I would like to add that taking better care of yourself helps immensely with having more self-respect. Start working out. Buy some weights, and do some simple exercises. Just dont set the bar too high too early. I dont know much about your physical fitness or body size so start with as much reps as you can do to test the waters. I would add that getting a power planer should be second on the list of powered tools. Right after a drill. Hand planing is hard work. Especially if you dont have a carpentry workbench to hold the board in place properly. And the blades will constantly need to be kept sharp as well. So invest in a good set of whetstones.
