism is the equalent to red pill and have an equally nonsense world view, wouldnt the feministic rebuttal if its also dishonest undermine attempts at lessening red pills popularity? If so, would a critique of feminisms rebuttal be worth making and adding to exredpill?

I've heard it explained as men and women behave differently but are actually more similar than different beneath the surface. What do you think?

As a guy who hopes to have some kind of genuine connection with a woman, it made me very sad to "find out" that relationships are always some costs vs. returns mating game.

As Gabor Maté would explain, abuse is only one cause of trauma. There's the so called "soft" traumas, for example one extremely common one is stressed parents, which is enough to traumatize and interfer with healthy brain development of a child as the stress is transferred to the child and prevents parents from being attuned to the child, which makes him feel abandoned. Lots of people can't remember any abuse and therefore think they have no trauma while still struggling with various symptoms.

Sorry you had that experience. About impulsive anger, I've done that too. Impulsivity and poor control over emotions are typical symptoms of trauma. I hope you look into it.

I saw the reply you wrote before you sent this one. I say this with compassion, that I think you were very hurt, probably in childhood (as was I) and I would urge you to learn about trauma and why it can be hard to know we were sometimes. I highly recommend Gabor Maté's lectures about trauma on Youtube for a start.

I understand it's a tiresome topic for you and thank you for the reply. I will follow your advice and look up the research. Looking forward to the post when it's written. Good luck. Do you know of/have any advice on finding research about men not being interested in long term relationships vs women being interested?

My impression was that, while the original meaning of the word hypergamy means to marry someone with more resources than yourself, the way it's typically used on Reddit means being pickier than the opposite sex on average about just general attractiveness, which may or may not mean resources. But perhaps I've misunderstood. I did see people say that the reason for women's choosiness is because most men are bad, discomforting people (and a small minority are dangerous mentally ill people which mu…

The point isn't that men aren't also as picky as they can get away with being, it's that they have far less options generally I think.

Me too. Although I appreciate this sub, I often feel like people here are generally way too optimistic in a way that is sometimes denying of reality. Another gruesome statistic is that the average lifespan of autistic people is around 35 years old due to the very high suicide rate. I've always felt and seen clear evidence that my parents, and people trying to be friends, felt ashamed of me. I remember a Youtuber with autism who said when she was diagnosed her parents broke contact with her and d…

Maybe trauma-expert Gabor Maté's saying that "only when there is compassion will people allow themselves to be vulnerable and see the truth" would be good to keep in mind. He also says all behaviors serve some kind of helpful purpose to the individual, no matter how harmful and illogical they may seem.

I think the statistic was repeated here by someone with autism. I don't know what thread though. I meant that whether or not we want or can have offspring, its still the biggest determining force in our un-consciousness about who we fall in love with. I guess what I'm getting at is that the love so many seem to dream about doesn't exist.

I'm not criticizing Peterson for having different opinions - that is fine - but for lying about research. I recommend you give the subreddit Enoughpetersonspam a try - people there has produced a long list of examples of Peterson lying about research.

I've seen enough evidence of Peterson lying when talking about psychology with seemingly an agenda to make men resent women that I refuse to listen to him talking about anything.

The "evidence" I have myself is: Men online who keeps saying women are pickier over and over The evolutionary psychology-theories: 1, because you need many women and just a few/a single man to create enough children in a tribe, village etc, + the price of pregnancy, evolution has made women pickier - 2, men have always done more dangerous tasks through out human evolution and are instinctually seen as having less inherent worth, and must prove themselves. I was told online about a test however w…

It's often claimed that it's very hard or even impossible to say what's "natural" human behavior. But if we looked at hunter-gatherer tribes that still exists, my understanding is that they're often monogamous and most men ends up with a partner.
