In Canada, it's legal to sell sex, but illegal to publicly solicit a prostitute, run a brothel, or live of[f] the proceeds of prostitution (i.e. be hired as a bodyguard or driver by a prostitute or brothel). Not as seemingly stupid as what you stated, but making prostitution more dangerous than it needs to be.

Every time a man uses pornography, beats his wife or coerces a woman or dismisses or laughs at her, Some of these are not like the others.

In fact this is a situation which feminists have been equally eager to critique. If feminists in general were as eager to critique as MRA's, then wouldn't there be an equal amount of bomb-threats against courthouses coming from them?

Nor am I suggesting that “man flu” is an idea which wicked feminists dreamed up in order to mock men. (Apart from anything else, you hear the term used by both men and women.) Are men unable to be feminists or am I missing something? The distinguishing feature that should be [us]ed (by the usage of the term being discussed) should be ideological lines, not gender lines.

If we admit there are structural barriers to entry, and a culture that actively discourages and women and men of color from participating, then it logically follows that technology is not a meritocracy. And this threatens many dearly held beliefs of technology workers It would only threaten those beliefs if you offered up any sort of evidence for the antecedent you've provided in your if-then statement.

Feminists rallied to her defense, painting the case as that of an aging woman being pushed aside by her lover in favor of a younger woman. The prosecution and her critics said it was a case of jealousy They're agreeing on what exactly happened. Woman finds out that her SO is seeing another person. Woman gets jealous. Woman kills SO. The only disagreement between them is if jealous[y] is an actual defense for homicide.

The mixed feelings about addressing men’s issues tend to stem from the fact that “men’s issues” tends to be the default in our society. We’re a male dominant society. Then why hasn't society at least attempted to solve men's issues?

today's MRAs ... are chiefly concerned with one thing, and one thing only: Putting feminists in their place. Which is in the kitchen at best and in the ground at worst, if you ask these unapologetically misogynistic bags of rot. That is a massive strawman that she created there.

If means of production are only allowed to be collectively owned, then it follows that all of these things must be confiscated from individuals. How exactly do you plan to do this withough a massive coercive state? Influence market forces (through use of tax breaks, government loans, etc.) to increase the number of worker cooperatives until they're the only business entities in the country and when that is achieved, ban the formation of corporations and the like.
/r/MensRights11/12/12 06:15 PM

confiscate the means of production from the people who created them But the majority of those who currently own the means of production (shareholders of corporations, etc) didn't actually create/build said means of productions. forcefully limit the conditions under which they can be traded or sold I'm okay with this (depending on what the actual limits we are talking about).

Earning. I wouldn't agree that trust-fund kids and executives (who get millions (if not billions) just for their management skills) are actually earning that money. First off, my desired state of affairs is that all corporations (and similar business entities) are replaced with worker cooperatives and a flatter tax rate. Secondly, until said state of affairs come about, a progressive tax rate helps pay for needed services (healthcare, for example) that the workers might not be able to afford with what their employers pay them.

"Prostitution is a form of violence,... First off, how is it a form of violence? Second, the risk of violence is going to be reduced if legalized. ...an obstacle to gender equality... How is [increas]ing a woman's choice on how to live her life an obstacle? and an open door for organised crime to develop," Legalization would destroy organized crime's monopoly on prostitution which would reduce the amount of organized crime (through loss of revenue).

but would it be safe to say both men and women are plagued by deficiencies in both the current standard legal, and social constructs within which we live? I consider myself an egalitarian. The reasons I prefer the MRM over feminism (to a slight degree) are that the issues that the MRM talk about (and advocate against) are mostly about the legal system (while those that feminism talks about are mostly social) and that feminism currently dominates the academia surrounding the gender debate.

Mary Daly is an example of a radical feminist who wants to subjugate men. One of the most problematic aspects of the fourth wave has become the amount of time and energy devoted to blokes. Can they be feminists? Should we be nicer to them so that they will be feminists? Men: what can they teach us about feminism? It’s this sort of rubbish that leads to people saying things like “I call myself a gender equalist”. The theory in itself isn't really wrong. The theory is vague enough that it is (currently) not falsifiable, which means it has to be thrown out and kept out until it is falsifiable. Do you think filling in the blanks could be a stepping stone to a better discourse between the movements? If by 'fill in the blanks', you mean make it into a falsifiable theory, then yes, it would lead to better discourse.

My best guess as to why the movement is conservative on the whole is that feminist groups tended to ally with left leaning groups and since the MRM wanted to oppose feminism, it drifted towards the right. The MRM's goal (in general, I think) is equality between the genders and it mainly does that by fighting the discrimination of men. I think that equality under the law would be good enough since it would be nearly impossible to end all discrimination against men.

Only if I give a fuck If you don't give a fuck, why the fuck are you arguing? it's not an ARGUMENT, it's a contention. The definition of contention: a point advanced or maintained in a debate or argument. It still requires (better) evidence.

why the fuck should I have to prove it to anyone? You are the one making the assertions and the burden of proof is on the person making the assertions. If it looks, smells, acts, talks, and feels like a feminist You have to back up this statement with evidence in order for it to be considered true. And the only evidence you've provided is a post that you referred to but haven't linked to. how about paying attention to the thrust of someone's 'argument'? A person's argument has to be backed up by…

consensus on the meaning must be reached first. I'm not opposed to changing my definition if my opponent (in a debate) can provide a better definition and present a good arguement for it. When you don't take men into account at all, except as opponent, Where have I shown this? for example, you tend to ignore everything that doesn't confirm your belief that MEN OWE YOU...clearer now? First of all, where have I exhibited this tendency to ignore evidence and [following] that belief? Secondly, I am …

What if they define 'equality' to mean as long as you still have something they want, you have to give it up? If they don't want the same rights and opportunities for everyone (as humanly possible), then they do not actually want equality.

You can argue semantics all you want...but then, if you have to argue semantics to classify yourself as 'the good kind' of something, you're not really interested in anything but justifying your own biases. Where have I ever said that I was a feminist? I'm not going to argue over semantics but if a person actually wants equality then I have nothing against that person, no matter what political ideology he/she subscribes to. Edit: small grammar mistake.

First of all, Feminism is a broad group of philosophies/ideologies whose defining trait is that it says women are currently being unjustly oppressed. Secondly, not all Feminist groups are man hating. Many of the radical/extreme groups? Yes. The whole movement? No.

Do you believe that men and woman face an equal amount of sexual assault and domestic violence? I think that they each face a roughly equal amount. I would need statistics published in peer-reviewed journals in the last two years to say who faces more. No I do not but I do think he should have an opt-out option available to him and only available i…

If the MRM starts portraying men as oppressed [in most (if not all) situations], then the MRM will become another feminism. It'll start saying that there can't be sexism against women, misogyny isn't real and all male oppression is do to "Matriarchy".

Feminists are, by definition, educated women. I don't remember reading that in the dictionary. I would've been [fine] if she just left it at 'likely to be educated'. Also, she left out male feminists because they're male.

VAWA is an example of a law that is sexist against men since it doesn't recognize that non-reciprocal DV is evenly split between the genders. The child custody laws in many jurisdictions are biased in favour of the mother (main thing is that the default setting is the mother). [3. Conscription laws usually don't include women except for a few countries.]

All I'm saying is that there shouldn't be any major legal and/or social repercussions to those who make and watch porn. What I mean by major is no bans or boycotts or anything like that. Also, by anti-porn, do you mean like make porn illegal or simply don't watch it?

The main reason that there is anti-feminism in this subreddit is that the majority [...] of the legislation that feminist lobbyists have managed to pass has not proven to be equal. I'm [primarily] thinking about VAWA and child custody after a divorce (in America, the default setting is that the mother gets the kids).

I'm really far left when compared with Americans since I'm Canadian (the most conservative Canadian would probably be near the Democrats on the political spectrum) and I voted for the NDP in the last Canadian federal election and I'm a MRM-leaning gender egalitarian. The link in the passage that PostPatriarchalMan quoted goes to a paper that was published in a peer-reviewed journal in 2007. That means it is A) more reliable than Wikipedia and B) more relevant to the year 2012 than stats collected in 1997. Also, the insults are unnecessary.

How do you define feminism? I define feminism as a movement that advances the rights of women. I further split feminism between equity feminism and gender feminism with the first just wants some equality between the genders and the second trying to achieve female superiority. What is your opinion on rape culture? My opinion is that it doesn't exist. Rape is a crime that is committed by either a single individual or a small group and it punished with a prison sentence. In prison, rapists (and tho…

there seems to be a lot of misogyny here Each movement/organization has its share of crazies/radicals, just pointing that out. So why don't MRAs acknowledge that women are discriminated against too? For the most part we do (maybe except the aforementioned crazies) but in this subreddit in particular, we don't since it is about men's issues.
