“The women here are wicked smart and know so much. they're like my big sisters, mom's, and grandma's I never had. I can't see myself being anywhere else!” Aww, you worded this perfectly, this is how I feel about FDS! ❤️

Great advice. The last part you mentioned about taking notes of other people he associates with, especially other men, is something that really stuck out to me. I’m dealing with a creepy neighbour also so reading comments like this is really helpful. To OP, that guy sounds sooo sketchy, please be careful! Like everyone else has mentioned, cameras would be a great idea, locks on your windows, change your bedroom and bathroom doorknobs to a locking one, etc. Also wooden dowels on your windows woul…

Yess, every Doberman who I’ve known has been the biggest sweetheart!! Used to spend all day snuggling my friend’s Doberman while he was at work, he was such a big baby and a sucker for attention, he was so loyal though and would guard those he loved with his life. I hope I can get a dog again one day, I felt so safe with the Doberman around. His bark was terrifying so if you didn’t know him, you’d think he was gonna maul you to pieces lol.

Oh, what a wonderful way of dealing with that situation!! I’ll have to remember this one, so clever. I wish I had a dog, really want a Doberman again but I’m not sure if it’d be safe with my kitten. I used to live with a friend who had a big Doberman and always felt safe with him around, he was a big dog with a scary bark, but super cuddly with me. It was great.

Reading that just made me roll my eyes, like does this dude think he’s better than people who listen to rap? There’s soooo much variety and great rap, it’s so annoying when people act like they’re “above” listening to certain genres of music. It’s okay to not be into certain genres of music but to say all of it is bad, is quite a stretch. I’ve had a few exes judge me for listening to rap and they acted like they were so much more intelligent/better than me because they listened to METAL AND ONLY…

Oh, I love doing this!! It’s so fun to spend hours window shopping for properties. “5mil for this property? Not bad, seems very reasonable! I’ll have that as my Summer home, maybe add a guest house nearby to use as an AirBnB for extra income! Perfect!!! Now I need to find a Winter property, and….”!😆 I get sooo invested in daydreaming sometimes, it’s a lot of fun and relaxing too.😅

I’m definitely dealing with a stalker and I’m so over it. I wish I could just live far away from everyone and be left alone. One of my neighbours ALWAYS comes outside whenever I’m on my balcony and stands below my balcony and stares, whistles, etc. Doesn’t matter what time it is or how long I’m out there, he’ll stay right out there staring up at the balcony. I’ve tried hiding behind some chairs on my balcony and sneaking out but he still does it and when I go inside, if he doesn’t go right back …

BC has always had such a negative effect on me, each type I tried was terrible and no better than the other. Getting an IUD inserted was traumatic and I was given no pain relief, the nurse seemed annoyed when it took me 2 hours to sit up and get off the table afterwards and said it was only “a pinch”. I bled nonstop for days, couldn’t stop vomiting, felt terribly depressed out of nowhere when I was happy before, having multiple panic attacks a day, and a violent stabbing pain around my lower abd…

“An ugly/insecure man will NEVER treat you better because he’s grateful you gave him a chance. He will tear you down so you don’t have the confidence to leave him.” Facts!! 👏 👏 👏 They’re also usually threatened and jealous of the wonderful qualities you possess so they try to tear you down because they know they can’t measure up. I was in an abusive relationship for 5 years and he tore my self esteem down into the ground, I truly believed all the mean things he said to me about myself and that n…

Same!! My mother and the rest of my family never let me do anything like that, even when I asked to be taught. They’d always say I would get hurt and it’s not something girls do. 😑 In the past few years I’ve been teaching myself how to use tools and fix things, and I’ve had the help of two friends who’ve worked in construction teach me a lot too. It feels so empowering to do things myself and it’s actually really FUN! Not a stressful experience of things being thrown around, swearing, and anger.…

Yes!! I used to know so many guys who were into Burning Man/etc and they’re all “polyamorous”, the amount of drama I witnessed over the years I was friends with people in that crowd.. Fuck that. I wish I had more to add but what you said here was amazing and full of so much truth. I love this community for standing up against this industry that takes advantage of so many women. I was unfortunately coerced into doing porn a few years ago, and I feel strongly against it and it’s consumption.

I just Googled those birds, they’re so cute!! Lucky you!! Birds are such fun pets to have. 😊 I used to have a parakeet when I was in elementary school, he was a sky blue colour. Right now I have a tuxedo kitten who is my little baby, love her so much. 💙 I want to get her another kitten friend in the upcoming months though so she has more company when I’m out of the house. My grandmother said something close to me after I left a 5 year physically and emotionally abusive relationship. I just laughed at her LOL. She’s been a permanent gf to some guy for 13 years and feels worthless without a man, I’d rather be single my entire life than live anything like hers. I’d be miserable. If a guy isn’t going to treat me like a queen he can get losttttttt. 🤣

That’s sweet, reminds me of a similar situation I was in recently. I hope things keep going well with you two. I had to get surgery a few weeks ago and couldn’t really take care of anything myself so my bf stayed at my house for 2 weeks and took care of EVERYTHING for me. He helped me get in and out of bed, fed my kitten, changed her litter box daily (her nickname is Stinker for a reason LOL), held my hair while I puked, did ALL of my laundry which had been piling up for a bit before my surgery …

Yeah, I don’t really trust men anymore after how many traumatic experiences I’ve had with them. I always feel unsafe when I have to take transit or an Uber alone. In the past I’ve been sexually assaulted, physically assaulted, and been threatened at gun point. When I’ve gone to the police after these incidents, nothing was ever done about it either. Even when I had visible cuts and bruises all over me, male AND female cops laughed at me and told me to shut the f up. I used to be friends with mai…

My goals this month: Read more of the book I bought for myself on Kindle, Complex CPTSD: From Surviving to Thriving. I have read through most of the book but I needed to take a break from reading that and think about the things that resonated with me, and handle the heavy feelings that came up. The book has helped me a lot with understanding myself and some behaviours/actions of mine that I didn’t have terms for before which has been beneficial, so I’d like to finish reading that book. Reminds me of my mother. She’d always date guys who yelled at me, insulted me, threatened to kick me out, etc, when I was growing up. One of her boyfriends hit me when I was 16. I feel sad for this little girl, the impact from emotional abuse like that can last a lifetime. I hope she ends up alright and that woman leaves him so her daughter isn’t subjected to that for even longer. The daughter was being empathetic and caring, she doesn’t deserve that. Nobody should yell at a child like that. It …

For sure! Your post really spoke to me and I wanted to share my support with you. ❤️ That’s great you’re working with a therapist and feel that way towards your daughter. That’s such a huge thing and you sound like you have great intentions. Literally a conversation I had with a pickme on/off friend a few weeks ago.. (Complicated friendship and one I’m having a hard time letting go of despite the fact she mostly brings hurt into my life.) UGH. She was being rude then said it’s only a issue because I feel like it’s an issue, she doesn’t have any issue. I told her to get out of my house and she yelled at me while refusing to leave. Yes I am responsible for my feelings but it’s not unreasonable for me to react to rude behaviour and men…

What’s the title called for that podcast on Spotify? I’m interested in listening but haven’t been able to find it. Regarding original topic: Surrogacy is something I’m really uncomfortable with the thought of and I’d say I’m against it. Surrogacy seems exploitative and wrong. Love this! Best way to respond to that sort of thing because what they want is a reaction and you can’t win by arguing with them, but by not engaging. It’s fun when someone tries to get a reaction out of you but can’t. Either that or simply walking away!

Same. It happens to me often in my neighbourhood lately. Either that or they slow down, block my way, and then follow me around the block a few times. When I was 12 walking home from the park, a car hit me and then the driver yelled at me. The driver behind him was a nurse and she yelled at him for trying to drive away, while two other women nearby stood in front of his car so he couldn’t drive away and they called paramedics. That experience was really traumatic for me. I’m glad OP posted this …

Yes, Canada is terrible for this! I hate not being able to carry around things like tasers or pepper spray for self defence. ☹️ This weekend, I was cornered on an empty skytrain by two men asking me if I was “working”, I tried ignoring them and just stayed silent until my stop. I’ve never met a HVM on a dating website. Although I did meet a HVM through some friends of an awful guy I dated for a year off an OLD site in 2014. Dated HMV for 6 months but parted ways amicably. I appreciate the time we had together and look back on it fondly, he was the first boyfriend who treated me like an absolute queen and helped me learn a lot about myself. He helped set the bar way higher for how I want to be treated in a relationship. We still speak occasionally, he seems really happy…

Oof, same. A guy I was seeing last year would immediately stop whatever we were doing if I came too close to having an orgasm or actually enjoyed myself rather than just focus on him. It was so humiliating, I felt like he was trying to punish me in a sense, and make me feel like I didn’t deserve to feel good as well. I’d always go above and beyond for him to make sure he enjoyed himself and orgasmed multiple times (basically every single time, ugh) but my pleasure wasn’t important. I usually did…

This happened to me as well in elementary and high school, can’t believe I forgot about that for so long. I used to love wearing dresses and skirts but stopped wearing them for years in school due to boys doing that. I always felt gross when it happened, teachers never believed me and I’d usually get in trouble just for bringing it up. I couldn’t stop crying on those days, they ruined something really sweet for me. I loved dressing up but never felt comfortable after that. For years, I dressed i…

My grandmother’s life revolves around her bf sitting on the couch, watching sports, ignoring her unless it’s about her making dinner or fetching something for him, playing poker with his “buddies” for hours (avoiding her), while she does all of his laundry, does all the dishes, the grocery shopping, reminding him to pay bills, reminding him to do this/that, cleans the entire house, fetches him drinks, he can’t fix anything around the house (my grandma still calls my Grandfather to help her with …

Same here. It’s gotten worse since I’ve been single and I’m so over it. I used to believe men and women could be “just friends” but unless there’s absolutely zero attraction between the two, I don’t feel like it’s really possible anymore. That’s been my experience, at least. It’s exhausting and I feel lonely most of the time but I’d rather spend time with my cat than hanging out with someone who is just expecting me to sleep with them just because they’re nice to me.

Reading this made me angry, it reminds me of how many people I dealt with not believing me that my ex constantly beat me and tried to k*ll me. Saying “She would be running out of your house as if her life depended on it. I have a law degree and I can see that that...” is so ignorant! Everyone reacts differently to abuse! It’s not easy to leave an abuser, either.

This has been my experience as well, with the exception of one guy. 🙄I’m really not into watching my partner with someone else. It’s not fun, exciting, or anything like that. It’s just uncomfortable for me and I hate that I ever let a guy convince me to have a threesome with another girl. I ended up crying afterwards and he wouldn’t stop talking about her for a while. Fuck that lol.

I’ve heard of people doing that before but idk. I just remember my ex wouldn’t use soap and like he’d come home sweaty as fuck and have tons of dirt/sawdust/ink/etc on him because he worked at a factory and he reeked even after a shower and somehow still be dirty. The smell was REALLY bad. His hygiene took a huge nosedive before we broke up. My face kept breaking out and my skin would be super itchy whenever I’d sleep beside him in bed so I had to start sleeping on the couch. It was awful.

Right? It was so stupid. He said it was costing way too much. He placed the blame on me for his money being gone.. over toilet paper.. like sure, it definitely couldn’t be because of how much he spent on alcohol and getting takeout daily. Totally my fault somehow.😳🤷‍♀️

Wtf did I just read. Ugh. Horrific memories are coming to mind now. One guy I was seeing for 9 months used to yell at me for using “too much” toilet paper when we lived together.. like ???? Sorry for wanting to be clean? What else am I supposed to use after I go pee? He started hiding rolls of toilet paper from me and yelled at me for using shampoo that we shared. He yelled at me for a lot of things but I remember feeling humiliated when he yelled about the toilet paper. He made me feel like I w…

I started carrying a small knife in my purse due to how many times I’ve been followed by men in cars, been followed home, or had them get out of their cars and chase me down the street. It’s terrifying. I’d love to be able to go outside to parks and in forests without fear but I refuse to do so after how many bad experiences I’ve had. It’s unfortunate because I love nature but the world really isn’t a safe place for women.

My mother was the same. Due to her abuse, I ended up in a lot of bad relationships and surrounded myself with toxic friendships. She used to yell at me daily and tell me that nobody was ever going to love me, nobody was ever going to put up with me, that I was annoying, and a burden. My ex of 5 years used to say my mother was right, and that he felt the same. I’m glad to be away from them both but unlearning the years of having that concept drilled into my mind has been difficult. I used to beli…

I brought a kitten home 3 days ago and I’m so in love! For the last few months, I’ve been really depressed but having her around has made a huge difference. It’s like a night and day change, I feel motivated and determined to be at my absolute best with her around. I have more of a sense of purpose again, someone aside from myself to look after. My ex would always leave the house a disaster when he left for work, dirty/sweaty/stinky clothes and empty beer cans everywhere, plates, garbage, etc. It was so disgusting, like there’s no way to truly convey how bad it was without a picture. 🤮 But I’m sure all of you can imagine it quite well. So true. But.. Removing toxic people from your life and surrounding yourselves with people who want to see you successful is life-changing. I have removed a lot of people from my life who seemed to enjoy my suffering. They would give unsolicited “advice”, insult me or my choices subtlety or outright, talk to me as if I’m beneath them and they knew more than me, treat me as if I’m overreacting when I call them out for being rude. I cut all contact with him in August, that’s been a huge step in the right direction for me. Lots of people have had issues with him being abusive and gas lighting them from what I’ve heard since we “broke up”. He tried to get in contact with me a while ago but I ignored him. I ran into him unexpectedly when I was out a while ago and he yelled at me for no reason. He’s such a bitter person. I just went through a breakup and most of my friends were somewhat toxic so I’ve distanced myself from a lot of them and completely cut ties with a few. I’m not willing to keep trying to make one-sided friendships work. It was taking so much out of me and I lost myself in the process. Not worth it. But lately, I feel really lonely, it sucks. I kind of wish I had more friends to talk to. I’ve been taking time to focus on myself and get back into my hobbies like painting, and photography, which ha…
