Sorry if I came off as harsh, was not my intention. Hopefully, you are having a good day at work. OK. So I am in no way suggesting that there be any group assigned to determine who is fit to bear children. That is an individual's choice and no one should have any say in it. What I am saying is that financial ability to raise a child needs to be considered by the the individual who will have the child. Forced abortion? No! Forced sterilization? No! But holding people accountable for the decisions…

So you won't respond to my assertion 3 hours ago that you should not have a child if you are not financially responsible, but justify the use of sperm banks for those financially stable an hour afterwards? Please have some consistency in your arguments. Please?!?

Again you are placing all of the responsibility on the man. All of the issues you have mentioned that may prevent a woman from having an abortion exist. No one is denying that. However, women are not being asked to take into account these things prior to the act taking place. Only men are being told that once the act is completed, they have no rights. Men are being told to make all of their considerations and accept the potential responsibilities PRIOR to the act of consummation. Socially, women…

In an overpopulated world, having children is not a bad choice? Please explain why there is a direct correlation between the amount of education one has attained versus the number of children one has; i.e. the more education the fewer children. The same exact correlation can be made for income; higher income = fewer children. It would seem that educated, intelligent, affluent people may disagree with your assertion that bringing additional people into the world is not a bad thing. Maybe we shoul…

That is not the argument at all and clearly not what I stated, Please stop moving the goalposts to suit your argument. Thank you. The argument is that at the moment of conception, only one party is being held responsible for the consequences. The other party, through scientific, technological, and social advances, has many options. These advances have gone further than equalize the biological differences. In fact, now there is an imbalance in one direction due to these advances. The argument is …

Your inability to even understand the argument is dumbfounding... Why is it that when two individuals consent to sex, only one has given consent to childbirth but not the other? How is that equal in anyway?

Where is there any woman hating in asking that someone be responsible for their decisions? How is that hating anyone? As an individual, you make choices. If you make a stupid one, you need to be responsible for that choice whether it man or woman. Your attack and assertion that I hate women is way off base. I hate stupid people who make stupid decisions and then ask others to bail them out! Why are you so against personal responsibility? I understand that it takes a lot to raise a child as a sin…

Again with the state stepping in... Why can't women take care of themselves? Why must they always be dependent? You can not demand equality on one hand and demand that you are unable to take care of your responsibilities in the other. Stop demanding to have your cake and eat it too if you ever want to be taken seriously!

Where did I ever say that the state was to be involved? I am asking why a woman can not be held responsible for her actions. Why must she depend on others for support to raise the child? If she chooses to bring a child into the world, she has made that choice. No one has coerced her, not the state nor the father. The level of hypocricy truly boggles my mind: Strong independent women, "Don't need no man," but need others to financially support their decision to raise a child? Women are earning mo…

Why is the mother relieved of taking into consideration her financial standing prior to making the decision to have the baby. I'm sorry, but I believe that the ability to afford a baby should be a major factor in the decision making process for both parties. The choice to have a baby and expect others, whether that be the father or society through taxes and welfare, seems seriously irresponsible in a culture where women are earning the majority of degrees.

The father should have to sign documentation relieving his parental role and this should have to be done within the same time period that the expecting mother has to legally have an abortion. That way it is fair for all.

Are you referring to what some call, "Financial Abortion?" (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/kirsten-west-savali/fathers-financial-abortion_b_1015286.html) This is basically the idea that since a woman has the right to have an abortion and ultimately end her responsibilities for her sexual acts, then men should have the same ability and not be held financially responsible. At least that is how I understand it. If I am incorrect or someone can elaborate, please do.

Or....Instead of trying to change men, maybe we can ask them what is wrong and why they are acting out in this manner? These people are mentally ill. Was their illness from genetics or a hormonal imbalance, or was it derived from societal pressures? Seeing as many of these shooters are also suicidal and there is a serious problem w/ suicide amongst males, is this part of a larger problem that we should be addressing? What I'm saying is that its much harder to force people to change from their na…

This is something that I've heard multiple times, that feminism fights for fathers' rights, and then when you ask why NOW fights specifically against fathers' rights there is dead air, complete silence. The hipocrisy is mind numbing!

I am so sick of this one: Feminists do not want you to lose custody of your children. The assumption that women are naturally better caregivers is part of patriarchy. If this is true, then why does NOW (the largest feminist organization in the US) advocate the Tender Years Doctrine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tender_years_doctrine) and explicitly fight against fathers' rights?

I think you hit a key point: If males have so much privilege, then why do they commit suicide so frequently? Honestly, if men have so many inherent advantages, then why are they offing themselves at a rate 3 times that of females?

Its good to see him compensated, but it's not the first time (http://verdict.justia.com/2012/10/16/when-your-daddy-is-not-really-your-daddy). Hopefully a trend of demanding DNA tests will develop if no form of male birth control becomes available. Especially if you consider that the number of children not fathered by the husband has been estimated to be 10% (http://www.disinfo.com/2011/02/one-out-of-ten-people-werent-fathered-by-the-man-they-believe-is-dad/).

I concur w/ your assertion. Unfortunately, there are few (if any) words that address men that have a positive connotation these days. Maybe what we need is a veteran or firefighter to come forward and discuss the realities of domestic abuse. However, even then it is hard to break the stereotype.

So if the girls were taking self portraits and sending them to the boys, then why are the boys in trouble? If the boys redistributed them after they initially received them, then I understand charging the boys with distribution of child porn. But can anyone explain to me why the girls are not charged? Technically, they are the ones who are making and distributing child porn. Hypothetically, I'm a male student at this school who is secretly homosexual and still in the closet with zero interest in…

Interesting angle, but not sure how that would work. Wouldn't he have to establish that he was the custodial parent in order for a kidnapping to have occurred? A difficult task when you are trying to gain paternity rights. IANAL, so I would not be the one to consult on this matter, but I like your thinking.

Love the analogy and agree 100%. However, I think that the key difference is that Feminist Theory has patriarchy and male privilege as central principles and this is the barrier that you mentioned previously. It would literally be like taking the, "Christ out of Christmas."

I agree that it is still ridiculous and that the biological father should have the same rights as the mother's rights, to include removing himself entirely (read: financially). Overall, the change is a start in the acknowledgement of the biological father's rights and that, I think, is positive.

VAWA contains a "mandatory arrest" clause meaning the removal of the "most threatening person." In theory, this means that the aggressor is arrested. However, VAWA was (and honestly is, if not by name) based on the Duluth Model which states that women and children are oppressed and always the victim and that men are always the aggressor. It is not hard to see that VAWA is discriminatory against males.

I could be wrong, but I understood the change in law to be focused on the biological father's knowledge of the mother being married or not. In other words, prior to the change, the biological father had no paternity rights what so ever. Now, if the biological father does not know that she is married, he has the right to sue for his paternal rights. However, if he was aware that the mother was married, he has no paternity rights. That's just how I understood it, but I could be wrong.

I wonder if the good folks at the All India Progressive Women’s Association are doing anything about the pockets of matriarchal cultures in southern and eastern India. No offense please, but do you think that there should be different physical standards for different positions (MOS's)? How about by unit? A USN Medic Blue Corpsman is different than a true USN Green Corpsman, at least in my experience. But what about the admin clerks at HQ in an infantry division? Many are female. Should they be held to the same standards as the infantryman? Just want to know your thoughts b/c it is pretty complicated right now, IMO.

I agree with you, but I think that it can be taken one step further. I think that when extremists voice their opinions, the opportunity arises to bring a more moderate or temperate voice to the limelight. For example, religious extremism in the US as articulated by the anti-gay (or biblical family positive) in this last voting cycle was met with a backlash in both those who identified as nonreligious and religious. Many clergy publicly announced that they did not agree with this view, albeit a m…
