because gender roles are fluid What makes you your gender?

I don't actually believe this, and also note that various feminists will have different perspectives on why. Men are not at all (or so rarely) oppressed by virtue of their gender, and/or any oppression that they do face is already accounted for under feminist theory. Thus the only possible function of the movement is to exist in opposition to feminism and the welfare of women and so is misogynistic. Of course I think this is nonsense.

The most common hypothesis I've seen, is that early pc were often sold as kits you had to put together your self and so were marketed towards the eletronics hobbyists radio crowd which was predominately men. But then you have to ask, why was that mostly men?

Even if I agree there was a power differential (there isn't, just because most of the power in our society is held by men, doesn't make most men powerful, because most men don't hold power, even more so, making power gender balanced would do little to help most women. Elevating queens to the power of kings does nothing to help the peasants regardless of their gender). Why would that justify bigotry?

Yes, exactly. Men face an additional (sexual) pressure to make $ so naturally men go to whether ever the $ is even if it is more uncomfortable or higher risk, before women do. The gender imbalance is merely a sign that, as you identify, college (baring the exceptions you note) is not a good investment. Naturally this means, that rather than a push to get more men into college, we will soon be seeing a push to get women into whatever ever market the men have left too (as we already see with stem)…

My experience with feminist discourse is that while they never explicitly say that all masculinity is toxic, they claim anything that might be a positive aspect of masculinity as generic, until all that is left is toxic masculinity. The end result being that masculinity is toxic.

Then the man would be getting none of his needs met instead of some of them. But for many men, its not exactly that. Its more that they are satisfied w/ the sexual aspect of their relationship, but that doesn't mean they wouldn't like to have more. Relationships are about compromise. So my partner doesn't enjoy some aspect of sex. That's fine. I value the relationship for other reasons too. But to learn instead the truth is that my partner doesn't enjoy it with me is very disheartening. I don't …

That actually seems reasonable to me. The mortality ~26k men die of prostate cancer, 40k woman from breast cancer. From a cursory look at the stats it seems that breast cancer is more serious: The 5-year survival rate for most men with prostate cancer is 99%. Ninety-eight percent (98%) are alive after 10 years, and 95% live for at least 15 The average 5-year survival rate for people with breast cancer is 89%. The 10-year rate is 83%, and the 15-year rate is 78%. So yeah, spending more $ on breas…

If your in a position of privilege then option 3 is the best. If your not option 1 is better. In to get results from social networking events you need to have money, time and social status, all things privileged people have more so than the the less. If your a poor black gay transwoman with three kids you won't have the time/money to go to networking events and even if you did people would likely be bigoted towards you. Instead you apply to as many jobs as possible because you need what ever you…

Sure, some, but not all. And I would question how many of these people were actually nice, rather than other qualities masking their lack of kindness. And plenty of people return to abusive relationships as well even if they should already know that the person in question is "not nice". Lots of terrible people through out history have had romantic success. I think the idea that only nice people get romantic success is a fiction we tell ourselves to make the world feel better, but its evidently n…

Yes, that's a requirement Is it really? If that was the case there why would there be so many many victims of domestic violence? The only way both these things could be true is if perpetrators of domestic violence where initially nice people. I find that hard to believe. I would suspect that such people were never nice to begin with, yet that since men and women date such people would suggest that niceness isn't a requirement for dating.

You being a creep harms someone else. Your actions are literally making someone feel really uncomfortable. Why does uncomfortable == harm? For example, I am made uncomfortable by seeing someone eat meat. Are people eating meat in front of me harming me? I am made uncomfortable by pan handlers who try to get me to give them money. Are panhandlers harming me?

I will expose "MRA" hypocrites who say that male genital mutilation isn't so bad and that victims should just get over Neither of us said that. think victims of male genital mutilation have the right to an intact body, and since the victims have obviously had their rights violated So do I! They should not be told to "get over" the violation of their rights. I'm not saying they should?? You keep accusing me of position I don't hold... I'm on your side but I just disagree with your arguments.

That is what getting at when i said the pleasure of the foreskin came from the utility of it. I don't disagree with anything you said, but that isn't what the guy I replied to was saying or the claim I was arguing with. Bob was saying that the foreskin was comparable to the clitoris. That is wrong. Even in your example it would be more the ridged band that would be comparable.

I don't disagree. But that isn't the claim that was made or that I disagreed with.

Sure. But that is a different claim than that the foreskin is pleasurable on par with the clitoris.

when it offers them liberation from an outdated masculinity. My experience with feminists it that they preach this but don't really practice it. Feminists are only cool with liberation from masculinity, when the men breaking masculinity are already significantly masculine. If you aren't masculine and break masculinity, you get nothing but contempt from feminists. Consider the whole 'fragile masculinity'. I think that honestly, fragile masculinity is a good point. The "good" side to it is, that m…

I am anti-circumcision, but even I can tell this is a terrible argument. Extreme inflammatory arguments don't help the cause. They just make it look ridiculous. I don't know about the # of nerves, but as some one who is not circumised I can tell you that the head/shaft of my penis is far more pleasurable/sensitive than my foreskin. In fact it never even occurred to me that one would say that the "foreskin exists" for pleasure. The pleasure I get from it is nil, zero. Any pleasure from it is due …

It's been observed ad nauseam that the actual advice on TRP is pretty much just common sense, available in a bunch of other places. Is it? Because this has actually been a question that has been bothering me. Where can I find TRP with out the misogyny? Because that is something I would really like. First of all, I wouldn't call much of what is taught there common sense, but it is definitely obvious in hindsight which might be confused for common sense. I also don't disagree that much of what can…

Because nothing you did was alpha/redpill and you still haven't recognized that. If the guy was bullying you for months you were not some "Lone wolf IDGAF" guy. Lone wolves don't get bullied. If you truly didn't give a fuck, then bullying you wouldn't accomplish anything and the guy would stop doing it after testing you once or twice. You say: I was the confident, unassuming IDGAF guy Yet you also say: I forced myself not to feel fear or any kind of social pressure because of him and I used to h…

But regardless, gaming is not for everyone. That has nothing to do what with what I said. I also play video games. I'm not coming down on video games as a whole, I am just point on the allure of many video games. There are games that don't consistent of dopamine tap-feeds. There are games like clicking games that are noting but. If you spend half your day grinding in runescape, fine, I have no problem with that. Its your time. Do with it what you want. Just for most people who do such things, th…

What you point out is exactly one of the main draws of video games, and exactly why they are so, I would almost say dangerous, but not exactly, more like they have great capability to distract you from a more fulfilling path. We all have a desire for achievement in our lives, for completing things, for accomplishment, for status. Video games, for the most part a way satisfying this desire in a way that, baring some receptions, doesn't translate over to the rest of your life. No one cares if your…

I don't think most people play video games for the artistic value. Rather, most people play video games (including myself at one point) to satisfy their desire for 'achieving' things, for status, for getting good at stuff, for be "better" than other people. The problem is that most of those skills don't translate over to the real world and so their value in your improving your quality of life is minimal, at the same time however the hours spent in video games remove motivation for tasks that wou…

I actually think there is a significant difference between video games and television. Humans have a desire for achieving things, for getting good at tasks, for getting high status. Video games are a way to quickly and easily satisfy this desire. The difficulty is that the status, the skills you gain, for the most part do not translate into the real world and so can bring a lesser quality of life improvement than say, learning an instrument or lifting weights. While watching television is less p…

If he can't pay his support orders, he won't be getting custody. Becoming financially solvent will need to come first.

I can't speak to the fairness of the situation, but you need to do what you can with what you have. If your payments are legitimately too much for you to handle with your current job then you need to get your support order modified. In the mean time you need to do what ever you can to reduce your expenses. Move in with roommates or move back in with your parents, no going out to eat or drink and so on. You seem to understand the consequences of falling behind on your payments. It sucks but that …

I don't know about that, but there is a part of feminist theory that argues that rape is penetration only, and a woman having sex with a man is not raping him, just forcing him to penetrate her. So by that logic women pretty much never rape men. Just sexually assault them. In fact, so few men are raped that when the government conducted a sexual violence survey, they couldn't find any men who had been raped in the past 12 months (of 2011). http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/ss6308a1.htm?s_…

Also because she purposely got pregnant to stop me from breaking up with her. And she just happened to be crazy enough to stop taking the pill on purpose. If it helps, a large contingent of feminists would agree that if she lied about being on birth control, and you consented to sex under the apprehension she was on birth control, that it was rape because your consent wasn't valid.

The study states that post op the mortality rate is 19.1 percent higher than the non post op population. Right, and the non post op population is almost entirely cis. However that is not what you claimed. You claimed that suicide rates were 20x higher post op. The study doesn't show this because it doesn't compare post-op to pre-op trans. Either way I am not convinced Well then let me convince you: http://www.wpath.org/uploaded_files/140/files/IJT%20SOC,%20V7.pdf http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubm…

Yeah, that doesn't support what you said. The study only shows that trans people post-op have a high suicide rate when compared to a population that is mostly cis. but trans people already have a higher suicide rate than cis people, so your study doesn't support your claim, that trans people have a higher suicide rate post op. You would need to compare the suicide rate of post-op trans people to trans people who don't undergo srs. If you actually read the study they have this to say at the end: …

I hope your comments are as entertaining to me as they are to you. On the other hand, I have often found my self spending a lot of time arguing with people on the internet, even past when I enjoyed it. Don't forget that if your not enjoying your time here you can always walk away. Disabling inbox replies in a comment is very useful for this.

That's why "just be yourself" is important. Be your self is terrible advice. If being his self worked, he wouldn't have had to create this charade. Better advice would be to change his self. To become the act in totality. As you say: they realize that they weren't attracted to you, but to the person you pretended to be.

To be honest I have a hard time buying the "just world hypothesis" of dating on multiple levels. First, it doesn't reflect what I've seen from personal experience. Second from what these men really desire is not a certain physical standard, but an emotional relationship. They are not horny, they are lonely I think the strongest evidence of this, is if they simply desired high SMV women they could go to a sex worker. But they don't. Why? Because its not sex-with-hot-women that is driving them but…

Sorry, I am kind of new to this whole discussion. Why can't men realize that it is unfair that a woman should be paid less just because she stayed home to have children instead of getting an education and building a career? Are you saying that is correct? Can you explain why? I would imagine that the distinction would be that there is social pressure on the women to be the one to stay at home, not that she gets payed less as a result of it. And surely this can't be 100% correct either: Mensright…
