No one will make headway opposing a 'Violence Against Women Act'. It's like trying to vote against the 'Feed Poor Kids Act'. They could put anything under these headings. We can't fight this, no matter how many facts and citations we have. It may win the occasional argument, but it won't sway public opinion.

We need to find a concise way to label this accurately. A concise way to fight it. Otherwise we have another round of billions in funding going to reinforce the 'women can only be victims and men can only be abusers' mindset.

This was to be expected - the only grass-roots voices being heard at the federal level were those speaking for the bill. We cannot rely on politicians to figure things out for themselves. They don't take time to research and assess on their own unless something is their pet issue, and domestic violence against men isn't going to be any federal representative's pet issue, because the subject is controversial.

This is why, as I stated and described here, we really have to do that work for them; gather the facts and write/call/fax whatever suits your communication style.

On a side note, if there was ever a truly scathing indictment of feminism, it is the passage of this bill. Feminist advocates lobbied for this, and there are only two possibilities regarding their level of knowledge as to what they were supporting.

Either they knew exactly what they were supporting, and lobbied for it anyway, which means they either don't care who they hurt to gain power, or are actually pro-abuse of men, pro-discrimination, pro-malicious prosecution of men, and pro-false imprisonment of men...

...or they lobbied in complete ignorance of the contents of the bill, which means that they're so lazy, brainwashed, or shallow that you can slap the "pro-women" on anything and they'll support it.
