Health. Low impact aerobics. Issues around attachment styles, love languages. Many men were totally taken by suprise. So lots of advice about maintaining open, heartfelt lines of communication for next time. The value of charity work and getting out of your own head. Dating app how-tos. Book recommendations.

Sex after 60 is real and it’s fantastic! Get out there, champ. Cialis is your friend!

Maintain a reasonable BMI. Have a good job with health insurance. Cultivate two interests or hobbies outside of work. Thats it. Do those things and you will have all the dates you want. Love will come.

At the very least, you need to go through a period if true separation (find your own place) without an AP to fall back on. Spend the time on your own. Work on your stuff. Then and only then should you consider working together on your current marriage. You’re too close to the situation. Find some distance to think about what YOU want.

Plan for worst case like having to file legal motions later to force payments. Make legal fees for such an event her responsibility.

I can’t imagine living in the same house for one second after that first “drop the bomb” conversation. No way. I’m gonna be outta there! How do you guys do it?

Absolutely agree. Too much advice in this sub says “stay and make it work.” F that!

Sounds reasonable though. I’d be thrilled with that result.

This is great advice, thanks! I like the idea of that extra 5% in the split.

Yeah, how I say it is what’s giving me anxiety. She’ll pretend to be shocked and hurt but she’s been a controlling narcissist and in big denial for years. She’s also the vindicitive type. It’s not gonna to be fun.

Can I assume that if my wife does not want to split and will resist it, then mediation probably isn’t an option?

Scoot? Please elaborate. Move out? Change checking accounts? Go no contact?

I appreciate your insight, thank you. I hear “try and save the marriage” quite a bit in this sub and in many situations thats an unfortunate reality but I’ve been doing that for 20 years and I want a little joy in the time I have left. My wife thinks the bare minimum is just fine, but I no longer do. It sucks that I’ll end up broke but the kids are grown and they’ll do fine. It just doesn’t seem worth the emotional and physical cost to me anymore.

I give her backrubs, hugs, small kisses. But the initiation of anything heavier broke down between us (both) years ago. I never claimed it was all her problem. I have no desire for her either.

I want to thank each and every one who responded. This is very clarifying for me. Your collective advice is similar to the direction I was headed. Divorce puts too much at stake at this late stage of the game. Work on my happiness and be direct with her about what I need. Packing a bag and just saying “Adios, I’m going on a solo trip!” made we chuckle. Like THAT would actually fly in my household. It would not. But I see the underlying point of “live your life.” Great advice. Don’t wallow. Where…

I almost wish she would cheat. At least I’d know there was a sex drive in there someplace.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
