I am in GA too but I got saved from alimony. In a weird cosmic way, I spent 7 years of my 12 year marriage supporting her getting her education so that she can have a great career. But there is no set definition. Your lawyer should be able to tell you what judges normally do but I heard from my lawyer that if your wife is able to work then it’s usually 1 year of alimony for every 3. But if she has a degree and can find work it might be less. Also I am in Fulton county. Best bet, try and save the marriage for now.

If you are close to retirement, look to take your money and scoot without filing for divorce. This is perfectly legal and the simple act of going to another state greatly complicates efforts

In my experience it is dependent on the choice of the attorney and the parties' ability to collaborate or not. 50/50 is common but a huge gab exists from what I have seen in the court documents. Make sure that you have all the details in the final documents, no gray areas. Go to the extreme with that. Little forgotten peaces of the agreement can cost a lot of money and peace of mind when back in the legal system.
