Men's beliefs about women are informed by what the men around them believe about women. In the FDS podcast episode with Lundy Bancroft, he says the women in a man's life are not responsible for how he behaves around women, because he models his behaviour on the men in his life. It's not your fault. There's literally nothing you could have done because men will always identify with other men, even if they claim to love you very much you're still just a woman to them.

The details are different, but I had this experience also. My boyfriend in uni was just like this. It's so eerie, reading someone else describing your exact situation, but with just the details changed. When I went through what you've just gone through, it really fucked me up. This happened about 20 years ago and it took me longer to get to the same realization that you are having. I'm so happy for you that you are free from this absolute parasite and that you've found FDS. If I had access to th…

That's always been my experience. The guys I ended up with remained aware of their inadequacies... and they took it out on me with varying levels and flavours of overt and covert abuse. Men fucking hate it when you are better than they are. At ANYTHING.

You're definitely right. Fascism is political Patriarchy. Always at the very core of fascist ideologies is defense of the 'traditional family'. Fascist ideologies vary greatly but they are always misogynistic and have the goal of the complete subjugation of women.

It's amazing how talented men are at denying the truth that is right before their eyes. Women communicate their needs ad nauseum to men. Men do not like the version of reality that women communicate, therefore it doesn't count. Men are constantly looking for the answer that gives him what he wants. World without end.

It's amazing how much your experience is resonating with me. I too was a naturally rebellious child though thankfully my neither of my parents (for all their other faults) ever pressured me in that way. I still fell victim though... I think some people underestimate the huge power that media and environment have... if all your friends, teachers, coworkers, etc. are surrounded by the same rotten, women-hating culture and everyone is marinated in women-hating media... it's hard to not turn into a …

Wow, I've never thought about it like that. I think that all negative stereotypes about women are lies and mens' projections of their own faults on us, but even accepting the truth of the 'superficial' label for women still leaves the vast chasm between using material goods for bolstering status or using actual human beings as objects and tools. Most men are cowards. It's rare that there is a man who has half the bravery of the average woman that I know.

I used to feel so bad for the homeless dudes I'd see on the street. No longer. This sub has been amazing for me, I no longer have any sympathy for the men on the street, at all. I get really angry sometimes, because they have the fucking privilege to live on the streets as an option. Anytime I see a woman on the street asking for money I always give what I can, 5-20 quid, because I'm afraid for those women, I never usually see them more than a few times. I worry that they're dead or trafficked o…

I have a small dog and I live on my own in a big city and the amount of peace of mind that having him around gives me is amazing. He's a shelter dog who hates strangers (men especially), and even though he's only 12 lbs and not a rottweiler he still protects me. Men don't get a chance to harass me when I'm outside because he barks like crazy and doesn't stop. The peace of mind comes from knowing with certainty that while he is around, nobody can ever sneak up on me. Not when we're walking togeth…

Exactly so! It has to do with the structure of the brain. Words are abstract symbols that signify meaning, and are processed in the brain in a different place than information the brain receives visually. I can't remember the specifics but basically because survival is contingent on the brain interpreting it's surroundings in a way that ensures survival, the things we see and hear have to be true. Or we'd get eaten by a lion or something.

Thanks for sharing this article, and for your insight. I am one of those creative types who is working on exactly this. Images are powerful and have never been more ubiquitous and the consequences are dire. Most people don't understand images; Gail Dines even says that the human mind has defense against the eloquence of the word, but the human mind has no defense against the glamour of the image. We see the image and our brain interprets it as truth, even if we consciously are aware of its false…
