In addition, if you are wearing glasses, when you open a set and introduce yourself, take your glasses off and make eye contact. Again, be sure not to look away before she does. Same goes for your hat. She will notice.

Saw an hb8 sitting alone in one of the only tables in the shade between classes. Asked if I could sit and eat if I 'promise not to disturb [her] while [she] reads.' I sit, eat my food, dawdle, and finally she opens me. Turns out we have German together in the fall. Bumped into her again half an hour ago and closed with her number.

Your response encompasses exactly what was going through my mind. Game theory has opened my eyes to a different school of thought, and, being able to see the logic, and reason through my actions, justifying them as means to attain a goal, I have no problem following the guidelines. If I disagree with the reasoning, or it doesn't align with my moral code, I have no problem ignoring parts. Like any school of thought, I take what I like and leave what I don't.

I believe the correct decision here is to use the tu form. Most native speakers will respond with a slight confusion if you are on the same social status as they are and you keep addressing them with vous. Tu shows you are more outcome independent and demonstrates higher value, whereas with vous you have already given your target the upper hand. You could even make it a game. Make her qualify herself to be your Vous. Start with something like "I don't know if I should be calling you tu or vous, …

I used to have my phone out ALL the time. I realized it pulls me out of social situations. I can't count how many conversations I've missed just this week because I fall into my phone. Put it away. Put it on silent. That way, when she pulls her phone out, you can tell her to put it away and DHV ("Don't waste my time on your phone"). Be in the moment!
