The movie and book also question the motives behind self improvement and self destruction. Tyler takes advantage of countless men, preying on their desires to be strong men to brainwash them and create a terrorist cult movement. The narrator, Tyler , and Marla are all self destructive in some aspect, and still manage to get what they want.

Anybody with actual experience with dark triads or even people with a single severe personality disorder will not hesitate to leave any idiot trying to play bad boy by claiming they're "dark triad". Women want a lot of things, but most aren't stupid enough to try fucking a legitimate threat to their lives. I'm not saying certain traits or methods won't work, but full blown dark triad approaches to life are a good way to get thrown in jail, or at least ostracized.
