There's nothing to fix. Just because you're lacking satisfaction doesn't mean there's something you need to fix. Kids at that age don't know what it means to be interested or show interest. But it's good for her development for you to engage her and hear words from you. If you want to feel useful that badly, give her some linguistic input -- that's how kids learn.

You have a child now. The time to pointlessly obsess about your "control" and the mundane goings of your inner life is over. Just talk to your child. Tell her about your day. Encourage her to ask questions.

Media has upped our expectations and reality cannot match those expectations. Our parents couldn't raise us for the current social climate because there was no way for them to anticipate what would happen, so we're all anxious and effectively socially stunted. Everything is so stimulating that dating, sex, romance, etc. barely registers as emotionally significant. We're all so scared of commitment and the future that for many it doesn't seem like a worthy investment of time. Just a few of the ma…

I don't think pointing out flaws in your reasoning is akin to "intersectionality people socially engineering their Utopias." Again, you can say "it's true enough" if that helps you maintain neural consistency. But I prefer skepticism.

Don't get mad at me just 'cuz very basic facts about genetics disagree with you. I didn't come up with any of it.

No but it means that if it is true, it's only true in a trivial way. If "generic theories" are to say something meaningful, the aberrations and exceptions should show the meaningfulness of that statement by showing us a quality essential to that generic. Funny enough, you reveal this just fine. "Human beings have two arms and two legs" becomes a trivial statement because it is very easy to see that such a quality is not essential to being human, therefore "human beings have two arms and two legs…

For the n-th time, you're confusing your idea of what people you like and don't like with genes and procreation. Frame your discussion however you like, I'm just pointing out it's based on a completely flawed perception of how that works. I don't care about what is beneficial for human and never said anything about it.
/r/PurplePillDebate25/09/18 03:54 AM

When it comes to selective pressures they both reproduced. That's the only quality that matters in genes from that perspective. Why is this such an unacceptable idea? Again, salmon die in their life cycle after spawning. That's a pretty terrible deal for salmon but it still happens.

I studied linguistics and I love philosphy and literature -- based on your OP, I'm very sure I wouldn't fuck you.
/r/PurplePillDebate23/09/18 07:54 PM

Again, quality genes is entirely your qualitative description. Evolution doesn't have any teleology about quality, it's a numbers game. Having genes for cancer isn't quality either perhaps, yet we all have them. You people need to understand already that eugenics failed because it's completely junk science.
/r/PurplePillDebate23/09/18 07:51 PM

Well, then we should probably create a society which values those qualities in humans. I suggest killing all the capitalists.
/r/PurplePillDebate22/09/18 11:44 PM

Again, what you are perceiving as a "weakness" has little to do with genetic fitness because genetic fitness only means the continuation of progeny in a population of organisms. Whether drug addiction is a result of genetic traits no-one knows, but it is entirely possible to have maladaptive traits and still be genetically fit. All organisms have maladaptive and adaptive genetics. My understanding of biology may be misguided, I dunno, but at least I have one -- my father is a respected researche…

This is really basic stuff. Just so we all know, I'm talking on a wider general basis of organisms, not only humans.

Because it's tautological. I would think it self evident but apparently the OP doesn't see it.
/r/PurplePillDebate22/09/18 07:54 PM

Diseases are a way to prevent the population from exploding in size. They can also encode genetically certain benefits that carriers of the disease may hold. Did you never take a biology class in school?

You chodes have the weirdest ideas. If someone is procreating, they're obviously succeeding in terms of evolution or "nature." That you don't like them has 0 to do with nature. Just because you don't like bugs doesn't mean they're not essential to the larger ecology of the planet. How does humanity benefit from having those her genes propagate through the species? Again, this is like looking at salmon dying and saying "how does salmon-kind benefit from this?" It just doesn't work that way.

I think if you seriously want to figure things out, you should spend your time reading something useful on this subject like the ample literature in logic and argumentation that has existed ever since Aristotle. Humans in general are very stubborn when they feel that they are the target of an attack or potential victims. Right, and people who post in the Red Pill don't feel like they are victims. That's why the top posts in the Red Pill forum are about men being victims of women.

this is not a blue-pilled post, and the premises on which this post is based are that of a redpilled worldview. It assumes that women's thinking patterns naturally differ from men Ah, OK. An assumption. women are especially prone to certain logical fallacies that most men tend to avoid. Oh I see. Of course, assumptions are never fallacious. This means men tend to be strong debaters, as any conflicting evidence to their beliefs can be refuted simply by going back to their core principles. You int…

The SAHM of course simply didn't make sense in the economic climate we've been accelerating towards in the last 200 years. With the loss of the family as a social structure, the devaluation of women's work/labor occurred because it wasn't seen as useful production in the context of capitalism. Work done in the home doesn't offer exploitable value to an employer. So bourgeois feminism marched women into the workforce without considering if the work they were marching into was dignified in the fir…

Most rapes don't happen to women in miniskirts. Women were raped for centuries before the invention of the miniskirt. Women in burqa get raped. But it seems you're more interested in this gray area of rape for the sake of winning an argument than you are in the actual particulars of violence against women. In which case, I don't think women need to take your pontification on protecting themselves seriously. Keep thinking of miniskirts and let the rest of us actually try to solve a global problem…

It's just a very vague question. I think what you're looking for is some explanation on why we have the stereotypes we do. In my personal experience, men don't get vilified for cheating. On some level it's a kind of macho accomplishment -- think of how the pill people view it as a heroic display of masculinity. My experience isn't generalizable though, since I grew up in a very austere and old-school environment.
/r/PurplePillDebate07/08/18 09:15 AM

Well, guess what -- even carrying a knife, I've still been the victim of sexual abuse. What further responsibility do I have to take?
/r/PurplePillDebate07/08/18 09:10 AM

Maybe you're lucky enough to live around women who don't have to take responsibility for their own lives. My personal experiences are clearly different from yours. I can't even rely on my family to help me.
/r/PurplePillDebate07/08/18 09:07 AM
8

Women take responsibility to protect themselves all the time. I carry a knife. I think they should give all of us guns too. But that doesn't mean we are responsible for the violent actions of another person. In a society like ours which values liberty and choice above anything else, the onus is on the people who rape. I won't be told by you that I'm not taking responsibility simply for being the victim of a crime.

I'm from a central Asian family. I was raised to see masculinity as giving up your own needs for the good of your family, charity, defending the weak, sharing and reciprocity, and being passionate and honorable in everything you do. This is very different from Western ideas of masculinity. Competitiveness, aggressiveness, and greediness are seen as fairly dishonorable traits -- we have a duty even to help our enemies, and anyone who asks for food or a place to stay brings honor to the family tha…

Personally I love hurting men and making them squirm, even outside a sexual context. But I'll say that I think you have a poor and shallow understanding of what it means to sexually dominate men. Women often sexually dominate men by enticing and teasing them. It's a form of power to have over men, to make them desire you and have their thoughts center only around you and no-one else. That's why the most virulent and violent misogyny focuses on their attractiveness. It's why covering up sexual ch…

oh so you think it's sexy when men act like crybaby bitches who rely on you for emotional validation? Actually, "we" don't mind if you seek emotional validation. It's ok if you cry. I find men sexier when they have tears in their eyes. What we don't like is men carrying around their humiliation with them everywhere they go. And I can tell by your attempt at masculine proselytizing that you have a very humiliated sense of self. I'm sorry but that won't go away with the gym, fixing your diet, or working on your social skills.

What I meant by "unrestricted environment" is an environment specific to women where they are sexually liberated -- you can see what their preconceived nature results to in a given environment. Animal instinct is the most shallow, pointless term ever. Something isn't an instinct just because it's difficult to explain in terms of simple language. An example of an instinct would be a fixed action pattern -- like an infant automatically clasping your hand when you touch their palm. Complex sexual behavior isn't instinct, no matter how much you insist it is. Not to mention, animals are complex thinking creatures and do not completely act out behavior in fixed action patterns or instincts. …

Yes and no. Many physical characteristics such as height tend to be distributed normally. My professional training is not as a social scientist but rather in business and law so I bump up against it and I read a lot of SS studies. Social characteristics tend to be log-normally distributed (zero plus, left skew and such). I dunno if many, but height is distributed randomly because of assumptions that hold well. Height (in a specific context!) is the result of thousands of random and unrelated var…

"Women being more emotional than men" isn't the same claim as the claim that women reason emotionally rather than rationally. And no it's a statistical assumption. The normal distribution is an assumption. Statistics aren't facts, they're tools to explain relationships. Again, I do this stuff often - I would never be comfortable to conclude things are facts based on what statistics tell me. And I'm mystified by what you're trying to say. Again, it's an assumption. Generally cognitive scientists who criticize IQ aren't interested in doing studies on it so naturally psychometricians who do accept the assumptions of IQ dominate the field.

I can say that because g is measurable, heavily g-loaded tests are valid and reliable, and test scores correlate with numerous social outcomes at a level that is statistically significant. Correlate with but not represent a real phenomenon. Intelligence researchers (well, Lynn specifically) want to say that the g factor represents a real physical measurement of something. A correlation isn't that. If we grant that creativity, common sense, etc. all constitute a measure of intelligence then what …

I dunno how you can say IQ is useful because it's 'valid and reliable' and then allow for 'some aspects (...) at large' to be qualitative. This is precisely the problem with IQ tests, we have to agree to a general g factor - otherwise if intelligence is qualitative, how can we be sure that any quantitative measure is internally coherent? How do we know that 'spatial intelligence' isn't a categorical error, and the testing apparatus we use only tests our formulation of intelligence and not the g …

Richard Lynn is the source of many IQ claims but most of it is meta analysis from conjectured figures based sometimes on a very small set of data. This is where that ridiculous set of numbers about "African IQ" comes from. The most rigorous study done by Richard Lynn on men and women w/r/t IQ found about ~5 IQ difference. I also want to add that a lot of claims made by amateur IQ experts are rife with faulty statistical knowledge. IQ isn't the same as the g factor, and to say the g factor - what…

No, they get "tossed" into categories because qualitative data doesn't have a meaningful numerical relationship between "units." 2 is 4 away from 6 because 6-4 equals 2. There is no behavior calculus, therefor doing numerical operations on it produces nothing of value - and a graph with two axes should describe a numerical relationship or it's a meaningless graph. A graph is only meaningful if the axes have some relationship together. I know I'm a woman or whatever but I do this for a living so …

A biological difference doesn't say much about function either. A human-brain and your laptop are vastly different types of computational structures but both of them could calculate 1+1 with the same result. For many cultures, getting married isn't necessarily a romantic concept. In my culture, people get married to strengthen family bonds, secure a decent place to live when the parents get old, and make the tribe bigger so there's more people with guns when it comes for an old fashioned blood-feud. Marriage is also a great way to put a hold on a blood-feud, at least as long as the bride is honorable and doesn't get her head kicked in and stoned. In some cultures, even the women get to cheat.

'Different genders' is part of performance and play. 'Doing' (and undoing, I'm borrowing from Butler here) gender calls attention to its arbitrary and performative nature. Using different pronouns from the common ones is calling attention to the concept. Why do we have gendered pronouns? What do they mean? It's a way of getting people to discuss the subject. It does seem to succeed in that regard, though I dunno if the discussion that comes from it is always effective or productive.

At his age, that seemed like a very long time. She rejected him because all of a sudden it felt like her entire life was just going to revolve around him. I thought it was a cruel thing but I also understood. People don't break up just because of "biological mechanisms" or "instincts." There's a deeper rot that pois…

So you're telling me no matter what, because Chris Brown represents some masculine ideal in your head, all women would cheat on their significant other because of "biological mechanisms." Let me offer an alternative: people wanna believe this story because a. it validates an innate anxiety about being cuckolded by a 'better man' and b. it presupposes that there exists such a man who could overpower women's conscious reason and get sex through "biological mechanisms" - the burgeoning desire of al…

Again, it's not about the art but about understanding the social milieu in which that art exists. And there's something between 'understanding the difference between boys and girls' and analyzing 'the representation of minorities and women.'

Modesty changes as societal norms change. In many cultures, it's not immodest for women's breasts to be out - in our culture, that's mostly taboo save for specific (sexual) contexts. If modest means "in line with what is considered acceptable conduct," most people dress modestly. In California, short cutoffs and T-shirts are considered pretty much acceptable as casual wear. Probably not so on the east coast.

Simple people seek simple answers. I don't know if it's true that adolescent boys don't have awareness of strong female robot characters. I work with children and at an early age they're perceptive of such things. Just the other day a 3 year old was enacting parts of Star Wars with great accuracy, and of course the girl of the group got to be the Rey character.

That there is a difference between those two things is so trivial and obvious that I just assumed you were saying something of more substance. Don't have to worry about me breeding either, I'll probably adopt.

There's more video after that. She's not literally asking "why in this movie are all the robots men" since she answers that question. It's a rhetorical question. It's like dragging a kid kicking and screaming to the doctor.

If you can't connect the dots between saying "feminists love to criticize, but hate creating" and me saying art criticism has a powerful impact on what it means to create art, that's not my problem.
/r/PurplePillDebate01/07/17 06:08 AM
3

Unless you're making a statement about causality, I'd argue that the "art consumer" has a strong impact on what gets made. No art is made in a vacuum, especially not art made to follow a 'demographic.'

The video itself answers your question so... It's not about what Hollywood's intentions are, but rather about what those choices tell us about our social structures. Why does Hollywood believe these things earn them the most money? Why is our society set up that way if it's true? Are there moral choices to make or is it all just grey post-capitalist goop. Think through someone else's perspective for just one second. It's healthy.
/r/PurplePillDebate01/07/17 02:44 AM

a consumer of art (in this case a movie) only has the choice to consume or not to consume. Some of us have a deeper relationship to art than mere consumption.

Women are always blamed for the ressentiment of those who feel society has left them behind. Aristotle in Politics blamed women's higher status for the fall of Sparta. Qutb blamed the "the round breasts, the full buttocks (...) shapely thighs" for the spiritual degeneration of America and believed Egypt would go the same way if it didn't put the hijab on its women. Human sexuality is impossibly complex. Read some ethnographies from other societies and you'll see how different things could have been. If you ask me, many more people would be 'bisexual' had our societal norms been different. There are many examples throughout history where sex between people of the same sex (yes sex, often the genders between sexual partners would remain male-female even though their sex would not be) was not considered abhorrent. Sometimes it was even considered greater than heterosexual romance.

I'm sorry, what was the point of posting this 15 year old article by David Geary? It doesn't contradict what HugMuffin posted. It's actually a great summary of the field, I'd recommend reading the whole thing to anyone who posts here on any subject... but particularly for anyone who argues for/against evo-psych or RP's view of the dimorphic human mating strategies. How would you know it's a great summary of the field? Conflating 'dimorphic human mating strategies' from a crank web forum with evo…

"Chad" is this strange figure which represents the supposedly worst aspects of 'female sexuality.' Allow me to quote: Stereotypical high school/college apha male; successful with women in the extreme. Often oblivious rather than purposefully condescending or cruel to his fellow men. "Did you hear? Chad Thundercock fucked three chicks at that party last weekend!" "He high-fived me on the way out the door. I wanted to tear his face off." 'Chad' is usually talked about negatively. Boiled down, Chad…

Sometimes it's hysterically funny. In a similar way, a man can respect a woman, but if he deems to treat her as his equal, she will soon come to resent him and leave to seek a man who actually portrays himself as superior – as a leader – to her. She seeks this instinctively. She is an empty vessel who seeks to be filled with a strong man's "truths." In the realm of seduction, a woman also seeks out a man who is able to behave in a superior fashion to her, so even if you are not yet convinced tha…

How is this Eddy pus gonna help me get laid? But I do think it's worth pointing out that there is a clear deprived Self in the case of a man who seeks out the realization of his own mythology. The TRP dude envies the 'Chad' myth as much as he fights against it, turning the gun towards himself for each failure.

I think it is healthy for a man to feel like he deserves to have sex. Maybe not from a particular woman but definitely someone from all of woman kind. The problem is telling men that in order to be secure in their own masculinity they need to have sex. The fact that sex is just something you do onto 'woman-kind' is proof that your whole perspective is totally skewed. 'Woman-kind' is not an instrument one should use to satisfy some urge, that's like morally wrong or whatever.

Anyways, if 1 gene that has to do with reward can predict someone's behavior with such accuracy, even though they know "smoking is bad". You really think their neocortex takes precedence in that decision? Well, no the point was that the neocortex (really, the frontal lobe) influences basal ganglia through feedback as much as the basal ganglia influences the frontal lobe. I don't think anything takes precedence at all, that's not how that system works. I mean addiction also affects neocortex func…

That's not how the brain works. The basal ganglia in reptiles functions differently from that in humans because the brain has neuro modulations which affect cerebral functional structures. The idea of "precedence" and "instincts" don't mean anything when all structures of the brain interact with each other through neuro modulations and ionotropic signals.

Until Anti-fa can claim responsibility for countless deaths and the destabilization of the entire region, i don't think your simile holds any truth to it whatsoever. So, you saying your a behavioral scientist yet you don't know what bias sampling is? I know, weird right? You never did. You have never once provided an alternative source of evidence than surveys. A computer model isn't evidence. It's a conceptual idea of how evidence should look. Okay but observations and experiments are 'alternate sources.' In fact, that's like the main source when it comes to behavioral research - that was kinda the thing about behaviorism. And I disagree. A computer model i…

If I survey 100 people who had liver cancer, and 70% of them said eating 1 pound of vegetables a day cured their disease, this needs to be verified via more information and scientific tests. I'm not quite sure what kind of survey you're running? All that survey would tell you is 'what percentage of n=100 people believe eating a pound of vegetables a day cures their disease.' You're not answering an empirical question about causality when you're taking a survey of people's beliefs. I don't want t…

I don't know what 'variably control' means, but there's no reason to verify anything. A survey is taken on the assumption that the vast majority of people have good faith when answering questions, there's no rational reason to assume otherwise. And again, surveys are far from the only way to gather evidence.
/r/PurplePillDebate03/04/17 04:30 AM
1

Nope, no clue what that is. Anyway, survey instruments only have limited uses in quantitative research. In my field we rely more on experiments and computer modeling to ascertain behavior. Even if surveys weren't more rigorous than anecdotes, I mean there's a real science to designing them, it's simply wrong to say they're the only way we gather evidence.

No need to be so smug. The CDC reports that the standard error for their study into sex partner difference is about (0.2). That means that 68.4% (assuming normal distribution) of all people fall within that interval. Your data is Australian, not American, but even just assuming that 15.6% of men in the United States have gone to a prostitute doesn't mean that they are more likely to have more sex partners because the standard error is supposedly the same for both male and female survey participa…

Dr. Gales makes, as mathematicians working with social data are wont to do, a lot of assumptions which assumes that the sample population of a survey on sexual partners is a discrete contiguous set. The cutely called 'High School Prom Theorem' assumes that there's a one-to-one mapping between sets {G} and {B}, even though there's lots of situations where that might not be true. Beside that though, here's something you might find interesting: On average, men overreport their height by 1.22 cm (0.…

None of that has any truth at all. The brain stem has no 'drives,' its function is to converge nerve inputs and feed them into the thalamus. We know this because damage to the brain stem primarily affects nervous function. To say that the limbic system is separate from the brain stem doesn't make much sense either. All nerve input comes from the brain stem and feeds into the 'limbic system,' which is responsible for a lot of behavioral functions. It's why damage to the limbic system causes thing…

Uh, modern neuroscience has pretty much killed this idea. The basal ganglion, or the 'lizard brain,' is what allows you to 'override' using executive function. The basal ganglion actually does the exact opposite of what you believe it to do, it inhibits motor output which is vital to things such as attentive learning and social behavior.

Structural difference isn't the same as a functional difference. A brain can miss a lot of its structure and still produce functional similar to that of a neuro-typical individual. Dead brain tissue in adults won't regenerate but people who undergo brain damage can fully recover the functions they had before due to neuroplasticity.

Plus if it's women that have the hots for "inner-city black gang-members" (as if hip-hop was just that and nothing more), why is it Caucasian men who are attracted to it? It is taboo to have more than 1 n count in the most conservative of Asian countries. Hint: taboos are more complex than just behavior no-one is supposed to do. That's kind of a nonsensical request, and really circular. If I can't name any "antifeminist psycholinguists" (I mean it's a very fringe concept), it's because they exist but are scared or something which proves your point. Even though it's also possible that they just don't exist. There's no way for me to answer which doesn't just assume your proposition is true. "Intersectionality" is a term coined to describe years of scholarship before hooks that came from among other things black feminists like Audre Lorde and Angela Davis. Terms describing movements or currents in scholarship always come after the fact.

Anything that falls under the heading of falsifiable science is not gender studies, it is science. I didn't realize that the study of gender and science were somehow mutually exclusive categories. That would be weird considering gender studies is by definition multidisciplinary and draws from sciences like biology and anthropology.

Are you saying some people naturally have social skills? I don't think this is limited to the "top 5 percent" since uh, a lot more than 5% of men manage to procreate. It's funny that you mention Casanova. Read his memoirs and you'll find him the opposite of your obsessions. According to Marx, there wasn't alienation before labor because you worked on a farm (for the most part) with your family. Everything you did involved the direct benefit of your homstead and those you live with, when you go out to work someplace else for a check to spend on stuff to help you..its muddied. Uh not exactly. There was alienation but the resemblance of a social relationship between your labor and its product still existed, compared to a capitalist system where there is no self becaus…

Charming analysis but you're not really using the terms in the right way? I mean alienating force means that they lose the ability to differentiate themselves from their labor. I don't think the problem here for pill people is that men are alienated from their sexual labor and cannot differentiate their self. In fact, not doing 'sexual labor' seems to be their big problem. Like yeah, I get the joke but I don't even know if you meant it to be a joke. 'Nozickspeaks' throws me off.

A lot of men you see on the 'pill forums' don't seem to even enjoy spending time with women. This is true also of the PUA crowd. I'd think a prerequisite for a person to wanna spend time with you is for them to feel like you want to spend time with them.

'Logic' isn't a magical ingredient. Something can be logical and still have flawed premises and conclusions. And something being based on 'reality' is meaningless, unless you mean your philosophy is a realist one rather than an idealist one. In that case then logic should be irrelevant since you're trusting sense-datum rather than the mind's perception of what that data might be. And ultimately we rely on intuition to resolve those logical statements. Since we ultimately cannot look into the fut…

I have no idea how to formulate a counter-argument against claims such as "equalism (the religion of feminism) would have women believe that what makes men happy must necessarily be what makes women happy" because that seems to me self-evidently false. I don't know why it's hip and edgy to repeat things people have been saying about her works since they were written. In either case, even if I loved her message (I'm more sympathetic to Nozick, less rape-y sex), my dislike of turgid writing would color my opinion of her negatively. There are plenty of 'right-leaning' authors who I think wrote good books even if I disagree with their politics. Women write for female audiences books of female interest 99% of the time. This misconception is exactly what the OP was addressing. Which should strike you as a rather odd statement. 'Sexual strategy' may be immoral but you also have to believe that humans are incapable of making moral distinctions and behaviors and that their behavior enacts some kind of primordial truth. Rational egoism isn't an ethical system either. Perhaps you mean ethical egoism but that's ultimately a form of consequentialism, in which individual self-interest results in a positive consequence - what positive consequence means is a different question, and I don't think any serious ethical egoists today would argue that negatively affecting others is a positive consequence especially if it damages their self-interest.

Your unwillingness to question the reasoning and validity of these "facts" is racist, yes. Also, no-one in cognitive science takes your IQ nonsense seriously. Get with the times, the so-called "IQ" gap is closing in line with the socioeconomic gap.

"Looks" matter because we're visual creatures. However, what we consider good looks differs. I have a friend who loves hairy men. I dislike hair. I think big noses are cute, not everyone does. I like men a little chubby and rounded while the person that turned you down likes muscular tennis players. There's no accounting for taste, and you won't necessarily always be attracted to what you believe is attractive.

Most social scientists don't think that human beings are fundamentally much different from each other. Things like the principles of economics and psychology are pretty universal. Fortunately science isn't a popular consensus. As a social scientist myself, I find the principles of psychology generalized far too often - refer to the article on WEIRD testing populations, the vast majority of the work is done on university/college students. I won't speak on the principles of economics. Language is …

What the heck are you even saying? Humans are pretty different now than they were when they evolved into anatomically-modern h. sapiens sapiens like 200,000 years ago. However, supposedly language only developed about 100,000 years ago - imagine how different humans were before they developed language, an innovation which made complex social interactions possible. I dunno where 'the land of fakery' is but surely if the idea that human nature never ever changed since h. sapiens sapiens evolved li…

This post modern idea that we can change reality and our human nature through social and cultural means is one of the greatest falsehoods of our time. ?? That's a modernist idea, not a post modernist idea. And considering how much humans differ across the world and throughout history, the idea that "reality" and "human nature" cannot change seems empirically wrong. What bigger change than fucking developing language could there be?

I'm talking about the majority, not all. You keep putting words in my mouth. If it's possible for even up to 49% of feminists to not need accept patriarchy as an suitable ideology to discuss then I don't know why we should accept the claim that it is the foundational 'core' for feminism. Christina Hoff Sommers is hated by the feminist community because her books are bad and contain mostly fabrications. I don't know what the "vast majority of feminists" believe and you don't either. But as far as I can see, I don't think you need to accept patriarchy as a philosophical or social concept in order to engage in what feminism principally is - the discussion of women as a Subject, something which simply did not occur before its inception; in philosophy, law, or otherwise. Simone de Beauvoir's beliefs in 1949 were a response to her social climate. She envisioned women as being fit for more than housework, which at the time as a responsibility was forced onto women. Women who wanted to work in fields like philosophy or science and ignore housework were demonized - I think you can figure out what would make Simone de Beauvoir, one of France's most famous female intellectuals, so passionate about that.

No, not all feminists engage patriarchy as a social or philosophical concept. Janet Radcliffe Richards certainly does not, 'bell hook' even argues that we call patriarchy isn't based on the power of men but rather on authority and institutions enabled by power. "Marxist connections" is with little meaning considering Marx has influenced pretty much all discourse to the left of classical liberalism. I really don't understand this bizarre worldview where you can divide everyone into the two extremes of "Extroverted, promiscuous, outgoing and loud" v. "nice submissive wallflowers." I think it's much more likely that the vast majority of people are somewhere in the middle of that. I mean "promiscuous, outgoing, and loud" is a good description of me when I'm intoxicated, but not when I'm at work or something. women who fuck alpha chads while advising men to be nice betas (TBP) Really don't know…

The problem is that you have to distinguish between normative and empirical explanations. What is biologically possible is not necessarily a justification for moral or normative statements, nor is it per se necessary for the behavior you're trying to explain. For example, you can argue evolutionary psychology explains why people murder - that doesn't mean we should accept murder nor does it mean everyone who murders follows that explanation. Also culture, want it or not, affects gender differenc…

It's what women mostly talk about. Those immediate, relevant today or soon things. That's what most people talk about! Most people aren't insane redditors who draw the bulk of their social knowledge from an insane subreddit of men who can't decide if they're more scared of women or immigrants. By beauty, I was referring more to make up, nails, hair tips and things that beautify a woman. And? Beauty is a compelling subject in all cultures. If the sexual encounter was initially consensual and enthusiastic, it's not "profoundly negative". Yes it is profoundly negative; if you're uncomfortable or even worse are doing something you didn't consent to, it turns the experience into a profoundly negative one. Don't change the subject. It "offends my sensibilities" as a scientist because I think skepticism and careful analysis are more important than feels-right explaining. That's why the distinction exists in the first place between what is objective and subjective. If you could experience something which was subjective to another person, it wouldn't b…

I have no idea what any of that means. In any case, there's a reason why prostitute love stories occur in every culture which has had a history of prostitution. In some cultures, prostitutes were encouraged to have long-time relationships with their "johns" and such relationships were said to be the true place of love - not at home.

Aka solipsism Sure, but all humans are like that - unless telepathy is real. if you understand the beliefs of a person you can understand their mind I'm not quite sure how you could understand anyone's mind, what you observe isn't necessarily what goes on in their head. This is why the vast majority of people who might have sociopathy seem like normal people. Does it mean it's a 100% accurate understanding? No, and that's okay. No, it's not okay. I find folk-psychologies which demean women to be…

A whole bundle of hormones shoots inside your head when you have sex with someone, it nurtures affection and promotes bonding. The men who say sex is just an itch they need to scratch likely do so because such a concept seems fashionable or masculine to them. Some people also distance themselves from the emotional aspect of sex because of emotional trauma. It's very easy to get hurt when sex is involved.

It seems like you're saying we can't know each other's view, and men cant even understand other men's view. It seems to me quite obvious that an observation you make about someone else is more reflective of your attitudes than it is about the person you're observing. Just think about the information you're getting: you have an extremely limited sensory input that you make sense of using what could be a theoretical infinitely large set of beliefs, memories, prejudices. This is why priming is extr…

I'm yet to find a culture where men are not sexually excited by seeing young naked and fit females. That's a very reductionist view of sexuality in men. Either way there were/are plenty of cultures where nudity doesn't have much to do with arousal. There are also cultures where older women are expected to introduce younger men to sex, one of which was explored by Margaret Mead. Human sexuality is nuanced and complicated. Reducing it down for the sake of being able to make generalizations about m…

Hence why men need so much self control. Lots of violent thoughts come and they must be contained, society doesn't put up with it. The vast majority of people in the world have lots of violent thoughts. If you feel like you have more violent thoughts than the average person, then maybe you should seek help for that.

What's so interesting about threads like these is that you never entertain the possibility that you're making a fundamental attribution error. To me underestimating some inherent sexuality would be completely ignoring the fact that much of sexuality is situational. Just because you're a man doesn't mean you fundamentally understand the sexuality of another man who inhabits a different culture or set of situations, just as I as a woman cannot fathom why people masturbate to the idea of Johnny Dep…

You know my point, and to suggest you don't would be disingenuous I'm absolutely sincere when I say I don't know what you're talking about. For the fact that I claimed solipsism on the comments, rather than the storytelling, I shall issue objection, but I won't shy from the task - you are white knighting a response to the story rather than the story itself. How does this pornographic fantasy of yours relate to the story? The person in the story said multiple times that they wanted to leave and felt scared. I know you enjoy writing about people grinding their pussies but it wasn't even remotely relevant. Who are these girls that don't physically resist sex when they change their mind halfway through? The women I've fucked have been smart enough to stop it when they actually wanted it to stop. You've never actually met people who were victims of rape…

This is, again, unimaginative. Divide people into age demographics and ask them to articulate moments in which they cry. But that wouldn't tell you anything about the intensity of their emotions which was your original claim, not to mention there could be bias in what they choose to report. This is like elementary study design stuff. What you're quantifying is how much someone cries, that's a big difference from the "intensity" of someone's emotions. What... You don't have education. Source needed. Ah, just for me though. Not only is it quantifiable, it's possible within even the most elementary imagination: self-reporting, duration of crying fits, crying frequency, conditions under which people cry, flux of voice volume, etc., etc. Crying isn't the only behavior related to experiencing emotions, not to mention it's very easy to experience emotions that could make you cry yet you don't cry. Crying would be an extremely poor measure of the "intensity of emotions." I guess sel…

Someone may say that they can have lots of sex with whoever without emotional attachment but in my experience that's never true. Human beings naturally develop attachments towards each other, especially if hormones are shooting into their head every time they orgasm. All I'm saying is, people may say that they have no emotional attachment but I don't think they're always being honest. They'll say it because other people like hearing it, the reason why it's called a "game" in the first place - th…

still significantly masculine in personality If you say so, I suppose. These concepts are not subjective to you or me, they're objective and defined outside of anyone's own view. That's a pretty authoritative statement to make for something non-trivial which is hotly debated. These concepts of masculinity and femininity would be pretty useless if we all had our own definition of it. Yeah dude. Welcome to language. Much of language communicates the state of the speaker, not the state of the world…

If I say "they're all feminine to me," what will be your response? I like Kristen Schaal. Maria Bamford is pretty funny to me too, and I think she's cute too. Lauren Lapkus on Comedy Bang! Bang! is great. Since I'm pretty mannish, my conception of what's feminine and what's masculine will differ from yours so I don't know how you seek to prove your point. Also, humor has nothing to do with stand-up? My mom is very girly but she's also very funny. She's not a stand-up comedian.

I can assure you that the existence of humor is something consistent across all of human life, from young to old across the entire world. Once again, humor is subjective and I guess for you a sorority girl isn't funny but for other sorority girls she might be. Thanks for trying.

Depends on what you mean by alpha. In my experience, the pill guys are extremely sporadic on what it means to be an "alpha." It's not a term we use in anthropology or social cognition involving humans. The little term thing on the sidebar describes "alpha" as: Somebody who displays high value, or traits that are valued by women. In which case it would be really hard to actually define.

This is actually something I've been super interested in as a research question. Humor is subjective but there has to be some behavior we do which cues what's funny and what's not for us to pick up depending on the social circle we're in. What is it about drunk girls in a frat party bathroom that they don't have the same cues for humor? It's a cognitive aspect of language surprisingly few have studied.

My parents expect me to be more feminine, so in a sense not being feminine is a simplistic form of revolt for me. Sometimes I'll be feminine for fun but really I think women who manage to constantly make themselves so wonderful and feminine are really cool women. I don't envy them but I do greatly respect them. Be as cute and girly as you want to be, regardless of gender - I think that's the coolest.

It might be untrue but "celebrity gossip rags" do not represent sexual attractiveness for most people since the vast majority of people have sex with humans who are average, which should be an uncontroversial statement. The point that I'm trying to make is really very reserved. When I talk about attractiveness, I'm really talking about the people we sexually procreate with. I'm in complete agreement with your post, when I said average it was with the intention of the numerical mean. I was trying to make a point about normal distribution and how the skewed aspect to this 1-10 scale may say something about what is generally sexually attractive and what is not.

I have no idea what "SMV" is but I do know based on the current scientific understanding of sexual attraction that it is extremely rare to find people who are universally believed to be attractive at an above average level. One of the big reasons is that generally, people are sexually attracted to averageness. To use your ordinal scale, it is possible that more people find the same person to be a "5" than they find another person to be a "9." I don't know if that's true but it may be an interest…

There are various breakpoint ages where more logical capacity is gained for example. "Logical capacity" (there is a reason why neuroscientists are pedantic) is the result of the learning processes and development which occur throughout your life. It is for example possible that you never learn a language as a child, this can really stunt your cognitive development. But just on a physiological level, the prefrontal cortex isn't fully developed till your 20s. Are there psycholinguist authors you p…

Neuro development can't be put into terms such as "what capacity do they gain," our capacities are constantly changing and myelination patterns and gray matter change until you go well past your 60s. The brain isn't a static organ, development does not stop - partly the reason why some mental disorders don't reveal symptoms until your 20's. It's incredibly amusing to me how these "flaws" are construed to be some kind of essential property to a person. People do not act predictably across all situations. Loads of "thugs" have children. I'm not sure what you mean when you say mature at all. Maturity varies culture by culture, and biologically it's absolutely not true that anyone stops developing at age 18 since the brain isn't fully developed at that age anyway. If someone says "men aren't as mature as women at x age," what they likely mean is that in their opinion women at that age assume the characteristics we associate in our society with maturity more often than men do. What a strange question. People tend to have "baby fever." It's a normal psychological impulse for many of us and it's well understood by endocrinologists. If you had an understanding of the history of humanity you wouldn't be asking such silly questions. A 6 foot blue eyes hunk is not attractive in the remote tribes of South America, one of the reasons being that attractiveness in many of those societies is based on certain tasks and rites a man has to complete in order to be desirable. However, we share a human lineage with them and respond in identical ways to stimuli in terms of biology. Our culture affects our biology and vice-versa, but bodie…

Reducing women to a "singular entity" does not meet the definition of misogyny. You can say its not very nice, not politically correct, or any number of other things. but so far no proof of misogyny. Okay, it's not misogyny; it just reduces women's agency and turns them into a singular category that deprives them of their individuality which allows you to project normative behavior onto them. And here I thought "misogyny" was treating women as inferior. Yeah, because reducing "women" to a singular entity is treating them as inferior. That was the point of feminism in philosophy, to make possible for "woman" to be the subject rather than a category.
