Inspiring movies and how to find themI think of the world as a giant prison: maybe authority will help you or maybe not, maybe you'll get taxed bad and maybe you won't, etc. We can't really escape, but we can find things to enjoy whether we are trapped or not. Yes great way to put it. Also, no matter how dire, we can always change our situation into something better. Nobody else in that prison even tried, and thus stayed there for as long as the powers-at-be dictated. Andy chipped away at his plan, slowly but surely, and was a free… | /r/MenSupportMen | 17/06/23 05:04 PM

How do you guys meet women?Way of the superior man is extremely dense, you have to absorb it one chapter at a time. Read one chapter a morning, and focus on applying just that chapter throughout your day. Most chapters are only one or two pages anyways, which makes it easy to do. Models is one that will take a few reads to absorb, you also have to take it in small chunks and go out and apply it. You will forget most self-help books within a couple weeks if you don't apply anything inside of them as you read them. | /r/MenSupportMen | 18/03/23 06:35 PM

How do you guys meet women? No, I have not. The title, and the fact that it comes from seddit, makes me think it's just a bunch of generic or shallow advice with a controversial title to get attention. I could be completely wrong though. I still think Models by Mark Manson is the definitive "non-spiritual" dating guide for men. | /r/MenSupportMen | 17/03/23 11:52 PM
How do you guys meet women?First of all, I would advise you to carefully consider the way you talk about yourself. You are not "really effed up", because you can't find a girlfriend. Your subconscious will take whatever you tell yourself and make it reality. It is, in fact, a pretty normal experience among guys nowadays to lack female relationships. Every day, as many times as you can, tell yourself "I'm an attractive man, and there's plenty of beautiful women for me to date." It doesn't matter if you don't believe it on … | /r/MenSupportMen | 17/03/23 10:12 PM
Weekend check-inAnything in particular you can point at that's causing this? Or just a general depressive spell? | /r/MenSupportMen | 14/01/23 01:47 AM
Weekend check-inDude I'm so happy to hear that. Seems like you are more open minded about most when it comes to therapy, and the fact that you have money for that many sessions is awesome. I would argue though that if you aren't feeling a good connection after 2 or 3 sessions you might want to find someone else. I drove home from my first session with my current therapist literally grinning from ear to ear, I knew it would be a good connection right away. But that's just personal experience and I can't speak fo… | /r/MenSupportMen | 27/11/22 03:55 PM
Weekend check-inYes the cost of therapy can be quite prohibitive. I had to go through a couple random therapists I didn’t like, before a friend referred me to hers that she liked a lot. I pay about $150 a session, which is quite pricy, but I’ve found it well worth it. I started at 2 sessions a month, now I’m down to 1. My sessions with him have fundamentally changed my life over the pasty year. I’m so glad you’re actively trying to find a therapist. I think people tend to get one bad therapist and think “therap… | /r/MenSupportMen | 26/11/22 12:33 AM

Life is not for everyone, and for sure it isn't for me.Glad that your life got together, but also as you said it seems like you just got lucky and I don’t think I can count on getting lucky. Ah, sorry if I gave of that impression. I definitely did not get lucky. I got kicked around for a while. It was all about me being good to myself and taking care of myself. In fact, I won’t go into detail, but I was pretty damn unlucky with certain situations. I’m so sorry bro. All I ask is that you be good to yourself and please try to keep going. There’s a lig… | /r/MenSupportMen | 15/09/22 01:26 PM
Life is not for everyone, and for sure it isn't for me.Ah sorry homie! Thats shit I can’t relate to everything, but definitely a few things in there. During covid I was super suicidal and dreaded waking up every day. I would fantasize about getting hit by trucks or getting in a deadly car crash. Not enjoyable in any conceivable way. I was horny as fuck, lonely, and felt pretty unloved. Masturbation and porn only helped for maybe an hour. I wanted a girlfriend so bad, but I was so anxious I couldn’t even make proper conversation with one. I had no si… | /r/MenSupportMen | 15/09/22 02:27 AM

This world is truly terrible place, and maybe dying is our ultimate goal. Not OP, but thanks for sharing this, it was something I really needed to hear. | /r/MenSupportMen | 10/09/22 10:06 PM
This world is truly terrible place, and maybe dying is our ultimate goal.I hope so too. If you’re open to it and/or have access, therapy and meds were both great helps to me. If you want to try it out, talking to a general practitioner is a good place to start. Getting in shape and treating myself well helped too. Not saying you have to do any of these things to get through it, but they helped me and that’s all I know. Godspeed man 🙏 | /r/MenSupportMen | 10/09/22 10:05 PM
This world is truly terrible place, and maybe dying is our ultimate goal.I’m so sorry man. I’ve felt similar to what you’re describing (nihilistic, depressed, frustrated with life, unable to find hapiness) for long periods of time before. Have you ever been through a really tough period of life, and gotten through it? Looking back at the hard times I’ve gotten through and the growth I’ve made helps me endure the shit times. Keep going. Things get better I promise. The light at the end is there, you just don’t see it yet. | /r/MenSupportMen | 10/09/22 07:05 PM
Why does it seem like everyone’s first response is telling people to seek professional help?Um, what?? Sorry I didn’t give you the response you were looking for, it’s a tough pill to swallow. I’m not going to sit here and act like it’s healthy to try and fix the mental health of internet strangers. Support communities only have the capability to be a shoulder to lean on. Full stop. I have seen firsthand how damaging it can be to try and solve strangers’ problems on the internet. Sure, we can encourage people to get fit, eat well, develop a healthy social life, etc. (all good stuff), bu… | /r/MenSupportMen | 04/09/22 12:55 AM
Why does it seem like everyone’s first response is telling people to seek professional help?Because trauma and mental health issues have really deep roots, deeper than even the victims realize. The average joe can’t really do more than listen and say “I’m sorry, that sounds really hard” A trained professional is often the only person who can give an individual the insight they need to untangle the mess. Trying to “fix” someone’s trauma/mental health issues has a good chance of making it worse. We’re social creatures, supportive friends/family/groups are essential to the process, but no… | /r/MenSupportMen | 04/09/22 12:39 AM
