Haha, okay buddy. Follow your own advice and try reading some more books, maybe you'll catch up

Accepting myself for who I am right now. Unearthing a deeply held sense of incompetence and just embracing the feeling and learning that it's okay to feel incompetent, and it often makes sense. Learning that incompetence does not equal rejection. Reconnecting with emotions and allowing myself to be guided more by my feelings than by some socially prescribed nonsense that doesn't work for me. Essentially, learning that the sense of being lesser and unworthy was a lesson I had been taught that I n…

If that works for you, then great. But it's not the solution for everyone, and I think it's harmful advice for some people, and it sure as shit didn't work for me. The source of insecurity is not your flaws, it is usually more complicated than that. Digging beneath the surface and unearthing the actual reason (usually some internalized belief about the self and others) is a more stable way to resolve this.

I am not a huge fan of this advice. You're essentially telling himself to exhaust himself so as to be unaware of the insecurity. It might help if this is a transient phase, but it sounds like this is a deeply rooted issue with self esteem. The solution is to build self esteem, not feed the demands of your insecurity. Building self esteem is about developing a realistic understanding of yourself and your strengths, weaknesses, and insecurities. Own your flaws and realize they don't make you any l…

I don't think specialists on personality disorders would agree with that. Personality disorders are distinct to complex trauma, although they all have some form of complex trauma in their development. Psychodynamic theories tend to be the more useful theories to use when describing personality disorders rather than the DSM, since the DSM does not really understand the construct of personality. Personality disorders tend to be from disruptions in the normal development of ones personality due to …

They are branches of the same tree, in that they are both disorders that result from abuse and serious mis-attunement between the child and caregivers. The difference between the two is typically about the core wounds that the personality disorder develops around. Someone with NPD will have a deep sense of worthlessness and never feeling like they are good enough, the personality disorder provides a shield against those crushing feelings, and there are many different ways that shield can look. B…

Nah it's extreme isolation and relational trauma. These people probably feel incredibly terrible about themselves because they have been made to feel that way in their formative relationships and have had subsequent relationships during development that reinforce that belief.

You're not failing or anything there. There isn't much you can do about their trauma other than be with them and support them as much as you can. The best thing that you can do for your partner is to try to maintain your own mental stability so that you can manage the shame that you're feeling for not being able to help. If you are feeling safe and steady it will likely help your partner to regulate in those moments.

The thing about trauma is that what trauma is telling us is often a lie. It is a reaction rooted in old memories and being guided by trauma will invariably lead to problems. Triggers are your brain telling you there is danger, and if one is traumatised that compass is often overly sensitive and reactive, perceiving danger where there is none and seeking safety and comfort. There is a hollow comfort and security in self righteousness, but it comes at the cost of self reflection and recovery from …

Ah interesting, well that ain't me, just don't really know how else to say it. I actually think that the way feminism has been so quickly and widely adopted is largely because it is such a good thing for capitalism, you're literally doubling the workforce

Yeah, I had to block that sub. Almost every day there was something posted there that just made my skin crawl. It's so bizarre to me that people say shit like that about this trial, it's seems like some critical thinking faculties of some people just shut off when something like this comes up. The evidence is just so not on Amber's side, like she has literally nothing backing her up. She took pictures of Johnny passed out and of his drugs but forgot to take pictures of all the brutal assaults th…

This is exactly the lack of nuance in discussion I am talking about. I just have not been convinced by the tenets of feminism, it does not match my lived experience and paints far too simple of a picture of the world Example: I support the right to have abortions. I don't believe anti-abortion sentiments stem from a desire of men to control the autonomy of women. However, I understand that the primary victims of such a law are girls and women (although men will be affected as well, but to a less…

Why is this the thing you get hung up on? I feel like there are things much more worthy of discussion here than this little nit pick. The reason is what the commenter below says, I don't know the history of feminism and I didn't live through those eras so I am not in a position to make an observations based judgement on the movement back then

Fair enough. I have formed an opinion on this, but that's based on the assumption (which I am quite confident in) that Amber will provide nothing of substance in her testimonies. She has just given me absolutely no reason to trust a word that comes out of her mouth, and many reasons not to. So far my gut seems to be right, everything about her testimony screams manipulation and a gross attempt to garner sympathy and play upon the tendency of people to be trusting (like who the fuck would lie abo…

Why are you waiting for the courts to decide? You have access to just about the same information as the jury

I have exactly the same frustration with ADHD. It's vastly more common in men and there are a hell of a lot of men who have slipped through the cracks (as well as many men and boys who have been misdiagnosed due to ADHD misinformation), but people only seem to give a fuck when it has something to do with women. I also don't know how to bring it up because, you know, the moment you push back against "womens issues" puts you in dangerous waters

The people calling for him to be locked and throw away the keys are wrong. The people calling him an innocent patriot are also delusional. He is responsible for the deaths of several people, whether or not he is legally guilty of murder. He went to a messy situation and escalated shit by bringing a gun. He is a dumbass with a hero complex. This is why I try to separate my political identity from "left" and "right" and preder the term "progressive". I want evolution and change but I don't agree w…

I think it's amazing that you made this space, it is clear that your (and the communities) effort has really helped people find a voice and feel heard. It must be extremely difficult being the focal point for all the vitriol and hate coming from feminist ideologues, I know this sort of thing can be emotionally taxing and I hope that you are also keeping an eye on your own mental wellbeing. I wish people would remember that no matter who we are, men, women, nonbinary, autistic, ADHD, queer, strai…

Those are all crazy statistics. I get the impression that there are a huge number of confounding variables in the data though. I think it would take a great deal of research to determine how much of those issues stem from absence of a father vs the additional variables associated with fatherless households, such as socioeconomics, effect of a single parent (including motherless) household, etc. I would be shocked if these statistics would apply to a household with lesbian parents, for example.

Excellently said. The cognitive dissonance is shocking. But I do believe there is a significant group of practicing and academic psychiatrists who are beginning to recognize how the mental health system is failing boys and men. It's still an uphill battle, but the suicide discrepancy is something concrete that can help strengthen the position of male mental health advocacy that can't be easily brushed aside. I get extremely frustrated every time people cry about "we need more women in STEM", com…

It is so frustrating that the only real discussion around male mental health stems from the suicide discrepency, men have to kill themselves to be taken seriously apparently. Even with this, the conversation will always steer towards gender discrepencies in suicide attempts and depression and anxiety rates. I read a study that looked into the reasoning behind the gender disparity in anxiety and depression rates and it concluded that the DSM criteria for those disorders were based mostly on femal…
