How about "It's almost impossible to keep in touch with every single person, every day, and still maintain quality relationships. I don't think it would be fair to you. " That's not kind or unkind. Cuz you gotta push ppl away but don't shove. There are ways to word this even more gently but I don't believe in feeble nudges either.
