You can try. I'd laugh at you then keep doing whatever I was doing anyway. Or you can take some of the good advice you've been given and recognize positive reinforcement and change for the sake of change are not part of the same package.

You're pretty years are going to run out sweetie. The years after that are bitter and terrible. You're either going to cut the crap and settle on one of your options, or you're going to choose to keep trying options after the options are exhausted. Not making a choice is the same as making one. Choose.

Good job son. You can't do anything about random people, but the people in your life dispensing some TRP I tend to think of it like volunteer or service work. Not all of them will get it, but that's on them.

It's because it's not about them. Being a housewife is about being of service to those that you love. Hard to get that past someone raised on I.I.I. Me.Me.Me. I. Me.

Can guys participate too? "In 20 years, you will have an immense sense of gratitude that you can point to the girl who is next to you now, look at your daughter, and say: 'grow up and be like your mother.'" My wife can do the same with our son. It would be difficult to overstate just how much that means to both of us. I know marriage gets crapped on a lot over on TRP and I don't blame any guy for doing that, but a solid marriage to a RP girl and raising little versions of yourselves with her is …

We're going to get a ton of mileage out of that article here, the fact that this woman continues to write is astounding. Dear Girls: the quality of the writing doesn't reflect the quality of the ideas. See also: Lori Gottleib.

Son, I've been with the same woman for 20 years and it's never ever been boring. Reason? I have a fulfilling life outside of her that would continue independent of her, she knows it, so she makes my life more interesting and fun. The problem isn't the girl or the relationship. The problem is you. It's always you.

You do the same thing you'd do with any other woman were they doing this shit: kick em' the fuck out of your life and your other friends lives. I'm an old guy but I had "friends" like this back in college. They're essentially orbiters, hanging around picking up your scraps. All true, and good stuff. At first this stuff is hard to notice unless you see yourself on tape or hear yourself on a recording. After doing some public speaking and seeing myself on tape I started to notice this type of thing in day to day interactions and correct it on the spot. A short pause before speaking is vastly preferable to an aahhhh or ummm. Like everything else on this sub, practice is key. Nailed it. My wife still looks good for her age but sags are here and there that she can't control. The kids did some shit to her body that won't ever be fixed without surgery. I'm still plowing her like a Nebraska cornfield. We've been together forever and I genuinely love her and my children. We'll get old together the way my grandparents did. I've seen it a lot for what it's worth. It depends heavily on the position and disposition of the kids. I'm not talking 60 hour a week career type stuff, but the challenge of work can be rewarding for anyone once the responsibility and difficulty of the early years and tween age starts to slow down.

It's hard to hide the glut of unhappy, unmarried, late 30's career oriented cat ladies that are miserable. At this point everybody knows a few. You'll notice she still emphasized having a career. Just later. It keeps the components of the old message and changes the order so as to meet with the least resistance. It's a step in the right direction but it's only air being let out of the bubble, not it completely being popped. I love that we get to watch this happen real time.

And naturally all the screaming is from people who are precisely in the demographic you describe. The first rule of evaluating anything in modern media is this: "What does the commentor or author want to be true?"

It's helpful that you know how to define yourself, but that doesn't change the behavior. If there's anything this sub is good at, it's encouraging change. It sound like you could use some given the circumstances. A quality man wouldn't even think about doing some of the things you describe your husband as pushing on and doing to you, and that's a mild way of putting it. Sorry, I'm new to reddit but you are correct. :) I apologize if my reply was out of order. Here's the problem with what you're suggesting: BPD (that's a guess, not a diagnosis) girls fear abandonment beyond all else. Telling her to abandon her SO isn't going to work, as it brings to the surface the one thing she fears above everything else. The only thing she can do is make the decision to change her perspective and actions, in which case she will change her identity which is necessary to her ef…

If any or all of the above are true, you're not just dealing with a man who isn't quality; you're dealing with a pathological narcissist and I'm going to guess you're somewhere along the BPD spectrum. Nobody can help you but you, but it is possible to go beyond where you are to somewhere happy. Seen it before; not much, but not never. If you're up for Asian style steak, this is great and uses cheap cuts: *1 cup of soy sauce *1 12oz bottle of beer (Lager works best) *6-10 Garlic cloves. Smash them with the side of a knife *Tri-Tip Beef. 2-4 pounds. (it depends heavily on the container you use, as long as it's all covered you're good) Marinate it for a minimum of two hours at room temperature, if overnight put it in the fridge. Is she someone you would never find attractive and she would never find you attractive? Then nothing. If either party finds anything attractive about the other and it's not reciprocated, you're just going to make the person unhappy because they'll hold out hope that maybe, just maybe, something might happen someday. If it's the guy who feels something that the girl doesn't return, this is Beta Orbiter-ville; population: you.

Many find alcoholism later in life. It's not a choice or a question of warped morals or lack of judgement in many cases. For quite a few it happens like this: you're able to drink like a normal person then at some point, it's like a switch gets flipped and the ability to stop once you start has completely dissolved. This didn't happen for me till late 30's, and by that time I'd already been with the wife for 15 years. I'd say don't get involved with someone who is an alcoholic if up front you ca…

It might help the new guys with stories of hope about how it is possible to do it right, and specific examples of fatherhood. Maybe testimonials from happy fathers/married guys. Again, this is going on in your head without your consent. I'd go into describing the mental gymnastics your mind is using to sabotage you but that'd take a common ground we may not have and probably 10,000 words of text. This is the key thing: take an action, any action, that is new. Learn and do anything new. Go to bed reviewing what you learned or what you did new. When their fathers let them get away with it for the first 14 years of their life instead of acting like men and telling them to cut the crap (or they didn't have a father around in the first place). We're dealing with the repercussions of 50 years of particularly bad parenting.

They're just as visual because we've all been raised to be just as visual. It props up the system to see something and want it then get it. Envy has low fixed costs and great margins. It's the same cognitive process that drives advertising, and now they're going to have to re-write all the evo-psyche textbooks if they haven't already to reflect the fact that women are now the primary consumers and consumables.

Just talked to him last night after starting this. Here's a nice example of girl game: Went on a blind date setup by a friend. Girl isn't super cute, but funny, engaging, and pleasant. Clearly works out and takes care of herself as her body looks "amazing". She would be super fun to hang out with. He wants to go out dancing with her as she's into that as is he. Second dates are rare with him. This is interesting.

My wife and I are like your parents. There's two routes I've seen that seem to work for men: 1) marry someone in your 20's and build a life together (me and your dad) 2) What my buddy has to do. He's completely done with school/residency/fellowships and is finally making real money. He does do the sort of guest speaker stuff you're talking about but has been a knucklehead and doesn't actively try to socialize that much afterwards. That's something I've brought up. :)

I really like this. The crafts angle demonstrates three things: 1) she's willing to put in some work on something 2) has skill, and 3) since she's selling stuff she's confident enough in herself to put her work out there.

Volunteer events is something neither of us had considered, thanks! The looks thing isn't a huge issue anymore as he's figured that part out. It's true in trades as well. Doesn't matter what parts you're packing, you can weld or you can't; you can do the detail work or you can't; you can do the heavy stuff or you can't; you're willing to do it or you aren't. Skill is the worlds best equalizer besides money, yet you don't hear that sort of sentiment promoted much. Sad really.

"IF-" by Rudyard Kipling. The whole damn thing, but I particularly like the last 4 lines and should resonate here: If you can fill the unforgiving minute With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run, Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it, And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!

That's one for RPW. Mine was intelligent, warm, and friendly before kids - she just didn't gush over other people's babies. The kind of girls who don't put their kids first and recognize them as individuals that I've met are also the ones in "I'm not haaaappy divorces". None of the ones I know personally would pass the above list to begin with.

If you're in a Marriage or LTR and do not express some supportive and loving characteristics during a legitimate tragedy you're not only not a good partner you're an awful human being. Death, failure where it damages the future of the other, physical injury, accidents, etc. You can be loving in these situations without being a doormat. Cancer happens. Loved ones die. Welders make good money and we can't train them fast enough. Friends of mine have to import them for jobs on contracts. They'd rather hire US dudes, but it sometimes isn't possible. First thing, is you're probably in the wrong place unless by University you mean "technical college". Pipe fitting, welding, electrical, etc. It isn't comfortable work and you're going to pick up scars, but it pays and you feel great at the end of a long day.

Hit trade school first, but afterwards part of his site is dedicated to putting grads into those jobs. You can also apply for a scholarship on his site and do the ed for free.

It's really not that hard once you understand the principals. MIG welding isn't any harder than using a hot glue gun. Then if you want to really go balls out, learn to scuba dive. Underwater welders have buckets of cash thrown at them.

You're here, so probably for you it is. The Beta Bux runs strong in my neighborhood. Watching it up close is a constant exercise controlling outward signs of disgust.

I'd argue that if you maintain frame and lead, the rest is easy. Unless you find a woman who will invest the time into your happiness and the kids happiness it's not worth it to marry. That's what a lot of the stuff in RPW is about. It's not unthinkable that my wife would cheat, but it'd be pretty hard considering me and her children are her whole life and she finds it happy and fulfilling. She was never on the carousel. That helps too.

I’ve read rather a lot of comments, articles, etc. on the internet and in magazines that portray parenthood and fatherhood in a negative light. I have been to enough PTA related events to have heard similar gripes from guys, and been in enough meetings with business associates who relentlessly bitch about their kids to see the common connection. It’s probably obvious what the common connection between all the unhappy fathers I’ve met and read in print is. They’re all Beta’s. 8 Rules to happy fat…

You've gotten all the advice you need dear, but I'll play pile on from an RPM perspective: If he isn't "breaking you off" now, what about: -After you have the kid you made together and still have some stubborn belly fat -As you begin to age a bit and lines show -As you begin to gray a little -If you aren't necessarily looking your best that day but still want it If he really wants you he'd be tossing you up against a wall and having his way with you every chance you gave him. Been with the same …

Sure, if you're a Beta' that's always at the whims of your wife you're probably miserable. Alpha husbandry and fatherhood is awesome.
