Meh, in powerlifting from my personal experience- anyone can learn to bench, squat, and deadlift. Just need to be hard on them and reinforce proper set ups and techniques. I've trained my stoner friends and they've put on good size and strength. It's all about being a good coach plus weight training should be a tool to build confidence as well.

Well any aspects of training can have its risks when being reckless. Powerlifting has weight classes, depending on the program and training philosophy you'll have high volume in your weekly training, a good powerlifter/athlete will still do some conditioning for overall health(depending on the person). but most importantly powerlifting is pride, There's no money, no TV exposure, just the joy of being strong and the natural high you get from it. May not be everyone's cup of tea but I recommend it…
