Height is polygenic and multifactorial. Regression towards the mean exists such that, in general, while an extremely short couple or an extremely tall couple will produce short or tall offspring respectively, these offspring will generally be closer to the average, on average... if that makes sense. Very important and still poorly understood are epigenetic changes in gene expression during the kid's prenatal environment and puberty. It seems like high consumption of dairy milk during puberty cou…

I worry that caffeine kills my appetite and I'm a skinny guy trying to gain weight. I like the rush that caffeine gives me, and it makes me productive otherwise, but I just wish there were some way around it.

So, you could theoretically get "better" at talking to women without ever talking to them, but by fighting in a combat zone or putting yourself into similarly stressful situations?

Well, it's interesting: I started out really strong. I started reading TRP about April of this year. From then till now, I got a 4.0 in my spring semester of college, I pushed myself to get a summer job, I pushed myself to get a vied-after lab position at school for this fall semester, I upgraded my wardrobe, I began lifting and gained about 10 pounds of muscle and a lot more definition. But I still feel bitter, and like a failure, and ultimately unhappy. I haven't really done any cold approache…

This is going to sound dumb, but where is a good place to learn "manly" skills? /r/becomeaman seems to have gone inactive. :(

So it's mostly found in green teas? Is there a way to take it just straight up?

So some 10% of RPers polled are in support of monarchy/dictatorship? Lol. I feel like the religion poll is telling, but that the political poll might be less representative of reality (i.e. people took the piss).

Holy shit, I made a long post about this last night, and it got deleted or went to spam or something annoying, but I hope you don't mind if I piggy-back your post to talk about it here. I just got back to my college town and was hanging out at my buddies (very low key) a few nights back. One of the guy's girlfriends comes over and brings her friends. One of them is very petite, attractive, social, loud and [attempting to be--with some success] cute. They were all a little tipsy. I was playing vi…

Sounds like The Taming of the Shrew. Tell me I'm not the only one who's read that story.

I understand where you're coming from of course, but I wonder what advice would you give to someone who's afraid of doing something for having never done it before? How can someone temporarily numb their pride and put themselves out there to try something new, even when failure is a distinct possibility?

The only thing that I don't understand, is that when it comes to getting/keeping a job, everybody wants to see those pearly whites, and they want you to be supplicative in the "what can I do for you?" sense. But TRP tells us to avoid showing any real emotion (positive or negative) and to "smirk" instead. So, is it just the difference between dealing with men vs. women, or what am I missing here?

Is it bad that I almost never want to? I'm not mopey, but I've been told I look "serious" most of the time.

If the manosphere (on a personal note, I don't like the ring of that word) is flooded with the writings of beta male geeks with no game, who talk a tough game about no-marriage but buckle when a groupie shows them some love, what hope of legitimacy can it hope to have? I mean, look at what happened to /r/seduction, really... I think being a 'manosphere' man without paying any attention to game would lead someone to develop a seething hatred--one that stems from being unable to adapt to the world…

Admittedly, I haven't done very many approaches since I started this thing, but for all the work I have put into it, a part of me has become angry. I'm a university student and this summer I've gotten a job in the service industry to make a little extra money. Every day I come home angry and burnt out from dealing with people. So I go lift, I'm still angry. Another thing I've realized is that I really haven't cultivated any friendships with men or women, and perhaps the more alarming issue is th…

For me, it's always been a matter of factoring in "relaxation time" into my daily schedule. And then I have to be able to catch myself when relaxation time becomes wasting time, and cut that shit out. Good list though, and you're right that it's all about balance. Everyone wants to be a producer and not a consumer, but one requires a great deal more work.

I remember seeing it said on this sub that "depression" as it is so often defined in America is often just the result of an intelligent man who's thinking too much, and not doing enough. I think, in my case, it turned out to be true.

Ha! I got in a little tussle once, back in eighth grade, two Catholic schoolboys on the playground. Nothing too serious, but there was blood, and suspensions. Thinking back, it makes me laugh. I remember it feeling very visceral, as if time had stopped for the duration of the fight, and only started up again when we were getting pulled away from each other by the teachers. Very few things can recreate that feeling, in my experience--lifting doesn't, some contact sports may come close. Honestly, …

Hmm, looks like I'm a little late to the party, but anyway, my question is like this: I'm a skinny guy. I ran distance in high-school and was actually pretty accomplished, but I ended up with a 5'10'', 130lb frame. Over the past 6ish months, I've been lifting, mostly doing arms, shoulders and chest because that's the most obvious stuff I needed to work on. I've gotten significantly more toned and I'm developing a nice V-shape torso, but I still feel very small and I've only gained 5 pounds. What…

That host is cynicism personified, and I love it! I'm so damn glad I stopped watching TV regularly a year ago. Now it's basically just sports broadcasting or occasionally an action flick if it's on. Don't really turn it on otherwise. Although, now I feel like I have one less thing to talk about with people.

I agree with you 100%. Speaking as a member of the community, I grow tired of the /r/relationships posts and "example" links to other subs. #1. They apparently get us in trouble. #2. They don't tell anyone who's read the sidebar or been here for a while anything new. I'd like to see more FRs, blogposts, videos and even just quality discussion posts. I agree with you about finding your passion. We're one among the first few generations to grow up without "real" problems, and we've been raised on …

I am not. Greek Life isn't particularly big at my school (less than 10% participation). My dad (who is relatively 'alpha') was in a fraternity and he actually advised against it for me. He said the humiliation isn't really worth it, and while he definitely appreciated the social aspect, he could've gotten it elsewhere. In my case, I feel confident enough in myself that I could achieve the network and success that I want without a fraternity. I'm also a premed, so I can't afford the time commitme…

Young girls are attracted to an older guys experience. As a 20 year old, I know... All you older RPers are making it very difficult for the little guys. :P

Very Carnegie-esque. Make people feel useful, not pined-after, and they will endear themselves to you.

Honestly, I'm not the biggest fan of Fey either, but the show itself is funny. Baldwin and Morgan really make the show for me.

I feel ya. I couldn't see myself taking out the debt described in your earlier post without doing ROTC. Then again, I feel like NYU is probably a premier med school among those in the US. There's always the option of DO schools or even Bahaman schools if you're really desperate. Like I said though, I think entrepreneurship is the endgame for the RP man. I think deep down, every man wants to be the captain of his own ship, it's just a matter of acquiring the capital (and probably the network) to …

Speaking as a young premed, if I'm fortunate enough to get accepted to med school, I may go the ROTC route. They pay for your med school on a per year basis in exchange for military service after your schooling's done. It makes sense given I'm tentatively planning on trauma surgery, and I'm not settling down until age 35 anyway. Also, it's a life experience, y'know? I will agree that medicine, law, and engineering are not and will not be as good as they once were, though they're still among the …

My problem is that I spent years working to be "fit" and to be a good long-distance runner, and I was pretty accomplished. Now I have almost no body fat, but I weigh 130 pounds. :|

Well, a few small things spring to mind: I finally acquired a summer job. It's minimum wage (plus tips), but it's good hours and it should give me enough cash to build a new pc (a splurge that doubles as a hobby/learning exp) and to live off-campus in my college town over next summer, so I don't have to come home and live with mom and pop. : I won tickets to an event, and was initially going to bail, but I ended up inviting some bros from HS, all of whom hadn't seen each other in a while, and it…

Interesting, as a younger guy (20), TRP has been made easier to follow by the fact that I am just so naturally cynical, I suppose, but it's definitely not easy. I'm ashamed to admit I've had almost no social/sexual interaction with women. There wasn't any one girl I pined for that I was never able to get. Fortunately or unfortunately, in some ways, TRP confirmed what I already suspected. It's liberating and a bit disappointing to hear that I'll be "most attractive" only after years of school and…

/r/niggers got banned because people were inciting violence in the wake of the trayvon martin ruling. It's foolish to think it was anything else. As much as I don't think anything TRP is doing currently is against the rules, or that anything with regards to, for example, the kickstarter debacle, was in the wrong, TRP needs to be more about debating and informing (yes, free of censure) and not a circle jerk about how much women suck. It needs to be reiterated that TRP doesn't hate women. We very …

Non-participation links mean that you can't upvote or downvote (and maybe can't even comment upon) anything in the link. The link looks like a normal reddit link but has an "np" in it. Vote brigrading happens when someone doesn't use an np link, links to another post, and the subsequent visitors from another sub either upvote or downvote the thread/comments to the point that everything gets fucked up, and the actual opinions of the people in the sub are not heard. We're not supposed to be doing …

Make no mistake, women think power is sexy. Intelligence is nothing in a vaccuum, but it can be used to accrue power (through wealth, through ingenuity, through one becoming well-respected or irreplaceable in their chosen discipline).

How tall is tall? And how short is short? I read in some study that women prefer men that are approx. 5 inches taller than they are. I'm 5'10'' or so, which is apparently about average height for a man, I think. According to wikipedia, the average black American man is slightly shorter than the average white American man, and the average Mexican american man is about 3 inches shorter than either. 5'10'' isn't exactly tall but it's big enough that I'm taller than most women. I think most women wa…

I made a post a few days ago (see my comment history) asking older guys what kind of advice they might give to younger (~20) guys. Since you seem to fit the bill, I'd be interested in hearing any gems you might be able to offer to a college kid.

With regards to your first point, I guess I was more looking for what some older members of the community who are at or getting close to the height of their smv might advise younger guys to doin order to get to that point. I guess I'm trying to say I'd feel shitty if I didn't graduate without a few stories to tell, but at the same time, I'm trying to be career-focused so that my 30-year-old self thanks me. With regards to your second point. Yeah, I'm an idiot for not getting myself out there soo…
