Right wing authoritarian populism is fascism. Look at these signs and make a convincing argument against them. The 14 characteristics are: Powerful and Continuing Nationalism Fascist regimes tend to make constant use of patriotic mottos, slogans, symbols, songs, and other paraphernalia. Flags are seen everywhere, as are flag symbols on clothing and in public displays. Disdain for the Recognition of Human Rights Because of fear of enemies and the need for security, the people in fascist regimes a…

She represented the status quo. She was the continuation of neo liberal politics that has fucked the working class. Social mobility in the US has been hammered and centrist liberals like Clinton have nothing but contempt for the white working class and their lack of education and sophistication. Minorities can be patronized as the deserving poor because they suffer from systemic disadvantages. To recognize that the white working class also suffer systemic disadvantage would be to admit that the …

I don’t know how anyone who keeps their eyes open and observes human nature can come to the conclusion that women are more moral than men. Behavior between the sexes is different but that is largely driven by the difference in physical strength and the different tactics of success. The same goodness, the same badness, the same generousness, the same pettiness, the instinct to protect, the willingness to bully. I really don’t understand the picture painted that male behaviors are inherently toxic…

The lack of care for male victims is so callous but even staunch man haters should realize it’s beneficial. It’s always amazed me the “let’s fix things for women before we help men” attitude that pervades certain issues. It’s so fucking obvious that a percentage of young boys who are abused will propagate that cycle and become abusers. So caring for boys is protecting women. I really don’t get it but lots of politics is complete short term power grab nonsense so why gender politics be any differ…

Maybe it’s based on movies and tv. A little like how some men have been conditioned to think that being super nice or big gestures can win over a girl.

Men should get better at opening up to other men. They handle it in different ways but it can still be good. I read the forum and it’s fucking cheeky. The amount of time I have spent dealing with a partners emotional dumping, and most guys I know have also. In my experience women often dump their emotions on their partners, they just don’t like it when it comes back as it adds to their anxiety.

Sometimes a movement and it’s members are different things. Often the most extreme voices shout loudest and have a distorting influence from the main body of more reasonable people. The MRA community is an example of this but you can see it with other demographics. The other factor is many movements get hijacked by a professional class within that movement.

It’s because they look up from their own position in society and see a lot of white men. If you are further down that ladder you see a wider variety of people around you and further up on the ladder. So part of it is a perspective thing. If they bothered to look down they would also see a ton of men and women of all colors that don’t have privilege. But it’s part of the status game they like to play. Feminism has some noble ideals but it’s practical outputs have often been to give elite women th…

It’s another stage of the destruction of the MSM. Which I don’t know is a good thing. I had hoped that the rise in alternate media would make them more honest but at this stage they are almost gaslighting us about so many issues. He has won in social media terms and with most people following the trial. The mainstream are still doing everything they can to present him as a monster and downplay what she has done or said. So it remains to be seen what portion of the public will believe her if the trial ends with him not winning based on no unanimous decision from the jury and her not winning her counter suit. I would suspect that the MSM will go all in for him being a monster and her being innocent if that occurs.

Went outside of the strict boundary for showing emotion or vulnerability. It’s only acceptable occasionally in an other wise strong and stable guy. Because it makes people feel special when those barriers briefly come down. They don’t actually want to have an emotional man.

Ask them about young boys. At what age does a baby boy become culpable for the historic crimes of anyone with a penis Also ask them to apply that logic to other groups. Are all Germans born after WW2 guilty of the holocaust, Are all Muslims accountable for Islamic terrorism? What guilt do your family have in the damage US (I assume you are from the US) neo imperialism does to other nations. You could also point out that the majority of child abuse is perpetrated by women and ask if all women are…

I suppose it’s a definitional issue. If you define a man as someone with a penis then the range of behaviors men can exhibit is pretty unlimited. This has gotten better over my lifetime. Unfortunately you can still be judged by both sexes if you deviate from the proscribed behaviors. If you define men as a range of particular behaviors then men can’t be feminine.

I don’t think we do have equal ancestors. I think we have twice as many female as male ancestors. Which indicates over half of men in history never passes on their genes. Whether this is due to hypergamy, men dying earlier at greater rates, or successful men monopolizing women is probably up for debate. But anthropological studies suggest most ancestral humans were pretty equal. There was a hierarchy but most tribes didn’t have one dude with a harem gorilla style.

I’m not sure if they see it as too hard, or they are tacitly approving of the system (the “moderate left wing”) and want to see incremental reform. It should be obvious that the only socio economic reform is to the right. They can’t all be so naive.

Spent 12 years in the military. From the UK. Joined up due to lack of opportunity and a vague feeling that a man should serve. The American right is far closer to fascism than the Democratic Party is to communism. The movement should be defined in terms that can be understood by the bulk of the populace. And if you have a better term than fascist that conveys the right amount of concern then please enlighten me. Because we are in deep shit and just because the boy has cried wolf before, it doesn’t mean no wolf is abroad.

I agree that the everyday use of fascism has degraded its meaning. How would you describe what is happening in the US? Neo nazis openly walking in Washington? Members of congress sharing videos of simulated murder of their colleagues? The overt corruption and draconian policing? The overt attempts to subvert/rig elections. Does it really matter that the specific historical transcendental criteria are not met?

And you don’t think there is anything spiritual about the Christian Right? American exceptionalism has always had a good versus evil aspect to it, and if you look at the Reagan revolution and latterly the Neo-cons of the bush era, they have had an overt ideology of good vs evil as a unifying cause in order to solidify the US and project imperial power. Make America great again is clearly a rebirth narrative that can be analogous to Mussolini’s call backs to the Roman Empire. And it was the Third…

And do you want Latin American style inequality? I mean most of those states have been right wing dictatorship or military dictatorships (or both). Is that ok as long as it doesn’t fit whatever definition of fascism you have adhere to? What is your definition?

Ok. So the hyper corporatism and hyper nationalism. Cronyism Authoritarian leadership Militarized police. An “other” to place blame on national decline. Yeah. What’s hyperbolic about it? I mean the people on the event are the same crowd we are used to poking fun at, ignorant and foolish, often old and fat. But the fact that it was a shit attempt at a coup doesn’t discount the fact that it’s was an attempted coup. The more worrying thing is that the instigators are just gonna get away with it and it strengthened them. I am a guy, describing my relationship with my ex-wife. The ex wife part is stated in the message. I think this was my original point. At no point in the definition of emotional labor is the category of “wife dumping emotional mess on husband” ever brought up and it can be both time consuming and emotionally taxing. It feels like this is something that it’s assumed a partner is there for. I did it because I wanted to support her but it’s a relief not to have that labor anymore. She sometimes still tries it but I try and get out of there ASAP. Not my job anymore.

We are divorced. I think this was one of the problems, she had been told she could have it all and she believed it. She was really affected by social media (everyone is doing better than I am). Rationally she knew this was not true but couldn’t square her emotions with this. Emotional validation was often more important than facts which is a difficult place to be in. The only women you see who “have it all” are wealthy enough to have cleaners and live in nanny’s etc. Men can’t have it all either…

I think the approach of linking it back to their suffering is maybe a way to make them at least pause. So abuse can be (not always) a learned behavior. And desperate unloved people can sometimes lose compassion and empathy. So the more we protect men from abuse, and care for vulnerable men, the more women (and other men) will be protected from abuse by those traumatized men.

I think men are more likely to be able to get away in an emergency. There may be repercussions (in 2021) if it’s a particularly malicious woman. What are you getting at? What is your point? That average men have no physical advantages over average women? How do you account for the OPs question that men are found to be more threatening than women? Feminist propaganda? These are primal instincts that have probably been with us since before we are human.

A look that said enough. Pushing them away hard enough that they realize I’m a lot stronger than them. Moving away faster than they can follow. I find this line of questioning very odd given the average size and strength differences between men and women.

I have been physically and sexually assaulted by women in the past. I am not a big guy. When I decided it was enough I stopped it. That is not always an option for women when confronted with bigger, stronger men. Or men when confronted with bigger stronger men. Not all men. Not most men. But some men do not give a fuck. And our perception of communities are affected by the extremes.

Its the physical power dynamic at play. Men can usually stop these situations if they have to. Women threatened by men have greater fear due to knowing they might not be able to get out of the situation. I have been sexually assaulted loads of times by women (who I’m sure don’t consider it sexual assault). It has been annoying, embarrassing, sometimes flattering, but I have never been afraid. Influenced by Austin, philosopher and gender theorist Judith Butler argued that gender is socially constructed through commonplace speech acts and nonverbal communication that are performative, in that they serve to define and maintain identities.[2] This view of performativity reverses the idea that a person's identity is the source of their secondary actions (speech, gestures). Instead, it views actions, behaviors, and gestures as both the result of an individual's identity as well as a source…

Hello. I thought I would drop in to give my opinion. I guess you could describe me as gender critical. I have no beef with trans folks and hope they can live their best lives. But I think sex matters. I think you have made sense and you have made me think a little. So thank you for the exchange. The newspaper is the guardian and I think it’s a bit of a cynical ploy to get reader engagement. What about a long term relationship where one partner isn’t really into it but the other partner wants sexual expression? Is it better to have unenthusiastic sex or to just say no. This is a serious question. The newspaper I read often has lots of articles exploring this question and it’s eye opening to see the gender difference play out. If it’s a man wanting sex then the comments will be about how shallow the guy is and that she doesn’t owe him anything. If it’s the woman who is rejected then …

I get what you mean but human sexuality is complex and consent is complex even though we try to strip everything to a binary (which is an issue with anything and completely distorts our reality).
